Thank you so much for the feedback. Glad it helped.
@tasmedic5 жыл бұрын
Most likely it will be a simple matter of charging it up then running the appliance until it runs flat. Then check voltages on the cells. You could then try replacing the worst of the cells, although this would be tough to do, judging by the design. Looking at this excellent video, it would probably be easier to remove all the batteries, and the charging circuit, and replace with new cells plus a 7-way molex plug connected to the positive end of each cell, plus the negative end of the last cell. You could then use a standard balance charger to charge the thing up. Not ideal, as you'd have to charge the battery off the appliance, but it's what I've done with all my lithium cordless drills and it works very well, plus you can choose your own charge rate and use a top notch balance charger which preserves the cells. If you've multiple lithium ion devices, and you adapt them all to molex plugs, you'll be laughing!

It's highly likely these 18650 cells are low or faulty. These batteries only last about 2 years in the Dyson. In the UK you can buy Samsung 18650 cells from £3.79 each. Get yourself a multimeter and check each cell. But, to remove the cells and install new ones isn't for beginning. The cells need to be spot welded on back.

Christian I thought initially "such a novice!!!". Damn guys, it is really the hardest battery pack I ever came across. To open it you eventually ruin it. It is not because of the plastic clips, it is because it is damn tight (with foam tape to increase the friction even further!!). To those that are wondering. I just rebuild mine, replacing the original Sony US 18650vc3 (rated 1900 mAh, 20A) with 6 LG HG2 (3000 mAh, 20A). PROBLEM: the original Sony have a diameter of 18.2mm, the LG have a diameter of 18.5 (0.3mm more). Guys, they DO NOT FIT, you have to use the Dremel to re-bore the cells' case, or modify the cell case (like a did with a cutter). As a result, the battery pack will result bent, and you will have to close it with American tape. Is it worthwhile? Meh...

Haha, yeah, well... I know it's not pretty and it sure looks like a novice. Thanks for the comment. It's not worth rebuilding it...
@paolocorronca33906 жыл бұрын
Christian Galipeau seriously, initially thought “here we go. It’s just a matter of patience, this guy had none...” took me two hours to open the case, no matter the use of hairdryer to make the plastic softer... and eventually the cells that I had were slightly too big to fit... it’s really a risky exercise, because you have to weld over the battery and there is really little space. Risk of shorting is real.

The plastic Dyson used is flexible enough to take the strain and not break. I just opened a similar case (DC62) with very little visible damage. Now I have to find a way to unclip the light guide for the LED indicator. Almost harder than opening the case 😜

Makes you think why Dyson did not design the battery pack where you can side in the replacement individual chargeable batteries one by one. Some one claimed Dyson do not sell the pack any more yet they are still advertising on their website. My main concern there are plenty available cheap compatibles for sale from China priced around £22. Just don’t trust the compatibles for this reason.

Hi, I've opened my D62 battery pack. It is slightl different of yours. Do you know the type of soldering, is it tin? Can I use a soldering iron ?
@KegRaider6 жыл бұрын
All lithium battery packs are spot welded. You can solder, however, be very careful. I have done it plenty of times before, without issue. I scuff up the new battery terminals with a razor or file, then set my soldering iron to MAX heat (550 C), then on the newly scratched up area of the battery hold the iron and apply a gererous amount of solder, without making it flood inside the positive cap!. Do one end of the battery, then move to the next battery, giving them time to cool down before soldering the other end. Remember, be careful! They can explode.

The dyson use us sony VTC4 18650 cells which have high amp 30Amp. The aftermarket chinese ones use any old cells. It may be worthwhile finding a faulty aftermarket battery pack and put in sony vtc4 cells. The aftermaket packs might be easier to take apart and reasemble.
