Sad Dylana Jenson never became as critically acclaimed and famous as she could have been. She is a league better than most of today's undeservingly famous classical American violinists like Bell. This was perfect.

This performance is nothing short of drop dead amazing. I now have the Sibelius Violin Concerto as performed by two other very famous and renowned artists... Dylana's version best both of the other versions I have. I agree with "Dan"; this is perfect... What a great artist!

Mrs.Jenson was Milstein's pupil... Milstein never played live or recorded Sibelius Concerto. If you want to know how this Concerto could sound in Milstein's hands, probably Jenson's rendition is closer to that purpose. :)

Thank you very much for posting this incredible Recording. You are Genius of Violinplaying. You came to Moscow and all Peaple was shaked, wenn you played. I remember this Competition very well, even I was 6 Years old. You and Oliveira showed all Russians how to play Violin. Unforgettable!

I sure envy these musicians. I never could master reading music so when I took flute lessons and was in band people had to put the letters above the notes and my flute teacher wanted me to go into competition. No way. I gave up the flute a long time ago. Can play guitar a little. But to see these musicians who can read music, to see her play having memorized what she has to play is amazing to me. Some are just natural musicians.

Around a decade ago, having realised Sibelius was such a beautiful composer and the violin concerto a masterpiece, I carefully listened to many violinists to find my favourite. Your rendition bought tears to my eyes and I searched for a recording on CD. I seem to remember buying the last copy, at least at the time, from Amazon. Great care is taken of that CD, its one of my most precious in my collection. Now, oh bliss, your performance is on youtube. I clapped so hard at the end, my neighbours probably wonder what on earth is going on! Bravo! Magnificent. Many, many thanks.

Jane I have this CD too as this is my preferred performance of this concerto. However if you have a great turntable I heartily recommend the LP as it is even better than the CD.

I was right! I said when I saw her play with Jack Benny in their skit that when she grew up she’d be more an extraordinary violinist, just now discovering her as an adult playing and I was right! She is more extraordinary!

There's Norman Carol tuning the orchestra. Ormandy is gone but when he came to America, he started playing second violin in a theater orchestra in New York. What a wonderful performance this is!!! You were paid a great compliment when a critic wrote that this was the greatest playing of this concerto since the one by Heifetz. You are a great artist. The violin you are playing is the one by Samuel Z.?

May I ask, what is the date of this performance, what is the orchestra and who is the conductor?
@DavidJGillCA10 жыл бұрын
Wikipedia to the rescue... Of course, that is Ormandy on the podium so this is a performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the old Academy of Music. I'm guessing this concert was just prior to Ms. Jensen's Carnegie Hall debut in this music with the same orchestra on December 9, 1980. Who is Dylana Jenson? I had never heard of her, how great could she be? It seems she chose not to further pursue a grueling career as a soloist. Well, a few more details from wikipedia: "Music critic Edward Downes characterized her work as "unsurpassed since Heifetz." "In 1978 she shared the silver medal in the International Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow." "One critic, Harris Goldsmith of the New York Concert Review, said [of her 2005 return to Carnegie Hall that:] "... I can give no higher praise than to say that her excellent performance brought to mind, and was a loving tribute to, the great Nathan Milstein..."

Miss Jenson's RCA recording of this concerto with Ormandy and the PO, made around this time, is my very favorite of this concerto, even better than Heifetz in my opinion.
