==== TAI SABAKI ==== 0:57 - basic stance. - stay on balls of feet. - point toes inwards. 3:00 - basic single step don't stomp, slide. don't stand tall as you are bringing trailing leg in, you're asking to be swept. lower your COM gradually as you step (diagonal line), don't jump up. I think the consequence of this is also getting swept. 3:48 - basic multiple step with right handed stance - stay low as you're moving. you can stand up staighter (BUT NOT ALL THE WAY) once both feet are firmly planted again. 5:34 - basic multiple step with alternating stances - continues 6:41 why do we move? answer: to move our opponents. you cannot move your opponent if your COM rises instead of sinks when you step. you want to use the torque created by gravity of your COM around your singular remaining planted foot to move your opponent. this is larger if you sink rather than rise. - 8:40 bad example of respond to pull. notice the hinge in her hips. notice that her back leg steps forward, rather than front leg (hip hinge is a reason to use proper tai sabaki) - 9:03 good example. notice her hip does not hinge, because she is stepping right. her base remains wide. in fact, in response to tsunoda sensei's pull, she steps her front foot, effectively expanding her base to deal with the perturbation. - 9:45 more examples of what not to do. on the way out - don't bring trailing leg all the way in. on the way back - don't step heel/out side of foot first. 6:17 - stepping: use balls of feet - don't stomp with heel, don't step with whole foot. - I think, this is just a cue that keeps you from over committing your COM forwards, preventing a backward throw by opponent like tomoe nage. ==== twisting drill ==== - to do - ==== SEOI NAGE ==== 20:51 - solo seoi tai sabaki dril: normal. focus on keeping hip and head in a line. DON'T hinge foward, then stand straight as you turn, then higne forward again. stay on balls of feet. 22:38 - solo seoi tai sabaki drill: outside step
