good teardown. no thermal fuse on the charge connector (the part you damaged)

Thanks for this. So it's just a connector?
@justinmorrow293211 ай бұрын
@@Greeves yeah, it is the barrel connector for the charger.

11:59 Side loading 18650’s into a Dyson battery would be sweet. Make it! Might as well do something with that case now that it’s blown to bits hahah. Awesome vid thanks for the teardown. Glad to see the world still runs on 18650s

Many thanks for the comment 😄

what batteries name and capacity are inside? Did watch video to know that and and no such vital information there.

Sorry about that. The batteries are 18650s 2000mAh capacity. There's no brand marking. One of the cells measured as being well down on capacity, which is no doubt why the overall pack was weak.

I have a similar pack that doesn't seem to switch power to the output terminals unless installed in the tool (vac). That, or something is fried in the output circuitry. Do you know how to trick the pack into thinking it's attached to it's tool?

With the pack out of the machine, pressing the button on the stem should turn on the blue LED & put about 25V DC on the terminals. Sounds like your pack may be faulty (?)

@@Greeves Thank you. I feared that. If the charging circuit is still working, i might at least be able to use that, keep it as a pack, and tap directly off the battery terminals.

Thanks for making this. I have a replacement battery on which the switch broke leaving it unable to turn off. The case seems to be constructed with a philips screw on the stem and a torx n

Um, that doesn't sound good. Presumably it's a non-Dyson replacement battery and may not be of great quality. I think I'd put it outside, somewhere dry but away from anything combustable. Leave it for a few weeks until it cools down & stops smelling. Then it would probably be safe to carefully break apart, if you're interested in seeing what went wrong. In any case you could take it to a public recycling centre and dispose of it. I'm not an expert though - just a keen DIYer - so don't claim to know the definitive answer. These batteries can easily hold enough energy to start a serious fire - so not worth taking any chances with.

@@Greeves Thanks, I put it into a closed tin can and checked the voltage drop which is now ~5v and it is cool. I assume the short is dropping the power so when it gets to 0v I'll put it into recycling. The short is at the input to charge which was bent aside and then pushed down by the switch. The take away is to be careful when putting the v7 on the wall stand to see that the pin in the battery lines up with the barrel socket on the wall.

@@mw-th9ov Thanks for posting the update - interesting. The barrel connector on the charging station always did seem a bit ‘naff’ and is evidently a weak point. On an expensive Dyson you’d think they’d have designed a more robust method. All the best. 🙂

That would be a good idea to have a door on the side to replace the batteries and it's annoying that they don't do that. Thanks!

Cells have to be welded to conductors to cope with high current when being used. These cells aren't like the kind of battery you see for sale in supermarkets, they have to be handled with care and you have to know what you are doing to refurbish a battery pack like this.

@schrodingerscat1863 Fair enough, I’m sure you’re right. Thanks for the comment

It isn't possible to build these battery packs with easily replaceable cells as you suggest because the cells have to be welded to conductors because of high current operation. It just isn't worth attempting to make them end user refurbishable.

Thanks for the comment. Now you point it out, you're right of course. 🙂
