This reminds me of The Polar Express when the kid on the train pulled the emergency brake so the other kid can get on! The conductor was like pissed off the with him! 😂

It's not a button on new trains. It is still a cord that is routed through a computer system that will only stop a train right away if it's within station limits. If the cord is pulled between stations, the train will not go into emergency until the train is in the next station and the doors open.

Back in the 90s someone pull that break on a r26 . My cousin friend had a door key to open the door. He told us that once an emergency break is pull for this kind of train, you waiting about 30 minutes. So we got out the train and walked the tunnel to the next station. #7 under water tunnel to Manhattan. This is an old tunnel with no clearance. So we ran of course.

At one of the MTA Videos, they say the ememergency brake should NEVER be pulled. Unless its a actual emergency, but if you were standing instead of sitting down, you will fall down.

Depending on the speed of the train there would be a domino effect but severe injury would occur if the train is on the express track doing 30-45 MPH

"When the emergency brakes activate on a train, the time it takes to stop can be relative to the train's speed, sometimes covering the length of a football field. The initial action by the train crew is to notify the Rail Control Center (RCC) using call letters and the departure time from the terminal. The RCC then prompts the train to state their message meaning whats the emergency or message they want to tell them the R.C.C ask the train crew to detail events before and after the Brake-Initiated Emergency (B.I.E). Subsequently, the RCC directs the master tower to pause service, instructs the operator to secure their cab and inspect the roadbed for the cause of the issue. Meanwhile, the conductor informs customers of the delay. Once the operator identifies the cause, they report back to the RCC. The RCC then decides whether to suspend subway service due to potential police assistance or requests the presence of a Traction Power Supervisor (T.P.S) at the location where the brakes were activated for further investigation to prevent reoccurrence. The RCC advises the following train to operate cautiously in the affected area and report any conditions to the RCC promptly. Following this, the RCC signals the master tower to resume regular subway service."

Lets just say that your train will be delayed for the next 45 minutes
