Anakin's fall to the dark side is much more complex than it seems. The dude grew up as a slave which was only the start. When Qui Gon died, Anakin lost the father figure he needed. Obi Wan wasn't ready to train him and he wasn't what Anakin needed. The constant suppressing of emotions is also a big reason why his emotions explode every time something big happens. Like when his mother died. Even with this, Yoda knew of Anakin's pain and did nothing to help him. Anakin was also always treated differently than all the other Jedi. He was given the pressure of being the Chosen One and how important he was. But they also kept a short leash at all times. And then the fear of Padmé's death pushed him even further. Anakin was never truly freed from being a slave. He was a slave his entire life. First he was an actual slave. Then he became a slave to the Jedi. By the end of his time as a Jedi, he was also a slave to his emotions. Only for him to destroy the Jedi and become a slave to Palpatine. The only time Anakin was truly free was when Luke turned him back to the light side of the force

The story of Anakin is so sad... he was never really free, born a slave in Tatoinne, being raised as a tool and a soldier for the jedi (and getting his promotion to knight because of the war), and meanwhile we have Palpatine grooming him in the dark until Anakin doesn´t have anyone else to turn for help (isolating and turning him little by little against the jedi). The moment when he gains freedom is when he dies after saving his son and killing his abuser...

What’s even sadder is I’m pretty sure he’s only like 23 when he becomes Darth Vader and then dies by the time he’s 45. He spent the first ~quarter of his life as a fucking slave and then the last half a tortured horribly disfigured nugget cyborg twisted by hatred and evil. Shits fucking sad.

Oh my gosh I ADORE this video. I’m an avid Star Wars fan, so this was some of the best content for my soul. Your assessment of the Jedi was spot on. It’s one of the things I love about Star Wars is how the Jedi destroy themselves by forbidding attachment and emotion. Notice that in Episode 6 it’s Luke’s attachment to his father that saves everyone. If Anakin’s attachment and emotions had been encouraged, the whole Darth Vader turn would have been avoided and the Jedi would still be around. But their pride corrupted them and they were blind to a freakin Sith Lord in their very midst because they thought they were top dawg. It’s so tragic and so well done. Episode 3 is one of my favorite movies of all time🔥 Thanks for making this.

This may be because since he didn’t experience the films as they were coming out obviously just the prequels, therefore he’s not aware of all the memes and inside jokes of the said prequels and he didn’t have the “biased” of the hate those receive in general, that’s why his experience is pretty much inside a bubble of not knowing anything of anything and discovering things as the movies progressed. That is most certainly not the "superior take", it's the objectively incorrect take. His insight on the Jedis teachings were horrible. Jedi said no attachments, and Dylan thought that meant No emotion. No, the Jedi were not what inevitably sent Anakin on his path, Palpatines manipulation was. The Jedis lack of seeing to Anakins personal problems helped towards it, but was by no means the biggest contributor.

Bro, I love this so much. It was funny to see you just kinda throw Dooku out and forget about him as soon as he died. He doesn't have nearly as much of a role in the movies as in the Clone Wars show. Also, you are 100% correct when you were saying that Jar Jar was meant to play a bigger part in the movies. Idk if you have heard the Darth Jar Jar theory, but it makes so much sense, and it would have been awesome to see it happen. Also, in regards to the fight between Palpatine and the Jedi when they were trying to arrest him (and in basically every other lightsaber duel) the fight is meant to be happening much faster than we see. They did not portray that well at all in the movies, but basically Palpatine was moving so fast that even the Jedi masters couldn't react in time, but it just looked really dumb in the movie. In the novel of Revenge of the Sith, I am pretty sure it is said that when Obi-Wan is fighting Grevious, the fight is happening so fast that Obi-Wan was actually blocking 20 attacks per second from Grevious, but again, not well portrayed in the movies. And, part of why Mace Windu was able to best Palpatine is because he uses a specific lightsaber form that is meant to counter the sith's way of fighting. The sith draw on their hatred and anger when they fight, but with Mace's saber form, he uses the emotions of his opponents to fuel his fighting, so drawing on the hatred of Palpatine made Mace be able to overpower him. The Star Wars storyline is so insanely in-depth, the movies are just scratching the surface, but they are definitely always fun to watch through (excluding movies 7, 8, and 9, but I would still check those ones out, they can be alright to watch for the first time. Fair warning though, they are pretty bad). I am very glad you ended up enjoying Star Wars!

