Hello Don; Thanks for taking us on a repair tour. Your perseverance on this bespeaks volumes as how you've spent years creating Suzybelle.. You're a pretty amazing guy and not much seems to get your goat. Loving to follow this adventure.

Hi, great up-date, I recommend the best epoxy for repairs, It is used in aerospace and commercial aircraft, Loctite hysol 9462 is the best Epoxi

The cooler weather just slows down the curing. Overnight, it does set up. Thanks for the ideas too.
@amtpdb1Ай бұрын
You might want to get some dry ice for the shaft to cool it down then you would not have to heat things too hot to get things together. That is how a shop I used to work at installed bearings that needed a press fit. Thanks for the video.
@Dynodon64Ай бұрын
That stuff is hard to find around here, but I have used it before to install cylinder sleeve in a forklift motor. Worked perfect.

Thanks for the update! I'm surprised those little bearings were selected to carry all the prop Thrust (+/-). One of them is loaded whenever the engine is running. I expected something more substantial. Is their oil delivered under pressure or just splash? In any case, thanks for leaning into this repair - can't wait to see you in the air again!!
@Dynodon64Ай бұрын
Oil pressure is restricted through a small orifice, then the oil is splash lubed.

Edit: Just got to the end and saw you already have a go fund me account. I made a $60 donation, (don’t know why it says anonymous) and although I can’t tell you what do do with it, I hope that you would put it towards a tailwheel lesson or endorsement!

Thank you for the donation. In time I do want to get some training, never said I wouldn't, but finding a plane around here is not easy. Most of the ones I have heard about are hours away.

What's your estimate on the cost of repairs and cost of adding the tail wheel lock? Also how long do you suspect till you get back in the air?
@Dynodon6424 күн бұрын
The repairs will be a couple thousand dollars. I will be replacing the whole taiwheel and make it lockable. That wheel cost @ $370.
@ntme924 күн бұрын
@Dynodon64 not horrible, looking forward to you getting it back in the air
@lanejonesАй бұрын
Did the part fail in normal flight or did it fail due to the nose over? Either way, I would let the manufacturer know about it, so they can improve it.
@Dynodon64Ай бұрын
Which part? The tailwheel or the gearbox? The gearbox wasn't damaged. I took it apart to check it out. I broke the thrust bearing washer taking it apart. The tailwheel just came out of its centering device and caused the turn. I will be making the unit lockable from the cockpit.
@MuzzleMikeАй бұрын

So... you're saying that you're building a scaled model aircraft? Who ever said that skills and materials don't overlap in hobbies?
@M5guitar1Ай бұрын
All piloted aircraft are just large model airplanes...they all crash eventually, sadly.
@charlescampbellii8193Ай бұрын
So, did you ever find out what caused the veer off of the runway?
@BlitzpigАй бұрын
Pilot lost control on runway or Pilot’s Failure to Maintain Directional Control During the Landing Roll.
@Dynodon64Ай бұрын
Tail wheel came out of its centering device and allowed it to turn when the tailwheel touched down. The tailwheel is a full swivel unit and is not tied into the rudder pedals. Only differential braking can bring it back to center. At the speed I was going, the brakes couldn't bring it back.

Anyone who has the perseverance to work on a project for as long as you have, complete it, and test it followed by an unfortunate mishap earns my support. I want you to be able to fix it without straining finances. Hopefully your go fund me keeps growing a bit more before you cash out.
