E-ink versus a reflective screen does not affect your sleep although it will affect eye strain. What affects your sleep is color temperature.
@voidofspaceandtime46845 жыл бұрын
pretty sure eye strain from bright screens can cause more sleep deprivation than you think.
@GambitsEnd5 жыл бұрын
The blue light from a normal monitor reduces the body's production of melatonin, which is important for the natural sleep cycle. An e-ink display does not emit light, so there is no blue light to interfere with the natural cycle. This is the leading theory and even then, blue light would only be a single contributing factor to overall sleep quality. Disconnecting from "active" activities earlier and using an alarm to get on a consistent schedule would do well enough. No need to go fancy with e-ink displays.

What I noticed was the quality of the audio is VERY hard for my old ears to hear. It's far too mid-range heavy and has absolutely NO high end or definition at all. It's tiring to listen to for the length of videos you make. Then, right as I was typing this, (@5:38) your music kicked in and blew my headphones off. Perhaps that is something you could work on.
@Colaholiker5 жыл бұрын
I noticed something similar, but I didn't want to say it as it would look like I am just complaining. ;-) On another channel we found out that the owner used the built-in laptop speakers for editing, whose output profile made it sound pretty good. But with some decent speakers it just sounded mushy. I think some EQ settings (and a matched outro music volume) would fix it and put the great content into an even better technical form of presentation. (The human side is already verys good and one of the reasons why I love this channel. Now let's fine-tune the technical side.)

I'm not very happy with my audio, either. My lav mic and my audio recorder don't play well and I've never quite figured it out. I've taken the lid off, but I can't see much and don't want to disassemble it much further for fear of breaking it. It's currently serving as a radio in our break room, with a radio antenna entirely made of me stuffing a random discarded cable into the jack and hoping for the best. I know this is old and you probably already solverd it, but just in case or for anyone else reading this, look up "circadian rhythm", it's the body's clock that's tuned by blue lights (naturally the sun) and screens affect that, software solutions can help some but the best help is something physically blocking blue light, you could also be mindful about the brightness you use your screens at and also use warm white lights to illuminate your home at night as opposed to cool white lights (there are lightbulbs that let you change the color temperature). You can also reset your circadian rythm by going for a camping trip for a few days and avoiding screens and blue lights at night as much as possible. IF blue lights are the source of your issue, there you have ways to combat it and fix it.

In the early 90's I was thanking Dad for making our make-shift deck load bearing so my band could rehearse without annoying my addled and disturbed mother, nor plummeting to our untimely deaths due to gravity. Good on ya TC. Keep up the channel development. You are a clear communicator with a subject focus. Cheers $0.02

As someone who has also made the effort of separating work and living spaces, it's absolutely worth it. Also, a good friend of mine has been working on a product called the "Bedtime Bulb," a low flicker, low blue light LED bulb. I use them in my bedroom next to my bed and they make winding down very enjoyable. Those, plus a good e-ink display, could be just what you need for a good night sleep!
