Testing the BM5-mkIII active studio monitor speakers from Dynaudio.
After a break-in period of two weeks (playing different genres of music on them for extended periods of time on a moderate level), I put them to the test in my studio.
The overall sound is pleasing and non-fatiguing even after longer mixing- and mastering-sessions. The balance is pretty good and they sound fairly neutral. They have bottom-end, because of a 7 Inch woofer and the mid & high range is defined, which translates in good stereo-imaging. My mixes translated well on other systems, and that is wat you are looking for in studio monitors.
I have to say that the placement on my desk during the testing was not 100% optimal, because they were positioned a bit too close to the wall & my 19" racks, due to a lack of space. Because the BM5's are rear ported, there was a tiny bit of bass build-up in the lower mids. This (small) issue had nothing to do with the quality of the speakers themselves.
Overall I think that these monitors are a great investment when you don't want to break the bank. At the moment this video was made, they cost around € 400,- a piece. That's a real bargain for the quality you get!
