E-Flite Habu STS maiden with landing assist

Couple first flights with the Habu STS jet trainer.

Good video. You should have a lot more views! I bought this plane a couple months ago; have not flown it (or any plane) yet, but been practicing on the included flight simulator. Would you recommend the landing sensor, and will it work with the included stock DXs transmitter? I also have an old Ares Gamma 370 that a friend game me (I had to replace the motor mount and prop) which I plan on flying first to get a feel for flying before I risk this $400 plane. I have had R/C cars for many years including a Traxxas 4-tec that I converted to VXL and goes 70+ MPH. Weather is getting nice now and I'm getting ready to fly!

Thanks for your comment! That flight simulator is definitely a great tool to get a feel for flying. It's obviously a little different flying for real! For only 30 bucks extra I'd recommend the landing assist sensor to help with those first few landings. As an experienced RC pilot it's pretty neat how the thing works and once I got it lined up for landing I was completely hands-off on a couple of them. It's only active in beginner and intermediate mode but is deactivated in experienced mode and works best over grass. The Habu is definitely going to have some different flight characteristics versus that Ares but that should be good to get you started! Safe flights and happy landings!

If you have never flown any RC plane yet. Don't take this jet as your first approach. Big, fast-flying planes are less forgiving(even if it is marked as a trainer jet). Get the UMX sport cub s2 or UMX turbo Timber(I still fly my UMX turbo timber with another 30+ big boys in my hanger. Even my GF can fly it). Once you are familiar with flying a trainer. You may try one of their UMX jets, like the UMX A10 or Mig15. And then, when you are getting used to land a jet. Take this bird out. About a transmitter. I think the DXs is just one CH short for the landing assisted sensor(double-check with HH tech support). But if you are really getting into flying planes. Check out the Radiomaster TX16s Hall sensor version. It has a similar/a bit higher learning curve compared to Spektrum DX/NX radios. There are a lot of videos to teach you how to set up an Efilte plane with that radio. And with a way better price. $200 for a 16ch radio. Almost sounds like a fraud!

I noticed with my habu sts pnp that the nose goes up significantly when I switch it into SAFE.

Go Pro wide angle, nice flying but is hard to see the plane.

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out a better camera set up. I had the GoPro set on narrow so it was the most zoomed in I could get it. Thanks for checking it out nonetheless!

Nice! I'm waiting till Monday for my habu sts, it's in the mail. Not my first jet, but I wanted it for its flight characteristics. I did get a landing assist sensor for it(got a buddy who is going to try this jet out). My question is how fast( top speed) do you think the habu is on 4s battery.

Best guess is at least 80 mph. I unfortunately didn't get video of it but we took it up head-to-head with the 70 mm Thunderbird. Because the Habu is lighter it accelerated a lot quicker but the Thunderbird out performed on the top-end speed which I clocked at 100mph. The Habu wasn't far behind though! I'm going to try to get it up again soon with the GPS speed sensor on it.

@@Jeffroe111 sweet! Ya i have the 70mm thunderbird. Its ways cool, and ya just over100mph. Ya I really want to know how fast the habu is. No body has made a video with her top speed so that would be bad ass if you did the GPS thing!😎👍💯

We always check the CG. If you look closely in the beginning there's two black dots on top of the wing where the CG was marked. My dad also likes to try things by the book (as you can hear him say in the beginning it said to push the one battery all the way forward) and a few times the book has been wrong with CG placement on some of our other planes, so it may have been nose heavy but that's certainly more manageable than tail heavy so we went with it on the maiden. I think this one was a combination of trim and battery placement. I have a number of other videos of us flying this one and we never had that issue again.

They kept it simple with no flaps and no retracts but the envelope on this thing is impressive! It'll go fast on a 4S and come in soft and slow. It's a fun one for sure!

How about some zoom guys. Otherwise it was a nice view of the clouds. I don't understand why people who do these videos don't understand that looking at a dot in the sky is not entertaining you can't see a damn thing. I'm gone.

The GoPro doesn't zoom. It was mounted on my forehead. We understand, we just work with what we got. ✌

@@Jeffroe111 sorry about that Jeff. You should have a friend out there with you and the camera with a zoom on it makes all the difference in like a great good video between a good video and a great video anyways it was a pleasure when I saw it up close take care no worries

All good. And I totally get it, I watched a lot of these videos before I started posting my own. Some have a good camera crew that can zoom in on it and many don't but I love the sport so I just try to give what I can for those who are looking in on it. Safe flights!

I bought the full Habu setup with the included 4650C receiver which is connected to the 3230B flight controller as they call it. Just install the landing assist module, plug it into channel 7, and that should be it! Instructions should be located on page 22 of their manual for installation.

@@Jeffroe111 Hi I have one and i have the landing assist not sure if i really like it.Not the habu the landing assist i feel i don't have total control on landings. What are your thoughts???

@@01Gridman It's definitely a different landing style with the assist, especially when you're an experienced pilot. I think it's a good tool to help newer pilots and it's been something fun to play around with! But I do usually have it off when I'm flying it and not shooting videos showing what it does!

I ended up moving my battery to the back of the battery tray just far enough forward to get the nose wheel to stay down and still had to give some up trim. With that setup it flies really well.
