@@Studioincar It definitely does. I appreciate good sound on good equipment, but without the extra work and clutter you've described with session listening, though I do like reading and watching all about it.

Been waiting for something like this comparison, thank you! I have a pair of Special 40’s driven by Lyngdorf TDAI1120, and they act like a Focus system (Streaming and RoomPerfect correction from Lyngdorf) but with better drivers. I still think Focus system is terrific for people who have money and who want the shortest and easiest way of getting HiFi in their homes. But for that price personally I would get a pair of Heritage Specials!

It would be great, but unfortunately the Heritage Special is out of stock, it was a limited edition of 2500 pairs.

Hey Rafael - seen your name pop up a few times in the comments 😊. I'm actually considering the same S40 and Lyngdorf setup. Does the 1120, once room corrected, tame the bass of the S40? I really do not like a thick boomy sound and that remains a concern. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

@@KAL-589 hi there, yes I’m still rockin the same setup, however I would highly recommend a dedicated subwoofer with this combo. RoomPerfect works like magic, and there’s always a possibility to adjust it to your taste even further with different voicing options on 1120.

@@RafaelGrigorian Thanks for the insights! Most say the bass is very strong, and yet you recommend an additional sub? 🤯 Would you say the sound is thin/light with the Lyngdorf without a sub?

@@KAL-589 Your experience may vary but adding a single REL subwoofer transformed the sound completely. You either like subs or not.

Interesting views. Not sure about the longevity of the focus 10. Electronics development moves quickly. I’m sure separating speakers allows more flexibility. I’ve had many source and amplification over the years yet only 3 different speakers. Dynaudio Contour 1.4s - these were good but a bit ‘dark’ sounding. Special 40’s - had the dynaudio sound but way too much bass for my room (22ft x 12) and no detail at low volume levels. I settled (so far) for Dynaudio excites x12 - about right for my room. It’s all about your room.

Thank you for the comparison and great review of both scenarios. Does your shop carry other integrated amps besides Hegel that you like with special 40s? Long story but I have a pair of almost new open box 40s that still need an integrated to pair with the but strongly considering selling or trading them for the active 10s you just compared.

Another great review and advice Carl - thank you. Would like to know why you did not use on Hegel it’s UpnP feature, it’s inbuilt network feature to play music via mConnect or bubble App ( high res) which Hegel had listed on their website, that can be used . Instead you used Airplay ( CD quality) Is UpnP and mconnect or Bubble safe and secure to use on the internet for our devices ? Once again thanks

I'm familiar with the sound of the Focus 20XD, in what way does the Focus 10 sound different?

I have the 20xd as well. It’s a bigger speaker (has a bigger driver) and its rearportet so my guess is it sounds “bigger” than the focus 10. But i think the focus 10 works better in small/hard rooms for same reason. I believe the tweeter in the 20xd is aldo closer to the special 40 tweeter, being the esotar 2 but haven’t heard the new cerotar so its only a guesstimate😊 I absolutely love my 20xds!

@@Studioincar yes sir I have put a cone in the back hole and using rel t5x as a sub in small room snd on a desktop setup. Trying to make it work. I should have auditioned focus 10.

Did you made firmware reset before pairing wen speakers to Hegel?
