Incredibly, 5 years later you still can't filter by a parent category and see items in child categories. What's the point of parent/child categories when they're unusable, unsearchable, unfilterable?

Johannes, How would utilizing dimensions related to Items complement or conflict with attributes? It seems to me there may be redundancies, but I may be thinking about this incorrectly.

Dimensions will allow you to separate out G/L entries from the bottom up (they exist in the G/L) as well as other ledger entries (value, item). Attributes will force you to filter from top down, beginning from the Item, which is sometimes harder. Also dimensions will give you combinations like customer/item from a sales order.
