I think people are looking at the dynamic island all wrong!.First if you compare it to the competition it’s still not great and while is does bring functionality that the competition does not it’s still bigger then a hole punch or all screen design.Second it’s usability is a reason why it’s probably not a gimmick, could have left it there like the notch but they did add functionality and the truth is Samsung has a hole punch with no functionality so in that standpoint s dynamic island is worth it.However the dynamic island is still a filler and that we know, has still not created an all screen iPhone which they probably could and instead are stretching it out over the years,in just a few years the dynamic island will be old like the notch is now. On the other hand lots of people complain about multi tasking on iPhones not being there,the dynamic island is the closest we get to that and in that sense it’s actually amazing,The ability to change the song while doing something else without having to leave an app is a really impressive functionality from !.Also map directions and lots of other things can actually be very beneficial for the dynamic island. In addition to this it’s fresh,It’s better then the notch and is still a symbol of the new iPhone, Look at the Samsung,The same hole punch as always,no longer can you differentiate between models!.There are both cons and pros of the dynamic island. Overall I believe that the dynamic island is really great and honestly is worth it,but it’s not something to go crazy about as in needing to upgrade immediately!.

Right now the Dynamic Island seems more like a niche feature than anything else. However I do see the potential for it to be more useful once more apps take advantage of it.

I have a 14 PM and it definitely feels like a gimmick because there aren't enough apps that have created helpful useful ways to use DI. That being said, as an avid user of the built in timers as well as the Spotify app - I do appreciate the shortcut it creates.

I saw a concept a while ago about iOS 17. In it, it showed the ability to drag and drop items to it (kind of a copy/paste). You’re in one app, drag an item to it, go to another app, then drag it out and drop it without having to hold your finger while switching apps. I thought it was a good idea and I would like to see Apple implement something like that.

When I first moved from the 13pm to the 14 pro I was so excited about the dynamic island. But the longer I’ve had this iPhone the more I realize that even though the dynamic island has some nice visual effects and icons here and there, it is mostly a gimmick, and I find myself missing my 13 pro max 😅

Honestly, considering the insane potential of dynamic island, i want one on my Mac and iPad Pro. It looks fantastic, works smoothly, is extremely functional and is a beautiful design feature. I honestly don't want it to go away. Apple could make it smaller, thinner, narrower or whatever, but it should remain at least on iPhones just like mute switch does.

I switched from 12 pro max to the 15 pro max and was curious to see this dynamic island and very large let down. Barely any developers using it. Maybe it will pick up steam since all iPhone 15s have it unlike the 14. One weather app and one sports app is very telling.

the dynamic island when expanded could affect the oled tho.. cause the expanded one is black bar... so when its active for a long time, the dynamic island that expanded could be brighter than other pixel cause the expanded one is not lit up... no one facing this issue tho for now, dunno if its always active for a year

Quite funny to me that exactly the day I get my 14 Pro Max, you upload such a video :D To me, the dynamic island wasn't THE reason to upgrade but I still really like it already. Especially for stuff like Music playing because it just gives you a live indication that music is playing instead of literally nothing. I also really appreciate that for example FaceID is far less annoying because you don't get a huge pop-up in the center but only a smaller one at the top. Apple really should add this to older iPhones too... And even if it's not functional at all but I LOVE these thoughtful animations

I feel the reason we don’t see much in the dynamic island for iOS 16 is because Apple didn’t want to leak to much information if they added it all in the code. Now it’s revealed, I’m sure will see more within iOS 17.

This is a major problem with ios, you rely on app developers to support ios features, still alot of apps lack pip support and now dynamic island, where as on samsung galaxy you can make any app go into pop out or split screen mode.

To me, this dynamic island feature would always feel an afterthought.. considering how Apple has always looked at their iPhones from a one-hand usability perspective, something that this feature often inhibits.

When you see all the animations and stuff, this really does NOT feel like an afterthought. And they also were able to keep it completely secret until it got unveiled. Which doesn't happen often these days. Arguing with one-hand reachability is not a great one because Apple hasn't put a lot of focus there in the first place for years. Many people probably don't even know that reachability is a feature still or were confused when they accidentally triggered it.

@@Raja995mh33 You’re kidding, right? Apple has time and time again put software features that enable one handed usage. The left swipe to go back in the UI (instead of reaching out for the back button on top left), bottom swipe down to bring UI down, etc. When you look at the value dynamic island feature actually provides to an average user, it does look like an afterthought. The fact that iPhone design didn’t change with this software feature points towards that as well.

@@M4NA5 Read my comment again. I never said Apple hasn't done anything. I said they haven't done anything IN YEARS. And that's just a fact. Swipe left to go back has been a standard feature for literally over a decade and reachability is almost as old. They haven't done anything in favor of one-handed usability literally since the iPhone 6 and basically the iPhone 12 mini as a "hardware solution" which turned out to be a flop. Apple just doesn't really care about one-handed usability and so the dynamic island isn't going against anything. The fact that you always have to reach the very top screen to open control Center or notifications is just one proof of that.

the only benefit of the island for me is the way shortcuts work now. instead of getting a big notification, it just appears in the island. which means replacing all your stock icons with custom ones via shortcuts, you're not bombarded with annoying notifications 👌🏻

Honestly if you have a 12 or 13 pro model it’s really not worth the upgrade. 11 models and older then yes. As for us 12 and 13 pro owners hopefully 15 gives us something to get excited for

Is there a way to disable the Dynamic Island completely? For the way I use my phone it will just be an annoying intrusion, and when I upgrade to a new iPhone I want to be able to make the Dynamic Island go away.

No there is no way to disable it as it’s a key feature to the phone

At least currently, you can't disable it. All you can do is swipe horizontally to make it turn back to the normal size. But that isn't permanent. As soon as the next functionality "hits" it, it'll go back to dynamic.

I love it for sports. Paying $20 a year to get a a weather alert when there a numerous way I’m getting weather alerts like Alexa’s notifications. Music looks cool and flighty is useful and worth the temporary subscription. It would be cool to see messages in the dynamic island.

Hi Aaron, I updated to iOS 16.3.1 from iOS 16.3 which came with my iPhone 14 Pro and battery life is a bit worse than 16.3 which was good for me. What do you recommend to do, and should I always update my iPhone or stay with my current version?

Normally after installing a new update,there is a lot of background activity going on as a result the battery life may seem worse for a couple of hours or day(s) but after some time everything comes back to normal.I think you should always update to the recent software update due to the security updates.

@OrenTV I think this might be some kind of a glitch in the system.Have you tried switching off your device wait for about 1 minute and then switching it on? Most of the time this tends to fix these issues.

Also I have an issue with the software of shaking screen while scrolling in some apps and there is a white frame that jumps around the dynamic island when I open the iPhone in the Lock Screen. I heard that iTunes Recovery Mode can help because it does a clean install of the latest software again even if you have the newest software of iOS 16.3.1, do you think it’s recommended for software issues?

@@satxrn21 Hey,did your issue get resolved? well someone told me that the iPhone 14 line up is one of the buggiest line up so far…In your case I think reinstalling the software would be an excellent idea but I recently read a blog on google and they were saying starting with iOS 16.3.1 once installed it won’t be possible to revert back to the previous iOS version.

Still to this day I miss the notification light from my Galaxy and Droids. Knowing it’ll probably bring the battery to its knees, some sort of slow pulsing orb on the DI would be cool to show notifications are available, but then that asks that DI works standalone from the main screen, which I don’t think it works like that. Even functional as a ticker bar would be cool. So much potential and so little effort with a lot of stuff on a major device, I almost don’t even get why even put it out.