Bro I love that Dylan recognizes and appreciates Hayden’s performance as Anakin. Because his performance was genuinely moving and had to carry a lot of weight considering the struggles with the writing, directing, and overall pacing of Anakin’s downfall. It fr baffles me that ppl thought and still think that Hayden’s acting was bad. Especially when it comes to the scene where he tells Padme about the Tusken village he slaughtered. You can really feel the weight of his emotions grappling with his actions and capacity for hatred of an innocent party. I also feel that he played Anakin’s frustration of losing his mother very well, bitter and resentful but then impulsively violent

3:33:05 you're actually right about this- Anakin didn't turn evil simply because "the prophecy said so". Anakin had abandoned everything he knew by the time he was 8 years old, and the one person who truly believed he could be trained died. His new "father figure" treated him more like a brother, and as such, he grew up with nobody who would truly listen to him. Jedi are told to not have any attachment, and most start so eary that they have no memory of attachment to hold onto. Anakin, on the other hand, remembers it clearly, and as such held a powerful feeling of loss that he couldn't do anything with. That's why he marries despite what he's been told, why he abandons his mission to visit his mom, and why, in the end, he becomes so power hungry- he needs that attachment as much as anyone else, and was never told of a healthy way to gain it. He's a broken character in a world that treats him more like a savior than a human. Obviously it's no excuse for who he turned into, but it didn't exactly come out of nowhere either.

This and also the ineptitude and hypocrisy of the Jedi order make anakin lose faith in them. Two of the biggest examples are when mace windu says that palpatine is too dangerous to be kept alive and when obi wan says only the sith deal in absolutes (which itself is an absolute statement). The Jedi also do not know how to deal with negative emotion at all. Yoda just keeps telling anakin to bury his emotion and learn to move on without actually giving any advice on how hes supposed to move on. Like you said, this causes anakin to not have the guidance that he needs

The reason that Anakin did turn was because it was in the prophecy. the prophecy was that "The Chosen One would destroy the sith and bring balance to the Force". From the prophecy Anakin did destroy the sith by killing Count Dooku and Darth maul. However, balance to the force would be both the light and the dark being equal. This was not the case, the jedi won the Clone Wars forcing the clone into the outer rim. Thus caused the light to have more power on the force, so the force in advance created Anakin to destroy both sides and bring equality to the force. The equality being only Obi-won, Yoda, Vader, and Sidious are left alive leaving the force balanced.

