Dynamics NAV: General Journals

How do you use the General Journals to post to the General Ledger? I will go through 3 most common uses of the General Journal.

Hi, Thanks for information. I am using document numbers in the Journal tab. However, when I want to enter a new record, it does not continue from the previous one. Returning to its original number. Do you have any suggestions for this?

Is if possible to view the unposted journal entries in Trial balance ? Like the draft before we post?

Thomas, if you had left the balancing account type as g/l and still selected account 10 as your balancing account number, what would have happened? Where would the money have been posted? And how would that affect your bank rec? I don't understand how a system can have one cash account, yet be different in terms of account TYPE.. IE g/l versus bank. Thank you.

Hi Von Milash, I'm not sure i understand your question correctly, but if you had left the balancing account type as G/L instead of BANK, then your Bank Account Card (HSBC) would be unaware of the transaction and you would end up with a discrepancy between your G/L Bank Account and your Bank Account Card (HSBC). Therefore your Bank Account Card HSBC would not show this transaction which would be a bad thing for your bank reconciliations. I hope this answers your question.

It does, thank you. But I still don't understand the difference between the GL bank account and the Bank account card? Why are there two? Or.. when might you debit or credit the GL bank account and NOT the bank account card?

The G/L Bank Account is simply a normal G/L Account and has no functionality other than being able to hold a balance, so your debits/credits balance. The Bank Account Card on the ohter hand has much functionality connected to it such as multi currency, bank reconsiliation, etc. You could say it is an "add on".

It is similar to the Customer Card vs. the Accounts Receivables in the G/L. The Customer Card has a lot of functionality attached to it.
