I visited Zimbabwe in 1990 as the guest of the late Sally Mugabe. One Saturday morning I visited the central market in Harare and got relating to the market people who treated me to thismagical song. We all soon started dancing and I can only describe what happened next as a spiritual experience. It was as if I had been transported deep into the bosom of my ancestors to a sphere beyond the present, there to see the vast history of my people stretching endlessly into the past and future. I went home floating on ether. I am from the African diaspora.

i had the same exact experience on a camping trip along the Zambezi valley , we sang this song under a huge baobab tree throughout the night and the feeling I got was beyond words.

@@TENBALZ I am so happy that someone else can validate my experience by an experience of their own instead of the first comment which was somewhat mocking. It is not always easy for our brothers and sisters on the continent to understand the full psychic dimensions of descendants from the far flung African diaspora. The power of the experience I had helped define the Africa of my ancestors for me a d has stayed with me ever since.

Music truly transcends nationalities or cultures you were born in. If you feel it, you feel it. I can relate to what you're saying because, I feel the same when I listen to South American music even though I was born and raised where this song comes from.

Thank you Realotherealest, I did gather the spiritiual character f the song. I was told though that Mondhoro was the Great Lion, which I guess must refer to royalty. I most defiitely had a siritual experience listening to it for the first time. What amazed me was its power to bring out the smile in everyone around, the spread of a sort of joy, its resonating in mystic tinkling tones that evoke some sort of otherworldliness. It is this that I was originally trying describe. Perhaps it would take someone from the African diaspora to understand the kind of mystic power of longing and remembrance that Africa can evoke in those of its sons and daughters who have been fortunate enough to know its history,
@enockchagaga6833
@enockchagaga6833 Жыл бұрын
Awesome. Someone from Africa who would have been fortunate enough to know its history, is also fortunate enough to be a liberal African, who can not only understand mystic power, but also live their future propelled of the same knowledge. The song is best lived out as an experience of life to be understood, than be explained by articulation of words.

I don’t think that’s true, Kenneth Chigodora and Robson Band had two very different voices. Kenneth’s voice was hypernasal and Robson’s voice quite flat. That’s Robson Banda on lead vocals. And also remember most of these yesteryear musicians never used to collaborate, aive mazvake-mazvake