Vader never turned against the Emperor because he didn’t have a reason to. The Emperor told him that Padme was dead, so Vader assumed that their child died with her. That’s why he sounded surprised at the start of Empire when the Emperor tells him that Luke is the son of Anakin. It’s the reminder of Padme and the life he could have had that reignites the spark of good in him. That’s why he offers to overthrow the Emperor with Luke at the end of Empire; it’s the same thing he tried to do with Padme. And Luke responds in the same way she did, by rejecting him. anyways i could basically write a whole thesis about how Luke is his mother’s son, but that’s too much for a youtube comment. this video is everything to me and i can’t wait to watch it over and over again like i do with your LotR video. I love this. Absolutely loved it. You saw them all without any external influence. Most fans don't get the message of George Lucas' six movies, because they get influenced by all of the other authors and spin-offs with their different versions. But THIS is Star Wars. Some things you might have missed or asked: - The Jedi are basically buddhists, you are correct. It's an intersection between ascetism, stoicism, desert fathers, zen monks and samurai. - Luke was wrong to go after Leia and Han. He was the one who got hurt and had to be rescued by them at the end. They suffered but they didn't die, Yoda was right. - There's no luck in SW. The Force has a will and it orders the events of the universe. Mostly selfless individuals serve as a more pure channel for it, like kids, Jedi and yes, Jar Jar (no greed). - There's heavy post-production editing because there was a lot of footage and Lucas loves to improvise and create on the spot. Most people forget these are independent experimental films. - According to the choreograph, in a scale 1-10, most Jedi are 6 in competence. In Ep III Anakin and Dooku are 8, Yoda and Sidious are 9, Mace almost 9. Mace does win the fight to Sidious. - With the dark side Anakin gets to 9, but he's unstable. Obi Wan is not powerful, he's just disciplined, with effort he's on 8, but very stable, that's how he wins, he's the underdog. - Lucas never explained why the Sith have red sabers, he doesn't think that's important to explain, it's just to visual symbolism. - Authors in the Expanded Universe and the Disney Universe tend to say red lightsabers are not natural, either synthetic or corrupted. Meh who cares. - Padme went through a lot carrying twins, even being choked and falling pregnant, being broken-hearted. She just seemed fine because she was doing one last effort for her kids. - It can be theorized, that because she was carrying very powerful force-sensitive babies, she was using the force in some way and that's where that endurance came from. I honestly don't recommend watching anything else. The hexalogy is enough for people to keep on discovering details after 40 years. But I'm sure some fans WILL recommend 'Andor' (2022) and its movie sequel 'Rogue One' (2016). I wouldn't know WHERE to put cause the tone is too different from Lucas and Disney's style. The 2nd and last season of Andor is coming next year so you have time to think about it. There's some more important titles usually recommended: - CLONE WARS (2003): The first version. You should really, really start with it. It's just 2 hours long like a movie, it's a 2D animation from the creator of Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab. - 'The Force Unleashed' (2008): Lucas only ever produced this one videogame, it bridges the 2 trilogies. Avoid part II, Lucas wasn't involved and it barely has story. - 'THE Clone Wars' (2008): The second version. Boba Fett has some more story in it. It's a full show in CG. Lucas series finale is season 5. Season 6 is bonus episodes but great. - Disney's 'TCW Last season' (S7) (2020): Honestly for me this one is OPTIONAL These were unproduced eps that offered needed closure, but were altered and changed Lucas plans. - 'The Mandalorian' seasons 1&2 (2019): You can watch it as an epilogue for the whole saga. The series is kinda bland, but that 2nd season finale is perfect, Toy Story 3 perfect. As I said you don't need to watch anything else. Everything else is just Lucasfilm or Disney trying to exploit the brand and IP. With all honesty.

the inconsistencies with name pronunciations are because on set whenever asked how they were pronounced, george lucas was just like 'eh say it however you want' so thats why sometimes is lee-ah sometimes lay-ah sometimes hann sometimes haan

In the French dub, it's even worse, as the translation for most of the names is not the same in the first movie from the rest of the franchise. Some of those choices were really weird, like Han is called Ian. My favorite: Chewbacca is literally translated into Chiktaba (not sure how they spell it) for the entire IVth movie, and nicknamed Chico 💀

Probably wasn't on purpose, and definitely doesn't help for a films sake, but I think it's a pretty cool idea to have characters do this. Adds a sense of realism as people in real life get peoples names wrong all the time, especially a public figure head like Leia. Reminds me of how people say Rihanna a different bunch of ways.

I’ll never forgive the Original Trilogy for not diving into Leia as Vader’s daughter. It should’ve been a massive deal, even more so than Luke as his son. Leia: “Holy sh@t! The fact that you never really get to see what life was like under the Empire in the original trilogy is one reason I liked Rogue One so much. I don’t usually care for spin-offs but this one fleshed out and gave more meaning to the original story. Also, I absolutely think that the Jedi are at least partially responsible for Anakin’s turn to the dark side
