Love how you described using negative reinforcement to close the gap between you and the dog FIVE years ago...yet trainers on social media coming out with these "new" methods like "reverse perception method" or other names-that is literally just this! I love how you keep things simple and don't over complicate things-espexially because owners really need it to be kept simple if they're going to succeed ❤

I will put this out. The e-collar works with fearfuls because it tells them "They do not have to make a difficult decision." Once the confusion clears, they become comftable with the direction they are being given. Then we can take them forward. It appears to help socialization in new enviornments. I think they feel a relief at times , so they are less prone to panic. Of course no resarch has been done on this. I am not sure it can be. We would have to do brain activity studies during the time it is being used. Not sure that is possible. Anyway. My experience. It is almost like a gentle touch. I am not sure how to pen this. Goes deeper than words. TY for the video.

Very true. Hopefully Ivan gets some studies going....but the crap studies they usually do are NOTHING like the nuances of this...they just light dogs up without any foundation and measure cortisol levels in that confused aroused mindset, which is so inaccurate! I think it's becoming more recognizable now though 😊

Fabulous presentation Larry and everything explained in layman's terms. I think you truly understand the psychology of the dog as evidenced over and over in your videos. Great idea to talk about these types of dog personalities and the philosophy behind what turns them around!

Larry thank you so much for helping people like myself that cannot afford any kind of training I have been trying to train my dog myself and he knows his basic commands but he really won't mind me much I am 70 so I don't play with him too much he only has a small fenced-in part of a one and a half acre lot to play in in the back of the house he is a German Shepherd part Saint Bernard mix he got loose in the front yard which is recessed back in a very rule area very very recessed back probably a whole acre with a major highway in front of us with three lanes of traffic on each side he would not come back to me I couldn't chase him he went wild he wouldn't come back no matter what I did I asked my other son to buy me an e-collar but it broke instantly so he sent it back just so that I could shock him in case this ever happened again but he ran into the major highway my other son was at home fortunately and ran after him traffic was stopped on 6 Lanes because of my dog and all I could do was scream because my dog and my son were both in the major traffic what can I do to stop him from breaking loose from the front door again without an e-collar to stop him thank you for so much of your wonderful advice

Ok. Superb explanations Larry. Really helpful in getting insight about how the ecollar stimulation is likely working with the dog's thinking. Remembering the confusion/disruption/self-control that happens when the collar is used correctly, opens up understanding for a myriad of applications, including simple obedience. Thanks.

I remember Mango, you hit her once at around 50-70 where she tended to bite another dog when competing for a toy and she loses. She got irritated and bit your other dog, I think it was Luca? You zapped her once, she yelped, and you swore she would never turn to aggression again after losing a competition.

Very well explained Larry. Thanks so much for taking the time to make these very beneficial videos. I just wish others would not abuse the e collar as when used correcty dogs are happy and can run free. Great job. Thanks again : )

We have a very energetic young lab who we have just started using an e collar on, and she is very smart -she has tried to take the remote and knows that we are using it on her. i'm guesing we are obviously using it wrong... We are particulary trying to focus on her biting as she has bit me all up and down both my arms/hands . seems like over excited playing, but leading to aggressive... we would like her to stop tearing up things left and right too but I am afraid she is getting really confused, and it seems to do the oppisite. We almost always use the beep followed by vibrate for everything. occasionally when its gotten really bad or is life threatening (running into the road, or a field of steers) we have used the shock portion on low, but the last few days it doesnt register it seems. You're not even close to being ready for an e collar and are going to make things worse. Basic obedience and building a relationship using positive reinforcement is what you need to establish first. The dog doesn't respect you at all and you are giving it too much freedom if it's tearing things up and biting you. Keep a collar and leash or long line on the dog at all times so you can give a correction (pop) at the exact moment the dog is doing something wrong, simultaneously saying no. Offer the dog something suitable to chew on if it's biting and chewing things. Similarly , give the dog praise or a reward when it's doing a behavior you want to see more of. Only when the dog FULLY understands the basic commands, then you can watch Larry's introduction to e collar videos and start to apply those steps. You are doing exactly what Larry doesn't want people to do with an e collar. Please start with basic obedience and give your dog a fair chance.

I think along the same lines. If you punish (ecollar or no ecollar) aggressive behavior you are only addressing the symptom and not the problem. I also apply a hands off approach when it comes to those dogs that are very aggressive as it only causes more conflict for the dog. You use a very common sense approach to dog training and there isn't enough of us like that out there. I do understand scientific terms as well as psychological terms but I prefer to keep it simple stupid because the client has a lot to learn already why add more to it.

In this video at 14:31 minutes, you talk about if the dog is aggressive, most people will shock/fry them at that time...you say that it's only a temporary fix and does not work in the long run. You don't mention how to handle it at that time (if one dog attacks the other suddenly). What should someone do at that point to stop the fight?

Larry I really appreciate this video, but I do have one question for you. When using the e-collar to assist in fear aggression towards humans, I note that you use the continuous button until the dog turns to move towards the person that they fear being you that is holding the remote. How would this then translate if the dog is fearful of lots of humans especially when out and about and these so called humans attempt to pat the fearful dog? If she starts growling at them, would you start the e-collar and stop it when they are able to pat her? Thank you, I sincerely appreciate your help.

First sensitize the dog for remote collar that is every.. I mean it... Every pulse means look at me and listen to my voice....focus on what you're being told...when dog does that you praise and give it treats......then expose that dog where he's most likely to fail, then slowly train around his triggers....to listen to you around triggers....it's all positive association........then when dog has understood the meaning of pulses take him to vet....then again when the fearful dog is about to react...you give pulse....and redirect it to you.......if it still doesn't listen....act of God....

Larry: Your videos are amazing. The dogs that I've seen you work with have changed like 180 degrees. Now I'd like to see how you work with women that have dogs that are totally out of control ie. pulling cutting in front of you, all the while basically being outpowered in strength between dog and women. Also you need to have a cover over your microphone so a the wind doesn't cut your voice out, as it's so hard to hear what you have to say in your training. Please keep up the good work. Thanks LizG

If I interpret correctly, Robert Cabral and others advise to block or correct at the moment the dog's interest is heightened and then provide the exit from the stimulation. Sean O'shea, Gooddog training, had a great video with the Ecollar. Walking a pitbull, he stimmed the dog precisely when its ears pricked up at the sight of another dog. The dog learned instantly not to pursue that avenue and relaxed with the handler. O'shea says "stop the reactivity at the fuse," because once the bomb goes off, it's too late.

JA Smith no. Larry Krohn swears up and down that the e-collar is an awesome tool. His beef is with people who ABUSE dogs with an e-collar, like people who zap dogs at high settings before proper training.

The e collar should ONLY be available for people who know how to use it, like you Larry, and Jamie Penrith (for example). There are far too many people out there who will only punish a dog with the e collar. How do I know? Reading the comments under the e collar video's!! Many of them are pure ridiculous, they think an e collar is some 'magic tool' who will teach the dog anything! Well, its NOT! The e collar should only be used - as a last resort - when the dog ALREADY KNOWS THE COMMAND, to UNDERSCORE the command.! But people will NOT LISTEN Larry, even you'll say that a thousand or ten thousand times. I think the e collar - in the right hands - is much more 'dog friendly' than the choke or prong collar because they choke and hurt the dog ( otherwise he will not listen, will he?) . I wish I could put those collars on those people who use them so they can feel what it's like. And believe me, I will pull very hard, just like they do on their dogs. When people buy a pup, 8 weeks old, and they need to use any of these collars when the dog is 1 year old, they are louzy 'trainers' and should own nothing more than a goldfish.
