Thank you for the video sir. I wonder how the band lines were drawn on 45:47 ? I am assuming we first draw the repeated zone E-K diagram for the periodic dispersion relation and then we only consider the area of first Brillouin zone? Another way I could think is just plotting the E-K relation and then performing zone folding over "2pi/a" translation? if anyone knows, I would be happy to hear your response. I am new to this, please excuse my brevity and any typos!

at 38.30, where Prof is clearly mentions that once you know the E vs k relationship, take the second derivative i.e d2E/dk2 and this multiply by 1/h2 and finally take whole inverse.

Sir, how do we choose the bands for semiconductor? I mean, if I say clearly, you have taken valence band is 1st band from bottom and 2nd band from bottom in 20:55. But why not you have taken 2nd band from bottom as valance band and 3rd band as conduction band???
@anshuldadwal92352 жыл бұрын
Valence band is last energy band filled with electrons.... there are bands available below valence band, but they do no participate in conduction as they are deeply seeded, require very high energy to excite....hence last filled level...fermi level ...is taken as valence band ...next band to it will be conduction band...

Potential is Periodic, what does that mean?
@karthikvijayasarathi897 жыл бұрын
sonali Garg Always any charge Q present at a particular location will have its influence around a certain area around it in terms of potential Vo. so whenever a electron comes at this point where the potential due to the charge Q is Vo .it experience potential energy . so it varies from point to point based on the distance of the consideration from the charge Q. so potential is periodic means. The electron experiences same potential energy after moving every x distance. where x is the equilibrium distance if atoms in the crystal.
@alison11833 жыл бұрын
I think it means that the potential varies from zero to infinity at the nucleaues. The same for every atom.

isn't k and E related by a fixed relation !! E=(k.h`)^2/2me in fact that's how we calculate the possible electron energies(eigen values) by calculating the possible wave number of the shrodinger equation ! so how come the relation between them is periodic ?!
@raphaelkharkukhi17805 жыл бұрын
Maybe that "k" in your expression is the boltzmann constant and the "k" that he's explaining is the wavenumber. they're two completely different things
@PhysicsMath5 жыл бұрын
Here k=n(pi) Or you get the value of berluion zone

@karthikvijayasarathi897 жыл бұрын
周应秋 wave function is periodic . it's a solution of Schrodinger's equation
@untold_cambridge6 жыл бұрын
Schrodinger equation for electrons in bands with E gives discrete solutions and which are so many that it seems like a periodic wave.
