I am not a veteran. I started wearing a mil spec boonie several years ago. I prefer OD Green or Tan colors. My experience has taught me that the boonie is the perfect hat for me to wear in any type of weather conditions. The boonie has a good fit and you don’t have to baby them because they are so durable. I have one that I have waxed, it is essentially waterproof for weather that involves heavy rain. These hats are very versatile and can be adapted to any environment.

I use Tilley hats. I get them used for as little as $20. They have more shaped crown ones but the old T3 is pretty shapeless if you take out the foam in the crown. Cotton ones dye well, but the hemp ones come in a nice brown. Have you seen the Canadian military waffle scarf? They are huge but come only in OD. I have some long Marine brown cotton scarfs but Canadian ones are wider. Their green fleece hats, neck gaiters, and balaclavas are cheap right now.

Boonies come in sizes from 6 7/8 - 7 3/4, so you should be able to find one that fits!?

Man, we have a lot in common, I’ve been wearing a boonie hat since the early 80’s . Have a collection but I have my favorites. I like the versatility with clothing items. Shirts and pants with lots of pockets. This has Been my style since the eighties . Enjoyed this video, just subbed

Hmm. How about a modified slouch hat? Webbing on the crown... high crown hook to fasten the brim on either side... chinstrap that doubles as a crown size adjuster... maybe some heavy gauge wire in the rim for durability and shaping. Whatchya think?

I have always liked boonie hats and I own several, however, the ball cap is better for me when I want to pull my hoody up or rest my head back on my head rest in the car! Everything has it’s place! I usually keep a boonie in my get home bag. I use boonies when I will be in the sun all day fishing or gardening etc…
