Wow! I'm glad I found this episode on youtube. I've never seen so much background on Tim Allen's career and the birth, rise and fall of Home Improvement. This was my favorite TV moment weekly for eight years. I worked night shift back in the nineties. My son was born in 1990 and my daughter in 1994. Me, the wife and kids all watched this show every week before I left the house to go to work. So many great memories of that quality family time laughing along with the antics of Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor and his sidekick, Al. It was absolute TV magic! The special effects they could take advantage of with Disney also helped to make Home Improvement an iconic show that is still unrivaled over thirty years since its first season. Once in a while, magic just happens when everything aligns just the right way. That is definitely what happened for Tim Allen and all the supporting cast, crew, writers and special effects team that worked hard to make Home Improvement happen. I really enjoyed Last Man Standing as well, but Home Improvement, in my opinion, is the best family sitcom to come out of Hollywood since Norman Lear's reign in the 1970s. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but Home Improvement was a big part of life for me in the 1990s. Thanks for all of it, Tim Allen, and rest in peace, Earl Hindman.

This was one of the only shows my family watched together as a child before they divorced. It's the last thing I watched with my Dad before he passed from cancer and will always be precious to me in many ways. I still watch it all the time. It's impossible to imagine Al, Jill or Wilson being anyone else. 💙From Detroit

It's nice that this episode mentioned Richard Karn going on to host Family Feud. Speaking of which, that's an episode I'd like to see on here. Family Feud has a pretty big history and I'd like to see what E! said about it.

Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson are completely different people. Tim always tells the truth even if it hurts himself while Patricia always twists the truth to her own benefit. Patricia turned down $25 million because it wasn't enough for her. She wanted more than she already had. The only reason she made the salary ultimatum was to make sure that Home Improvement gets cancelled for good because she was mad that Tim made more money than she did. Equal pay requires equal work. In the show Tim had the most screen time, he was executive producer and executive consultant, so he did the most work. Patricia did far less work in the show than she lets on. Tim was practically Patricia's boss so supporting actress earning the same salary as the main actor is ridiculous. Patricia seriously overestimated her value in the show. The show was created for Tim Allen and his comedy routine. He was the main star, she was supporting actress who was hired to the role by default. Any other actress could have played Jill's role. The show would not had existed without Tim. This show was Patricia's biggest and only break, she became famous and rich because of Tim Allen. Where would she be without this show? ABC turned Patricia down because she was not qualified enough to earn the same salary as Tim. Looking back on her acting career, she never really drew an audience. On the other hand, Tim is like superstar in Hollywood. Patricia definitely proved her worth, just not the way people think. Disney determined that Home Improvement wouldn't be profitable if Patricia was paid in pair with Tim Allen. There's a reason why nobody knows her name. Tim said in one of his interviews in 2014 that he had a hard time getting over working on the show. The kind of professional betrayal in this industry that Patricia committed cripples the ability of actors to trust and respect fellow actor. There were so much issues and tension among the cast of Home Improvement. Out of all his co-stars, Elizabeth Mitchell is the most compatible to be Tim Allen's equal partner. What makes their collaboration work is their mutual trust, respect, admiration, love and mutual understanding between them. Tim and Elizabeth balance each other both on-screen and off-screen. The dynamic between them and their chemistry brings so much depth and emotion into the screen because of their comedic sensibility between them. Their individual talents as fellow actors not only provide plentiful comedic moments but also their ability to tackle serious themes, making their performances together memorable and relatable, with Tim's comedic balancing Elizabeth's more grounded performances. Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell are two sides of the same coin, they're like each others better half!

I hated when they started focusing on Jill toward the end. She played a version of herself that was so narcissistic and sanctimonious. And to end the show with Tim losing his job and Jill becoming the family breadwinner was infuriating to me. She was obnoxious.

@@saylorbay2000 I couldn't agree more! The way the writers desperately tried to make Jill relevant in the show was laughable. Her controlling and narcissistic personality ruined the familiar and marital dynamics in the show. Patricia Richardson practically played HERSELF in the show. Jill was established as a dictator who was overly demanding and manipulative whom everyone had to obey without question. She only accepts everything her family does as long as it fits her own way of thinking and beliefs. Jill demonizes anyone who doesn't think the same way she does. Jill Taylor promoted toxic feminism where "feminism" was disguised as honorable by labeling men as "evil" and women as "good".

I thought it was kinda heartbreaking when Tim Allen did that interview regarding Jonathan Taylor Thomas coming back. Saying the cast doesn't like him and that they have moved on. I know he was hurting but come on. I was in fifth grade when I saw that interview and I remember my mom thought it was sad.

He said he was joking about nobody liking him, he even laughed. I think he acted like a father, much like they said in the video. He knew his “kid” was destined for bigger things, and as much as he knew he should give it his all for what he wants, it hurt him because he wasn’t going to be around him and Tim Allen had stated many times that he really loved working with JTT. Also, he said the show was going to be based on Randy leaving for Costa Rica and the family going forward, knowing that he’s not there.

@robbik9999 Allen was stubborn. He wanted the show to keep going but after 8 years where were they gonna go? He was upset at both JTT and Pat Richardson for wanting to move on.
