Hi vegs a not all healthy beans legumes tomatoes and all nite shades are very bad for your micro organisms take a hit in your gut especially grains witch are loaded with glisafate roundup must eat organic. I think 20 percent protein 60 percent healthy fat and 20 percent complex carbs good luck ps drink lots of good mineral water 💧

Thank you both for your dedication to nephrology, unfortunately I was stage 4 and facing transplant before I really cut back my diet. I’m 6’4” from Louisiana and we love high sodium, high protein animal foods here. It has been very hard to split a steak in 2 and load up on veggies but since doing so I feel much better and my blood pressure has dropped. I kinda wish my nephrologist had set me down and set me straight 2 years ago. Instead he just reads my labs to me every 6 months and says everything holding steady, see you in 6 months. He sent me to talk to dialysis center and they are the ones that gave me info on kidney diets. It’s great people like you that are helping people manage their pkd and I thank you very much. I’m pre dialysis and fixing to head to Baylor in Dallas to start the transplant journey. Hopefully all goes well and I get my life back.

The discussion of plant-based diets has not taken into account diabetics who are sensitive to carbohydrates of ALL kinds. Every legume spikes my glucose levels... I do have CKD but I am caught between the two issues. Protein does not raise blood sugar levels and has cut my insulin resistance and needs for mealtime insulin as well as my long-acting insulin is cut by 60 percent on low carbs not to mention blood pressure from an average of 170 to 115 and 22 ponds in weight loss a1c 6 5🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

The quality and quantity of proteins is determined by the source of amino acids which are the constituents of protein cells . A single protein cell is made from a polypeptide chain of all the amino acids. Food sources comprising of the highest quality and quantity of amino acids will give you the best supply of proteins.

Here's some questions: is there a test to find out if your allergic to tofu / soy? I heard someone couldn't find out why they kept spilling protein in urine because they were eating minimal protein. Ended up being an allergic to tofu/soy & that caused it? Thoughts on taking a complete amino acid powder / drink? Does that count as part of our protein content? They usually don't label how much protein it has? Could we start taking one of these in our early stages of kidney disease like stage 2 / 3a and live offer a lower protein diet? Would that help preserve kidney function longer without losing our lean body mass (muscles) say like 0.4 g/kg/day of protein? Are there prescriptions for something like this or do we just get it at the health food store? How do we choose a quality product? Do these amino acids / keto-analog supplements put added stress on the kidneys when it gets broken down by our liver and kidney or since it's not directly protein does it not add to the load? Is there less nitrogenous waste? What are ketoanalogues? Albutrix tablet / Ketorena powder How do we know how low we should go in protein? How do we know how high we can go in protein? What labs should we be looking at if we are too low or too high in protein? If I look at the guidelines it shows a 180 pound man should get 3.2 ounces - 9.3 ounces protein day if we use this formula - CKD Stages 3 - 5 - 0.28* - 0.8 g/kg/day. It's hard to get any concrete advice. My dr says don't worry about it. Pretty sure I need to worry about it. When eating plant protein how do we make sure we are getting a "complete" protein? Meaning we know plant sources of protein generally don't contain all of the 9 essential amino acids. so how do we combine plant based food items to make sure we get all our essentials thru-out the day/week. how does the renal acid load affect me by eating animal protein vs plant protein? What labs would show this? How can we find out how fast my kidney disease will progress? Any reliable methods? animal protein vs plant protein whats the difference? if they say 3 oz serving of protein for say dinner... Thats for both plant and animal protein? Does plant vs animal protein effect you differently? Can you go over the protein with creatinine urine test & ratio? What it used for? How can you fix the values? like eat less animal protein? Eat less protein in general? Other things that cause abnormal numbers? How does keto work in CKD? What protein levels should we be having? The same protein just huge amounts of fats? If we have Protein leaking in the urine how do we determine what the cause is? Lowering protein should help yea? How do you know how low to go if it's not getting better? What are all the labs we'd look at Albumin Creatinine ratio (urine test) - Under 30 mg/g is normal for the raio. There should be none in urine when kidneys are functioning correctly. What are Normal range of creatatine in the urine? What are Normal range of Albumin in the urine? What can we do to make these numbers better? What effects it the most? What can we do do get our BUN down? Is it mainly just affected by the protein we eat? If we've rules out not taking antiobiotics, stomach or intestional bleeding? How many days does it take to see an effect in labs after change in diet? Thanx guys. Gobbling up every episode. Love it Came at the perfect time.

