‘Dystopian’: Canada to legalise euthanasia for drug addicts

Canada is set to legalise euthanasia for drug addicts.
The government will pass legislation in March which will mean people with substance abuse issues can access assisted suicide even if they have no physical ailments.
“This is a terrible idea - you’d hardly suggest that people with substance abuse issues are in the best place to make decisions like this about their lives or to end their lives,” Sky News host James Macpherson said.
“Not only that but most people with substance abuse issues can be helped to live a meaningful life if they just get government support.
“It’s kind of a dystopian world isn’t it, where it becomes more economical for a government to suggest that maybe people just want to end their lives than to supply services to help them improve their lives.”

I'm Canadian and I suffer from BPD. I had a tooth infection and I couldn't afford to have it treated. I started searching the government website to see if there were any programs to help me pay for a tooth extraction. To my horror I found that there were no programs for my tooth but as someone with BPD I qualified for assisted suicide. My government would rather pay for pills to kill me than to fix my tooth infection.

It's a programme ran by a woman called Julie who had BPD herself but did heal from it and no longer fits the criteria (hasn't for many yrs now.) I started my healing journey with her back in the early days (2013) I wasn't officially diagnosed with BPD but the psychologist did agree that I shared traits, albeit at the milder end of the spectrum (though it didn't feel 'mild,' at the time, lol) I'm fully healed now. No MHI illness at all. Point is, it is possible to heal from BPD (we all need hope, right? Although forgive me if you already know this,

This is disgusting! I’m a recovering addict and I thank God this was not an option when I was drinking. I was never a drinker but I struggled with severe postpartum depression after I had my 2nd baby. We couldn’t seem to get the meds right and I used alcohol for 2 years to self medicate! We finally found the right medication and I have stopped drinking nor have I had any desire to do so since we found the right medication! I was in the worst place I had ever been in my whole entire life, and I would never wish that upon my worst enemy! Yet, we do recover, and thank God, my babies still have their mother! If that would’ve been an option at the time I was using alcohol who knows if I would’ve done it because I was not in the right place mentally! Trudeau is evil!

Canada only legalized euthanasia in 2016! Only for adults with terminal illness. So it's only taken a few years to go from just terminal illness to non-terminal chronic pain, disabilities, depression, mental illness and now drig addiction! Canada also wants to allow minors, I think it was age 14, to choose euthanize without parental consent. In the Netherlands the last I read children as young as 12 with terminal illness OR chronic illness causing pain could legally make the decision on their own but authorities were trying to reduce the age to 8 years old!! I also read they had euthanasia vans that would go to their home, I guess of van so they can transport the body. It always starts with them saying it's only for adults with terminal illnesses, but it doesn't take long for that to change! Sickening!! More proof, albeit unneeded, that the governments do not care about our lives and it's all about the money!

So, let me get this straight... My mother who was brain dead after she had a stroke in the tub & drowned . She couldn't get the dignity she deserved in the early 90's to pass away peacefully(assisted), but no, I had to watch them starve her to death, took 31 days. At the age of 16 that was pure torture. They would rather pay for and encourage euthanasia than allow psychiatric treatments using psychedelics, which works by the way, and instead banned manufacturing and research completely. In the 1950s-60s it was show that a one dose of LSD combined with a single long 6 - 8 Hour therapy session had an over 90% success rate treating alcoholism! Even in-patient rehab has an extremely low rate of successful treatment with high rates of relapse. Almost none of the individuals treated in the long ago studies began drinking again. Similar Studies have shown them to be an effective treatment for PTSD in soldiers and trauma victims after only short-term use combined with short term therapy! But the long-term use of antidepressants, often life-long, and therapy have been proven to be ineffective at treating PTSD. 😢😢😢 They don't care about us.

This is such a complex issue. I have two family members with hopeless alcohol addiction and they drive the entire family crazy with their non-stop victim mentality: "Nobody ever helps me!". Who just spent money to get your car fixed so you could stay employed? Oh right, that was ME! The addicts in my family never help themselves and have near zero self-control. At the moment, addicts can choose to: do nothing, receive treatment and stick with it or check themselves out. If receiving treatment became mandatory, why would that be ok? Violation of mandatory treatment would mean prison, wouldn't it? I could see a situation where you claim someone is addicted or mentally ill, just to force them to conform to your reality.

This sounds like you support this to relieve the pain and stress in YOUR life caused by family members’ addiction. If you don’t want to help them, then don’t. And requiring drug addicts to get treatment (after they’ve committed a criminal act) isn’t anywhere close to advocating they get euthanized.

Help has to be wanted. It doesn't work if they don't want it. And in the meantime they waste a lot of time and money and are dangerous. I used to be one. I wanted to put myself down and I wish I had sometimes. It's harder to be normal after being broken than just staying broken.
