One of my packs is partially shutting down. My throttle display shows that it's still active but when I trust the throttle, it pulses and then stops. I can maybe get movement of I feather it down a hill but as soon as I have to come to a stop, I can't take off again. I checked all my connections and have confirmed that it's not a problem with my controller or motor. Would this likely be a BMS issue?

I have a 48v folding ebike 1 year old. It started shutting off randomly recently. It is at or near full volts when it does this. I can open the folding part up and close it and everything is back to normal. Ride a little way and it shuts off again. I opened the battery case up and everything looks like new. check voltage and holds at 53.1 volts. Scratching my head. I guess maybe the bms?
@peppapig21123 жыл бұрын
My 52V battery (14s4p), despite the fact that I have set 41V as the cut off Voltage, actually shuts all off (display included) when it reaches 48V ish. I have opened it up to inspect and I found neither corrosion nor evident physical damage. The only thing is one group of parallel reads 2,6V while all the other group read 3,3. It's because one group has gone below the BMS cut off voltage that it shut down, I believe. All this has happened after charging (twice) the battery @100% in order to let the bms balance the group of parallels. Do you think that if I replace that parallel group I will fix the issue?could it be one o two cells of that low voltage group badly welded leaving the other cells bearing most of the job and so depleting faster ?

My ebike battery has a rare problem. It is a 48v 20ah. It works perfectly for a few hours and when the display still reads 75% charged it suddenly dies and turns off everything including the display. When I get home and test the battery with my multimeter it read 36volt. I charged the battery for a few minutes and reads 51v again. Use it for a few meters and turns off again and the multimeter reads 36v. What do you think is the problem?
@doit_vehicles5 жыл бұрын
It happened exactly the same thing on this battery . There are two possible situation either some cells are disconnected or the capacity of one group of cells or all battery is low and the power will drop faster after full charge . Also the fast charging you describe sounds like there is a capacity or connction betwen the cells issue .

Great video and explanation! My battery just died on my ebike, I suspect it is the BMS and some faulty cells. I opened it up and there is corrosion on the metal strips connecting the terminals and on all the wire soldering points so i suspect the whole unit was messing up the BMS. I am going to test each cell with a volt meter and then decide whether to toss it or try to fix individual cells. Unfortunately I bought a cheaper battery and there is no plastic frame work holding the cells together just paper and lots of hot glue. Do you have a recommendation for a supplier of good quality batteries for my unit.
@doit_vehicles6 жыл бұрын
I understand ... First find out what model of batteris do you have . Like in that video its a " dolphin case " type . I personally make my own batteries and I dont buy e-bike batteries from sellers since as you mentioned they are not good quality in meny situatiions ; so unfortunately I can't recommend anyone . So depending of how much you wanna invest in your e-bike , the best option is to build a spare battery by yourself in the same case as the "stock one " is ! Might be an investment at the beggining but in a long run you'll save money doing so . Whatever you chose look on aliexpress for things you need ; fron my experience I got good quality "as described " stuff from that website.

Hi, thank a lot for your informative stuff. My 52V battery got wet in heavy rain and my ebike display died. Battery won't charge anymore. Charging terminals voltage read 45V (same as the display shown voltage at the time of the rainy event), while discharging terminals read 24 V. Does that mean that only the BMS is at fault?
@doit_vehicles5 жыл бұрын
Hi ! Check the discharge terminals without the bms , that will tell if only the bms got damged . If you find 45 v just replace the bms and you should be good to go . Also check the voltage of each parallel group , it should be around 3.5 volts each , or at least equal betwen each other .

