I have trained dogs my entire life, only on verbal commands! After my best friend, Tahoe (lab, worked only for affection) died, we adopted a mixed breed... lab, shepherd, and chow! He has destroyed our rental house, inside and out! Our furniture is in ruins, the carpet has at least six 4x4" holes chewed out, and our once-beautiful backyard has no grass! This is 10 months! I'm faced with a terrible situation, replace all the damage only to have it destroyed again, or get rid of our destroyer that we have all come to love. E-collar to the rescue...but I didn't take it lightly. I committed myself to watching hours on proper use, and I am mandating that my kids do the same! This video series is the BEST!!! I love that it teaches the operator how to effectively use the tool! Used effectively and with good instruction, this tool has seriously saved a dog! In less than 24 hours, he is responding first to my voice; if that doesn't work, I give the beep. He has yet to be shocked at even low levels..and I have used vibrate twice...both times when the squirrel in the tree was taunting him! With this video series and an e-collar, I have so much faith in our boy! His confidence is boosting... instead of being yelled at, he is getting nothing but praise! I can walk him for a block now, off leash with no issues! I just needed a way to get his attention, LOL! I'm wondering if it would work for my 12-y/o son???? Just kidding, but the videos along with the tool have turned a really bad dog into a dog that wants to please!

That dog needed corrections and tools WAY SOONER...many dogs are put down every day because of positive onlly garbage...glad you re-thought your beliefs.....as you know NOW.....every dog is different and many/most need a tool and proper, safe, well timed and meaningful corrections! Safety is #1...always!

Great video! Thanks for making it. Just to be clear, I see these 4 situations. Situation 1: Dog is away from you. Tap tap > Name + Command > Dog comes, reward Situation 2: Dog is away from you. Tap tap > Dog comes, reward Situation 3: Dog is with you. Walk in 1 direction, do a 180 > Tap tap > Dog follows, reward Situation 4: Dog is with you. Walk in 1 direction, back up > Tap tap > Name + Command > Dog follows, reward

I'm sure you hear this all the time, but i wanted to tell you how very much I appreciate you and your videos! My boys are great in every way except for their reactivity on walks and I truly believe with your help I can correct it! You have a wonderful talent of training dogs, and are seemingly very personable while doing it - rare in the field so I've seen! THANK YOU!

Really great that you help us other trainers with these tips. My young Collie is now sitting by moving traffic just using the bleep warning on her e collar. I learnt loads from watching your conditioning videos. My girl works on a level one :) With distraction ,level 3 . Her traffic lunging was severe and fear based but she is so much better already . Great job Larry : )

I am glad to hear this! We have a young Aussie who does the same thing and we just ordered the e collar to try and help!
@LauraHopkinsCDL7 жыл бұрын
I am stunned by the results with my Border Collie but I can't stress enough to do the collar conditioning. The collar I bought was expensive and the more levels you have the less severe it will be. Zed works on level one ,which no human can feel.If being stubborn and wanting to lunge maybe a 3. Never needed higher. I do use the pager bleep most of the time now and that is enough. I had her sat on the pavement during the school run. A bicycle went a foot in front of her and she stayed in her sit stay as told. Good luck :) . It will work .
@britaneeburns3717 жыл бұрын
Thank you! If you don't mind my asking, how did you use the collar to counter those behaviors? We are working on heel with her which is incredibly hard for her outside even with a high value treat (like boiled chicken). She is super food motivated and incredibly smart and has been through traditional training classes. We are working on strengthening the commands we learned in class (sit, stay, heel, come when called, etc) and we ordered the collar as an additional tool to help her reactivity to literally anything that moves but I am not sure how to use the collar to curb the desire to chase cars, bicycles, people, etc.

Hi Larry, great video! I wanted to know how you teach the drop it command to a dog that is VERY intent on holding on to a toy? I have tried the whole "make the toy boring" technique, but my dog will simply keep tugging and/or start adjust her bite closer and closer to my hands and she has learned that this will result in me pulling back or letting go. I'm not sure if Emmy releases on command, but if not, can you please put out a video showing how you teach her? Thanks!!

Simple use two toys. I love using 2 balls to teach a dog out if they can not be taught in another more basic fashion. When the dogs releases...command OUT AUS, Mark it present other toy. But when you completely isolate a toy or tug and do not allow a dog to tug (immobilize) tug they all release it. Michael Ellis has a great video on tug play and teaches this method. No fun in something that can not be tugged or thrashes.

I’ve started conditioning my golden retriever, Krig. I started with a leash inside and he caught on pretty quickly. So quickly that now, without a leash, a double tap gets him to immediately look at me, with a happy look on his face, as if to say “What do you want me to do?“ I don’t keep it on him outside of the training sessions so there’s times in the house when he doesn’t have a collar on and he’s out of his crate and I generally ask him to come and he’s slow to respond. Should I be keeping the collar on him all the time?
@philipschlabs19295 жыл бұрын
Larry, I really enjoy watching your methods. I've implemented many into my training with my 6mo pup. I see the effectiveness of your ecollar training, but how can I do this without the tap tap of the collar?

I have been watching your videos all afternoon and this one caught my attention !! We have just rescued a 8 month old Male Neutered Boxer who is showing major Fear... If he hears a loud noise it ruins any fun we are having. He has actually lost his bowls just meeting my senior parents. I have been longing to use the E Collar but have held off with my own fear that the sound or tingle may cause more problem. Any more videos that you have that can help me with this, I really would love to watch. Love your plan English if you know what I mean. Thank You !!

Hello Larry. I just bought a TBI E Collar for my male Rhodesian Ridgeback named Wendell. Do you know what setting you would set the shock at???? It goes from 0 to 99. My instructions don't say anything about the shock intensity. I don't want to set it too high and hurt my dog. I just ran across your videos and they are great and will start watching them. Wendell is also fearful, but puts on aggressive front that I am trying to get a handle on. He is 15 months old and 70 pounds. Sincerely, John Nimmo Fresno, Ca.

the make of the E collar makes all the difference, E technologies make the best(mini educator is popular) with bungee collar. Read up on the technology in their collars. Problem with most other collars is the stimulation level ( put it in your hand) a lot of them you can feel on level 1 and that's no good

Dose the e coller shock them?
@WhEE4434 жыл бұрын
Good question. If it is at a high level it does feel like that. However the way Larry trains and the way everyone should be training is at very low levels. To start, you set the level at the minimum perceivable setting that the dog can feel. For instance my dog feels it at a 3 out of 100, but when I put it on my wrist, I can’t feel it until around 14. And even then the sensation is sort of like a tapping or a tingle. So the important thing is introducing them to the sensation at a very low level and teaching the meaning of it. Look at how this super fearful skiddish dog reacts to the e collar. Do you think he would look like that if he was being shocked? He’s having a pretty good time I’d say.

Hi Larry. I bought your book on E-Collar Training. I have a 9-week old Malinois. Can I begin the Conditioning Phase now? Or is there an age you prefer we start? I will be purchasing the Mini Educator that you recommend. $180 seems excessive but at the end of the day a well trained dog is worth the investment.

Your videos are great but I think you’ll find way too technical for the average dog owner. I have three dogs. A pitadore perfectly behaved. A 12 year old Husky, no problem. An 18 month husky who is ADD, fire, wild. Nothing you teach here is doable with her. Unless of course you can get her off the chandeliers where she’s swinging. There’s no sense of even watching you. This puppy is a totally wild bronco.
