Dymo Comparison Organizer Xpress vs. The Dymo 1550.

Comparing the Dymo Organizer Xpress to the Dymo 1550. Older Dymo embossing labeler may be a better buy if you are interested in using it more than a few times. The Dymo 1550 was made for continuous use and much more robust than the newer Dymo Organizer Express. There are other models that can be purchased used like the 1550, including the 1540, 1570, 1610, M 55, and M-10.

Omg! THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! I was just trying to repair my crappy Xpress which has barely functioned throughout a year of ownership. I love these reminders that once upon a time, things were built to function and last (with proper maintenance, of course). Keep spreading the good gospel. I’m an 80s baby and happy for any opportunity to revive conscious consumerism. Just got my 1575 Chrome on eBay, cause research says it takes all tape sizes. Thanks Leila. Such a s nice comment! It's hard to believe just how inadequate the Xpress is (unless you only need 5 labels it's nearly a disposable item) and how well the older label makers work. They're wonderful. You will be so happy making labels. I use different color tapes and they are very handy when I want more contrast or less. And I agree with your points on consumerism. We need to be smarter for ourselves and for the planet.

Awesome , I have an extremely rare Dymo from the 70s , full metal, it resembles a M-55 but its slightly thinner , yet heavier

They are very cool. In the 70s I only knew the plastic ones for kids and never imagined there was anything more industrial in the Dymo world. I would love to see a picture.

Thank you for this video! My Dymo Omega stopped working after some years and I was looking to invest into something more sturdy and well made. I ordered one from eBay and the shipping and customs fees were higher than the embosser itself! What a pity they stopped making them. I believe in quality over quantity.

I have to agree. The newer model xpress could have much better quality. But maybe a lot of people only need it for a brief moment. Anyone who really loves these labels or wants to print more than a dozen will want an older machine. In addition, they are much more satisfying to use. Cheers!

Very clear and useful video. I have the 1550 model and it hasnt let me down. I have found to only buy the dymo brand tape as the generic tapes tend not to stick as well. Thanks

Thanks so much. I get silly critics of my relaxed style from some viewers. I appreciate your compliment. I love my 1550. Sometimes it sits for months. But when I need it, it does the job without a fault. I will have to check out some dymo tape. I bought a box of like 8 or 10 from China in different colors and no complaints yet. I just cant finish them all.

Great video i have the dymo express but the small small unbranded from Ali express etc are really punch better than dymo express that as you mentioned in the video it sticks in the scissors sign etc… cheers from Cyprus 🇨🇾

Some Dymo come with 2 different size horizontal letter wheels and a 3rd wheel for vertical type. There is also a lowercase and script wheel on some models. No idea if wheels from one work on others, probably unlikely.

My new dymo omega couldnt even print out the supplied tape. Some plastic part broke inside, now it wont advance the tape. Its just awful.

For anything but a couple of labels, they are just not very well built. Get an oldie on eBay, You will love it.

A bit of Plastic tape is stuck in the Mechanism if it wont cut or print !!!! You can turn it over and tap it, or pull out the Piece of plastic with a Pin !!!! I've used mine thousands of times and it always prints and cuts the label !!! It's the small tab that cuts off at the end of the tape that gets stuck !!!!

Just had to toss a broken version of the first unit. Replaced it with a soon-to-arrive MoTex unit, and am wondering about a #1550. I have one of the electronic ones, but I prefer the embossed version.

It might depend on how often you use it. I use my 1550 a few times a week and it has been nothing but reliable. Not a single breakdown or glitch.

I have a 1570 DYMO after my parent's vintage plastic one just stopped working well (all plastic, 1967 I believe "label-it" DYMO). What's the difference between a 1550 and a 1570 though? Can't find that answer online

That's right, both machines work with the same 3/8 tape. The 1550 just does a much better job of it.

From what I found online, the 1530 can use either 1/4 or 3/8 tape rolls. The 3/8 are very commonly available online. They are wider and easier to see as well. Get that 1530 back in action!

Hi! How long is a 6 or 7 letter label? Asking because I need to know before I purchase to see if the label will fit on my spice jars!

So the Dymo embossed isn't as uniform as say one of the paper laser label writers. But, I would say that 6 letters/numbers on average is about 1 inch long by my measurement. You have to add a little bit on each end. The Dymo will give you like 1/4 inch, but you could trim it down to 1/8 inch and it would still look very good. So for a 6-7 letter label, it might be 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 inch in length.

1550 uses 1\4 and 3\8 tape, 1570 uses 1\2 and 3\8 tape, that's all the difference between them.

I found this link on for the 1550 manual. www.manualslib.com/manual/461826/Dymo-1570.html?page=2#manual. It states push the wheel from right to left to remove. I tried it on mine worked easily. You have to do it gently but firmly. Do the same in reverse to install the new wheel.

It depends on which one you want to order. Express makers cost around $15 U.S. The other models can run with delivery anywhere between $20-$60 U.S. Hope that helps.
