Dynasty Warriors 8: XL CE - Shu Story Mode 9-IF - Battle of Fan Castle (Ultimate)

This version of Fan Castle has less 2/5 of the Guan family dying and more Xu Shu fixing everything. Now that everyone is alive, everything goes right in this battle. Hell, even Zhang Jiao shows up to lend a hand after becoming a Liu Bei fan boy. This is one of the most entertaining Fan Castle battles if nothing else.
You'll also notice that Lu Su is alive as well and shows up to hold back Lu Meng, albeit unsuccessfully. There's not much to support this, but in my own head canon I imagine Lu Su survives because Zhang Jiao survived and focused his magical studies on healing the sick, which would also explain why though Zhang Jiao supports Liu Bei he only helps him when he really needs it. As fun as it would be to have Zhang Jiao in other battles, he doesn't show up again.

I kinda wish Zhang Jiao continued to show up as an ally in the Shu hypothetical route. He's a fun character who normally doesn't get that much screen time in these games. (Because he's generally just the tutorial boss.)

Man, What a great era of DW. 8 was hands down one of the best in series, had its faults of course, 7 might have been a bit better BUT 8 perfected a lot of what 7 was trying to do. Hypotheticals , especially Shu's was just amazing, wishing Guan Yu never died and now seeing it. just love this game so much

I was really despise Zhang Jiao because he initiated the Yellow Turban Rebellion and I thought Han dynasty is the good side one but after I understand the whole story that Han dynasty is a corrupt and the yellow turban soldiers are peasants who suffered because of the corruption makes me kind of love Zhang Jiao tbh. Pretty bad that he painted as villain because the rebellion failed but at least Han dynasty truly in shambles after YTR and eventually died

That is because you're playing the Xtreme Legends version. You need the original DW8 to play Story Mode on XL version.

After the battle of hanzhong shu became the strongest kingdom. Thats why wu ally wei to kill guan yu, to weaken shu.

That is not a reason. In the story, Guan Yu insulted Sun Quan by saying Quan's son was a inferior dog as he proposed his son to marry Guan Yu's daughter. Guan Yu paid the price due to his pride. Taking advance that Guan Yu invaded the fan castle, Wu allied with Wei to kill Guan Yu and retook the Jing province. Even Liu Bei succeeded taking Han Zhong, the ally situation was not as bas as you said, not until Guan Yu destroyed everything

It's an alternate ending. Because just like the name suggest, the historical one is what happen in reality (with a bit modifications by koei off course).

To not kill Zhang Jiao, rescue the peasants that appear in the middle of the map during the Yellow Turban Rebellion. To safe Guan Yu, you must complete the star objectives from the previous missions. - Rescue the peasants in Yellow Turban Rebellion - Eliminate all retreating wei officers in Xu - Talk to Xu Shu at Chi Bi after you defeat him - Ensure Pang Tong's survival in Cheng Du by uncovering the ambush before it started - Defeat Cao Xiu in Mount Ding Jun

In Yellow turban rebellion, rescue the peasants. in Battle of Chi-Bi, find Xu shu and convinced him to join Liu Bei again.... in battle of Cheng Du, use Pang Tong (i guess, i forgot) the point is to keep Pang Tong still alive after the Battle therefore, in Battle of Fan Castle there will be a New Storyline
