Her performance is extraordinary. She was around the age of eighty one! It's so beautifully played and she has that extra quality that makes you want to sit up and listen. Thanks you Ida for many many years of listening pleasure. May you now RIP.

Just loved every second of watching and listening to Ida Haendel play "Nigun" which means improvisation. I have played this piece over 1000 times in warming up since the 9th grade when I played it at my graduation from Junior high to High school in Massachusetts. It keeps me physically in shape on my violin. Ms. Haendel still has it!! Amazing! I studied Nigun with Eric Rosenblith and George Neikrug. The genius of Ernest Bloch and musicians bringing this piece to life.

Likewise. There is no one else who plays like Ida or who ever will. I fear that era of musicians has gone forever. She was remarkable and we are so so lucky to be able to access her music through KZbin. Her pianist is a perfect partner to her playing. He understands her that is clear. He is extraordinarily talented. I wish my mother were here now and know how my love for the violin (her instrument) has become so strong. We are so fortunate to have had musicians such as these (and there are not many). It makes our lives richer.

She reminds me my grandmother so much, that makes me wanna cry. I love her playing and I admire this woman so deeply. I hope someday I can play at least half of what she did this lifetime.

I would not try to describe this playing just that I have heard nothing like it and probably never will. And yes, tears poured down my face. Even if I did not have a connection to the Jewish religion, this performance would make anyone and everyone feel what this group of people at a certain time in history went through. Nothing like it. Thank you Ms Haendel. Your violin will be with you wherever you are. You are the violin.

@jasmine543210 Her intonation on some of the octaves is so shockingly pure, that you cannot tell they are double stops. She is emphasizing the lower note of the octaves as we are usually taught to do, but they are double stops. Very frankly, when one takes into account the combination of musicianship and technique, I don't think there are *any* violinists under the age of 40 who play at the level exhibited here.

@bobbo00009 Yes, the octaves are pure and perhaps we cannot tell the difference between the two notes, but the listener wouldn't necessary know that and I think the performer has to play in a way that allows the listener to hear the original composition. Also, there are plenty of fine violinists who play Nigun just as well: Kogan, Stern, Perlman. Haendel is a great performer, but her technique has diminished with age, like many great violinists, and to fail to realise this is to deny reality :)

Your initial comment was wrong: "Why does Haendel play some of the notes an octave lower...". "A very good performance for someone her age" was very patronising, as was the addtional comment;"no way the best", which becomes subjective and was quite unnecessary.
@MrFpam12 жыл бұрын
You mentioned other fine violinists and suggested I should hear them before dismissing your comments. I have heard many more than you (some of them live) as a musician and musiclover for more than 50years. Kogan is especially good. I have posted many on Facebook.None of this detracts from Haendel's fine perfoemance. As a teenager, especially a supposedly educated one, you should be wary of criticising great artists or commenting on their technique.

Why cant yall just enjoy the good music?
@jasmine54321012 жыл бұрын
I said in my comment that 'Haendel is a great performer', didn't I, how is that 'dismissive'? I'm not badmouthing this fantastic violinist but merely stating the obvious: that with old age technical proficiency reduces, I'm sure Haendel herself would acknowledge that. Besides, as you said, the question of who is best is a 'futile' topic to discuss, but of course a way of sparking debate and also of introducing people to other fine performers, who you should hear before dismissing my comments
@jasmine54321013 жыл бұрын
Why does Haendel play some of the notes an octave lower than the original??? Also, the accompanist seems to be out of time with Haendel occasionally (oh dear). A very good performance for someone her age, but in no way the best performance.
How sad that as an "educated teenager" you are so misinformed, and above all critical and superior. The question of who is best is subjective and a futile topic of discussion. Haendel was and still is at this point a great violinist with much to offer and you are unfairly dismissive of her. You obviously still have much to learn!