How many grams/Kg protein would you suggest for someone who does not have kidney “disease,” but technically it’s “mild kidney damage” because eGFR is 85 (all other labs are good and no protein in urine). I realize that’s a dream eGFR for many pple here but I do have friends my age (mid 50’s) with eGFR over 100. I’m female with no health problems but I do lift weights and would like the max safe amount of protein to build muscle, but preserve or reverse some of the damage that’s starting. I do eat all plant-based. Thank you in advance. Love your videos ❤️
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth 11 ай бұрын
Hello! CKD Stage 1-2 which is an eGFR < 90 but over 60 and with no proteinuria, the recommendation is generally to avoid excessive protein intake of more than 1.2 g/kg. This can obviously vary from person to person, but that is a general guideline to go off of. And of course, choosing minimally processed plant proteins over animal protein will help.

For example, if you weigh 100 pounds, that is 45.45 kg (100/2.2). 45.45 kg x 0.8 grams protein per kg body weight = 36 grams of protein/day. 1 ounce of meat, chicken, fish or egg is ~ 7 grams of protein.

Interesting and confusing!. Other studies indicate that plants doesn't like being eaten and because they can't run away! - they instead have defence mechanisms such as lectins, oxalates ... These plant defences result in the gut microbiome not being able to efficiently absorb the available nutrients compared to that in meat. Thus on a plant based diets you need higher quantities to get the optimum nutrients. The body cannot efficiently get some nutrients from plants compared to meat - ie B12 - need synthetic alternatives. How is protein from meat causing more inflammation in the kidneys compared to protein from plants? There appears to be an assumption that the proteins from meat are not being digested and absorbed and the proteins are being absorbed 'unchanged' and passes from the gut to the blood surrounding the gut and then to the liver and finally to the kidneys where they are causing inflammation - resulting in the protein 'leaking' out of the blood in the kidneys. Note: not all blood is filtered as it passes the kidneys - various estimates only 15% or less is actually diverted from the blood vessel into the kidney for filtering on each pass. This suggests if the meat protein is the cause then a small level is having a significant affect? I think there are still a lot of unknowns here and there are too many assumptions being made which need to be validated .

We have some episodes on protein supplements that you can check out! But we generally don't recommend protein shakes for stages 3-5 that are on lower protein diets to help preserve kidney function. It is usually easy to get plenty of protein from whole, plant foods :)

Any type of protein is bad for kidneys but red meat is the worst. Basically, CKD has no cure at all but its progress can be slowed down moderatly.

You can usually get all the amino acids you need from your diet, but we do have a video on amino acid supplements and kidney disease....for someone without kidney disease though, you may be fine taking it. You will want to check with your physician/renal dietitian so they can review your health and needs and make an individualized recommendation!

Leafy vegetables are great to have in the diet. There are so many options depending on a person's individual potassium needs. Spinach is a higher potassium leafy green while kale, arugula and collard greens are lower in potassium.

God forbid someone needs to increase their muscle mass and decides to do some strength training. It's nearly impossible to do so when only consuming .6 gr/kg of protein. Nephs and renal dieticians never talk about this. And because ckd patients are at high risk of heart disease, how can they maintain caloric intake if their cardiologist recommends dialing way back on the fat intake? Yes, I'm including the so called "healthy" oils.

To go from pounds to kilograms you divide weight in lbs by 2.2. So for example, 150 lbs divided by 2.2 is 68.18 kg. Then you can use your weight in kg to estimate protein needs! :)

Thank you for these videos. I have been underweight/extremely high metabolism my whole life and recently found the only thing that helps me gain weight is bodybuilding. I weightlift 3 times a week and everyday try to eat 2000cal/100 g of protien. I’ve only ever used organic non gmo plant protien powders but PKD runs in my family. I’ve gotten ct scans for appendicitis and found I have some cysts.. I don’t have any other symptoms and I’m really healthy, only eat organic grass fed food. Is this lifestyle going to lead me to kidney failure? I feel stuck like I have to choose between progressing my cyst growth with a high protien diet and finally being a healthy weight and happy with my body 🥲

If you have pkd it will progress by itself no matter how well you take care of them. Mine didn’t emerge till late 30’s. Just live your life and get yearly check ups and monitor your kidney function. Hopefully it skipped you. Unfortunately I didn’t really care until it was too late. My first symptoms where unusual high blood pressure for a normally healthy person. Good luck
