Eh, it's weird. Europop is like vanilla icecream with sprinkles. It's nothing but sugar, and although it's good, we've developed to like things that aren't. Like bourbon and cigarettes. Both of those things are objectively disgusting, but we're so tired of -just- sweet we desire the nuance and complexity of bitter, sour, and other generally negative tastes.

To prevent confusion between different "euro genres", I made this, Europop: origin date-1960s origin location-continental Europe characteristics-just normal pop music, just from Europe examples-"People Need Love" by ABBA, "Dancing in the Streets" by Boney M, "Take Me to Paradise" by Kelly Marie Eurodisco: origin date-early 1970s origin location-Central Europe characteristics-a combination of synth pop and American disco examples-"Spin Me Round" by Dead or Alive, "Love in Siberia" by Laban, "Felicidad" by Boney M Eurobeat: origin date-mid 1980s origin location-UK & Ireland characteristics-happy lyrics, ~170-180 BPM usually, sometimes electric guitar examples-"Maharaja Night" by Edo, "Speedy Speed Boy" by Mario Polo, "Running in the 90s" by Maurizio de Jorio Eurodance: origin date-late 1980s origin location-Central Europe characteristics-sounds like house music, usually in a minor key, sometimes a male rapper, rarely faster than 160 BPM examples-"Mr. Vain" by Culture Beat, "Rhythm is a Dancer" by Snap!, "No Limits" by 2 Unlimited

3:58 Sidechaining has been a thing roughly since the 50s and was in fact used in eurodance, though not for the same purposes. Some mild sidechaining compression was used for basses like in the Eiffel 65 example you showed, and a lot to create sequenced leads from pads/synths which didn't allow that, like the gated choir lead in "Nowhere land" by Clubhouse.

Eurobeat is descended from italo disco, and was very popular in japan throughout the 90's and into the early 2000's, it has more of an 80's disco-pop element than eurohouse or bubblegum dance, and is usually faster with emphasis on arpeggiated synth-brass melodies

Sad that so many people also hated the Vengaboys back in the day too, I actually liked them (no shame). 😂 Might have to dabble into Europop for fun.
