You did a realy good job on this Diary. Usually soaring videos are kinda booring espesialy with DS . I mean like yeah you can see the plane passing by and hear the sound of a rocketship passing by but thats it. You managed to submit the feeling of the slope with the efford put in. Like Getting there, Setting up the Planes, getting the havy stuff up there, explain where the wind comes from so we can get a feeling , you showed how you strugled to get lift and needet to skip the DS circle to get on the luv side potentialy saving the plane where other usualy showing only the good parts which submits the picture "go to a slope, throw the plane off and you will have infinite lift until the batterie runs low" Thats never the case and seems to be important for the right feeling. you showed also how intense and stressfull it can be to stay in control of the plane and the situation. So pretty long comment but seriusly, Realy good job. Keep up that work! and Nice Landing for that Wind ;)

That's was a brilliant video. You explained dynamic soaring well, kept it entertaining and I could actually see and hear the glider!! I've tried watching some other videos but it's just a camera panning up and down with no signs of the glider. 🤣

Thanks!!! Glad you liked it. Wanted to do a video that was different than everything else out there and actually described how DSing works in layman's terms.

Excellent job on the video. The location looks perfect and the LZ looks great for hollow molded glass ships.

That’s a nice ridge for DSing. Lots of soft grass for the planes to land in. Nothing like the saddle at Parker where it’s all gravel.
@rcsoaringdiaries58133 жыл бұрын
Ya...Its nice and soft on most of the hill here. As we get closer to the mountains though, some of the hills get pretty dicey and rocky on top. Still want to come and visit Parker once all the Covid travel restrictions are lifted!

Lovely grassy landing area is a lot nicer than rocks - love to know the inputs? Bank into turn and then use elevator to dive and climb? My club never thought of this 20 years ago Thanks
@rcsoaringdiaries58133 жыл бұрын
Dynamic soaring started just under 20’years ago I think... Joe Wurts came across it by accident actually. Bank into turn and get your glider under the shear layer... you’ll need up elevator to keep the “loop” going. Best way to start is to dive behind the hill under the shear layer and then fly back out into the slope lift on the front side. This gives you a feel for things.... then next time try 2 orbits behind the hill... start increasing the amount of times you circle behind the hill and before you know it... you’ll have it in “the groove”

Nice day of flying. How do you get your ground crew to stay all day? Mine has her car started ready to leave just as I'm landing ! I guess I'll have to try a bigger bribe.

Nice video , but turn the music down a few thousand db. I have to turn the volume up to hear you talk, then get windows blown out when music comes back on.

somebody just broke world record 548mph with dynamic soaring!
@rcsoaringdiaries58133 жыл бұрын
Yes.... Spencer did! He’s a great guy and deserves to have the record!!!! It was only 3 mph faster than his last record but it was on the maiden flight of his new plane! Can’t wait to see what it does when he feels more comfortable with it!

Are you a former MMA-fighter? At least you share the looks of one. Nice flying and DS is definitely worth a try. Edit: No, you must be the illusionist, am I right? Well MMA is also about illusions, so I was pretty close.

Love the colors on the Opus! Did you get it from RC-Direct? Mine was one of my all time favorite planes...until it hit the backside at Vincent, CA.

I actually got it used from someone getting out of the slope soaring side of the hobby. It’s a great glider! Nice and stable,.. no surprises!

@@rcsoaringdiaries5813 Nice! Just be careful not to get it too slow. There are situations where it will stall/spin with almost no warning. Luckily I learned this when I was up high enough to recover, so it never bit me after that.
@rcsoaringdiaries58133 жыл бұрын
Yes... it definitely likes some airspeed. Tried to drag it in on landings a couple of times and it didn’t like it at all!!!

I need an opus a long time ago I' several molded ships and I just wasn't doing enough research Got a tomcat and cappuccino just near not fast enough for me
@rcsoaringdiaries58133 жыл бұрын
It's a pretty fast ship and was one of the first designs to exceed 200mph. There's much faster now. There is some new planes that I'll be flying this year that are capable of flying twice as fast as the Opus. Stay tuned for the videos

Hey Tom!!! Hope things are well. This site is west of Millarville.

Hello guys, I have permission on a west facing hill south of Longview that I have been using for soaring my paraglider. It's a bit of a walk but nice, big and open and clear of surrounding terrain. Newly back into rc's and looking to meet other people to slope soar with. Happy to share sites, I have a few out of the way nice ones and always looking for more. Cheers.

@@alistairclark6814 Hey Alistair! I'm definitely down with that! As our weather warms we need to connect and fly some slopes! I only have an old SR-7 and Radian Pro that I'm willing to subject to slopestyle landings, but they pretty much cover the high and low ends of the wind spectrum.

Can you put an FPV camera on for a birds eye view?
@rcsoaringdiaries58133 жыл бұрын
we definitely can to get some onboard video but to fly FPV would be a little crazy. Would be really hard to see where the glider is in the shear layer. Far easier to see that looking at it from the ground.

All I really want to know is if anyone has ever been hit by one of these things. It's going crazy fast.

Hello, I am kinda newish to slope soaring and live in Calgary. Looks like you might be my guy for a source of info and a way to meet other enthusiasts in the area. Want to go fly so you can check out my gliders and give me some critiques? I am figuring it out but kinda stabbing in the dark on a few aspects of my scratch builds. Cheers, great video!
