Although some sources state that he died at the age of 49, which would place his death in 237 AD, another historical account notes that Luo Tong, another Wu general, took over Ling Tong’s troops after his death and, along with Lu Xun, defeated Liu Bei in the Battle of Yiling in 222 AD. These two accounts are contradictory. Furthermore, Ling Tong was no longer mentioned in records after the Battle of Hefei in 215 AD, and there are accounts indicating that his children were still very young at the time of his death. Therefore, it is more reasonable to conclude that Ling Tong died in 217 AD at the age of 29.
