looks cool. Especially as I love seeing most anything that helps with Hero Quest. Glad I got to see this video. I think I missed it a few weeks back while I was sick (I had COVID-19) Fortunately, my case was mild & I'm now recovered & going strong again.

That looks like an amazing set. Already printed out my Dragon's Rest dungeon tiles but I think I may also be supporting Geert on Patreon!

How many starter kit do I need to buy to make the HeroQuest board?
@gbevin2 жыл бұрын
HeroQuest is a massive board, 19x26 tiles for a total of 494 tiles. The Dynamod starter box covers 96 tiles, so for the full HQ board you'd need six starter boxes. That would however not be the most economical way to go about it since HeroQuest has a number of large preconfigured rooms, the largest being 6x5. Using these rooms saves a lot of cost in magnets and connection time. I've made two HeroQuest boards for myself and they take several weeks to print and assemble. I would suggest getting a 3D printer and using the STL files from my Patreon to make the board yourself. Then you can also customize and print additional things to your heart's content.

@@gbevin I’m curious. Would you at all be interested in selling a complete HeroQuest board kit including the preconfigured room tiles, floors (I see you have even done the proper floor patterns for the rooms), walls, hinged doors, traps and stone tile edges? If so, what would you charge for such a massive kit?
@gbevin2 жыл бұрын
@@CouchguyTV I could look into that, it would probably be around $1k for such a board given the price of magnets and the time it takes to print, but yeah I have all the floor patterns and even have filament colors that come close to the original colors

@@gbevin Yes, I figured as much. That’s a little out of range for me right now. As I said, I was just curious. My curiosity is now satisfied.😁 The advice you gave earlier seems sound - get a 3D printer and do it myself! (I have one with a large bed. Needs some care and attention as it hasn’t been used in some time. But I’m retired now, so time is more plentiful than money these days!) Thanks for the quick response. This system is a real winner. I’ll recommend it to my various contacts.

@@CouchguyTV if you're willing to put get the magnets yourself and put them in there (I have 3D printed jigs and tools to make that easy, it's just tedious), I could do it cheaper, just putting it out there as an option

That is a pretty clever set. I was planning on building a Dragon's Rest set, but now I am not so sure what to do.
@Archaeonomy2 жыл бұрын
Solving the wall issue to give a perfect grid is a big plus, but I prefer the look of the dragons rest walls and floors, and since I would want to scale up these squares to near dragons rest size, the black cracks between the squares would get bigger and uglier. This is not easy to decide.
@Archaeonomy2 жыл бұрын
I wonder if it would be possible to hybridise the two concepts in blender, alter the dragon's rests tiles so they cup ball magnets between squares, thin the walls a little, and have them magnetally attach along the seams, intruding into each adjacent square only slightly?
@gbevin2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I actually started my set by adapting the Dragon's Rest walls. The Patreon files include a full set of remix tools to be able to conveniently adapt existing models to the right size and with the right holes. I'll soon record a video that demonstrates how to use these.
@Archaeonomy2 жыл бұрын
@@gbevin Do you think it would be possible to have wider versions of the tile inserts which can connect flush together to close the cracks in rooms? I guess versions with notches for the wall peg would be needed for edge and corner pieces.
@gbevin2 жыл бұрын
@@Archaeonomy I could give it a shot, I think it might be workable, the one downside would be that you wouldn't be able to remove the inserts without removing the walls and doors that are at its edges. The current ones allows you to insert and remove the inserts at any time.

Hello!! I printed the "test" pack.... on an elegoo Saturn 3... and the walls do not fit well on the notches... the same for the dales, I had to cut the small marks that stop them... Did you have the same problems? If I take the complete pack on their site, do I have to rework all the stl? Thank you for your videos!!!

Hi I am new to 3d printing and I love your youtube channel it has been so helpful for me. I wonder if you can help I bought the complete files for Dynamod to print the HeroQuest board, However there are only 15 coloured floor rooms there should be 22, or am I missing something

Can you clarify your question for me? Are you saying the set you purchased has only fifteen different floor tile types? Or are you talking about the pre-colored floors?

@gaminggeek wondering what is the size of each square? info for sizing purposes.
@gbevin2 жыл бұрын
Replying here as well in case others have that question, the grid square is 32x32mm. The size of each tile is 35.6mm x 32mm with the wall slots, but the 2 x 1.8mm are indented in the adjacent tiles so it's really absorbed in the full layout, meaning that 32x32mm is the grid size you reason about
