E-bike vs Normal MTB. Which is faster CHAINLESS?

I take part in a chainless mountain bike race at the WCRC in Riverhead Auckland. I race both my KTM Prowler E bike and my Transition Sentinel both with chains removed. Find out which is faster.

I think what might have been happening on the jumps is the ebike made you naturally "racer" the jumps easier. The heavier frame reducing the transfer of your energy upwards by the suspension compressing more resulting in less of an arc through the air and a straighter, faster line.

That sounds like a good theory, but I am not sure it is correct. The KTM certainly got more height on the jumps, and in my experience, this is true for most jumps. The difference was small overall. Could it simply be that the ktm had a better suspension platform and handled the jumps better? There are so many variables. We did this test at 440 with a group of us, except we could pedal. Some were faster on the e bike while others were faster on the steam bike. It's not as simple as just heavier bikes. Interesting stuff either way. Thanks for the feedback.

@@bestdayevermtb2 yea its definitely not as simple as weight alone. What I said assumes both bikes have the same travel, at the same sag and damping. In that scenario the suspension would compress slightly more before transferring the upward force to your body, giving you a more racer effect over the jump. Of course there are a lot of other variables like what you do as the rider by either popping or pushing through the lip, also tire tread differences, pressure, compound. There's a lot of variables. Whatever the reasons, the fact you jumped faster does, if your were landing in the same spot, mean you were flying lower and straighter.

Hello ,Ebike is 10kg heavier ,which means it will descend faster ,many pro Downhill riders strap excess weight to there bikes to make them faster

You are correct that some downhillers add weights to their bikes but no more than 500grams. Certainly not 10kg. Explain how Jackson Goldstone at 65kg can win hard line against much heavier riders on a track with no pedaling and high speed jumps. At the very end of the video I show the bikes are actually identical for the first two thirds of the track. The only difference was the jump section.

KTM certainly the faster bike. Every Jump you were further on the KTM.Mind you I have always mainted that your KTM floats through the air so less rolling resistance