@theyoutubeguy15453 жыл бұрын
Leave it on your charger for a day or so to reset your BMS. Because it’s been sitting so long your voltage most likely dropped too low so your BMS shut itself off, so no “juice” to the batteries. Or depending on your charger type it might be unable to read such a low voltage, Therefore it won’t start the charging process. I’m not an expert but it’s what I’ve heard when researching my own better pack issues

Was wondering is there a grease I can use on the charger port to bring that piece back to life ? It's a little corroded because like I said couple of drops of water fell in there . I'm not sure though if I apply the grease like dielectric or something as simple as Vaseline if Its dangerous .
@shonevans25635 жыл бұрын
I've seen videos of people using grease on car batteries for corrosion issues . But not sure if that would work in my case . Don't know how to swap out the charger port piece just figured I could do a quick fix like swab the area with grease so the corrosion won't get worse and stop the sparking issue.

Hello, what happen for example if my battery has 3300 mah cells and I replace 4 faulty cell with 3400 mah but same voltage? Would it have any problem?Thanks
@doit_vehicles4 жыл бұрын
Good question . Since the difference is not that significant it won't hurt anything in a short term . But over time if let's say thoose 4 cells are 4000 mah than they will always tend to have a higher voltage than the rest of the cells while discharging ; so that will confuse the bms while charging / discharging causing it to heat up / burn or shut down the charging option . Also thoese cells will always tend to charge up the lower capacity ones and that will show on your battery level indicator a lot of up and downs while cycling .

I tried to wire my e bike from an chinese manufactured controller. They don't tell you which wires to connect the battery to. I think I shorted it. I don't know where the fuse is either. the battery is dead now and I am not sure whether there is a fuse to replace it or whether to get a new battery. Also the control box wires without a guide to connect them are a problem. Any ideas?
@doit_vehicles5 жыл бұрын
Hi . The battery should be fine as long as it was not directly shorted ; the only thing that shoud be fried is that controler . On some batteries the fuse is inside and not changeable from the exterior ; so you will need to open ot up and see . Is a good idea to check for wiring diagrams from the seller before buying a controler / or get the controler from where you got the bike ... Hi, I got this ebike battery, 4 years old, not used much (less than 100 charge cycles), but recently failed to hold charge after letting it sit for the winter. 1. After plugging the battery to the charger, the charging light turned from red to green (indicating full charge) within a few minutes. This wasn't the case before when the battery was charging/running fine. I measured the output of the charger with a meter and it's 41V. 2. Upon charging (eg 8hrs) the bike would run and the LCD controller displaying full bars for a couple minutes and then shut off all of a sudden, restarting the controller would only get the bike to run for a few seconds and eventually it won't start again. Battery seems completely drained. Any idea on what could be wrong and steps to troubleshoot? Thanks.
@doit_vehicles5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like the cells are "dead" and they can not hold the charge . However after a winter of storage they should drain to completely 0 . What is the total voltage of the battery? Should be betwen 30 and 42 volts . If its much less than 30 v than the battery is damaged . You might also try to charge the parallel groups individually with 4.2 volts and see if it holds tge charge . Depending of what's the quality of the cells , it might be possible to revive them if charged individually / parallel groups Also the bms is not usually made to charge a 36 v nominal voltage battery from lets say 10 volts up to 42 v - fully charged . That' why the only thing you can do is to charge the parallel groups or bypass the bms and directly apply 42 volts from the charger to the battery .
@doit_vehicles5 жыл бұрын
And if you manage to "revive" the battery it will have less range than before ..

That's strange . It's hard to guess without having the battery in front of me , but I would do the followings : 1) Visually inspect all the solderings and spot weldings 2) Measure the voltage of paralel groups of cells and compare them .. 3) If you have a charger that do the discharge test , do the charge / discharge test of each parallel group and see if they are ok 4) Try to charge the battery without BMS directly on the battery terminals 5) Make sure that there are no short circuits or wrong connection .. 6 ) Make sure that the charger is giving 58 v to the battery .. 7) In the worst case , you must disassambley the whole battery and double check all the cells individually to test them if they charge / discharge I should probabily make a video about these things ..

Also after removing the old conectors try the battery if it does charge with the conectors removed .. find out what is causing the shortcircuit ? Maybe it was a piece of metal inside the conector or some wires got disconnected inside the battery and touches other wires ...
