I own a L20 It is the first bicycle i have ever baught direct from the manufacture in a box as opposed from a bicycle shop and it was set up quite well but I did a full PDI on it any way only to decover that the whole bike was totaly devoid of any type of lubracition anywhere ,including wheel bearings bottom bracket, stearing and cables and every single fitting was overtightned and plastered in thread lock. I think to be fair tho, any cable brakes and gear cables opperated bicycle needs setting up again at the first service (100 miles )as they would on any bike be it analog or e bike .I am very happy with my L20 but people should be awahare that its not just a case of putting on the front wheel attaching the handlebars and mudguards blowing up the tyres and rideing it .These bikes are assembled in China by workers on minium wages with minium training not bicycle mechanics .For your own safety and long life and relibility of your machine I would recomend to check it over properley before you ride it .

i have the L20 SE in black , had it just over 2 weeks, its my 1st ebike and i love it...its got me out the house after serious health problems...already done over 100 miles..i took the basket off...to heavy

Thanks for another great review (warts and all) 👍 SADLY the Engwe L20 SE highlights the way that potentially great eBikes are having to be CRIPPLED to meet ridiculous UK regulations ! So whilst the US gets the amazing 52V-powered folding Engwe L20 2.0 eBike, the UK gets the 36V L20 SE (STUNTED Edition) !!!😥

Thanks for the honest review of the bike. Personally I don't think it looks quite as good as the other version and as I live in West Yorkshire, the motor with the higher torque is certainly more appealing due to all the hills.

What an honest, in your face, assessment of the bike. As I've said before, I've got the original L20 in green. I've had it nearly a year, and it's never let me down. I've seen reviews on the Boost and the SE (yours is the best take on it by far), and I'm so glad I've got the original. I DO like the SE basket, though. I wonder if it fits the L20? Hmmm... Thanks for this review. It's much appreciated.

I'm sure this will suit a lot of people really well. But if I had to choose between one of these and the original L20, then I'd definitely go for the original one. I like the way it goes up hill like a good 'un. Plus it could Pi... I mean really annoy some of the other pensioners in my area who have clearly derestricted their ebikes and enabled the throttle ( I refer to them as Hell's Pensioners which irritates them a bit 🤣) . There's one feller in particular who has a Samebike with a 500 watt motor who thinks he's king of the hill and needs taking down a peg or two. Which means that next year, guess what I'm saving up for 😁

This video shows multiple times why the current laws on these things are a massive hindrance. More power and speed = safer in most scenarios on our streets with how cars can be around bikes.

Oddly, I’ve just finished editing my Engwe EP-Pro review. The rear mechanical brake was rubbing so much the rear wheel would barely turn. Turned out the spacers that lift the brake away from the rotor were set up incorrectly … doing this stopped the pads rubbing. But … the dogshit mechanical brake sets don’t belong on any ebike weighing over 20kg whatsoever. I’ve contacted my contact at Engwe to explain this “again” as I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago with the Engwe Engine X review with the rack battery. That cadence sensor sounds fun buddy. 😂

Another big problem especially if miles from home-tyres puncture easy! Now my hack is just put smaller size 20 '' 2.2 tyres in them They fit trust me I just put bmx tyres on and zero punctures now!

Yikes about the brakes 😱 Engwe is easily my favourite eBike brand, mainly for the value for money with nice designs. Love the look of the M20 but I'm Bieber sized so would struggle to get it around when not ridin 😂 I still like the old C20 with the big battery, woulda bought it if I had space 😭 EP2 Pro is decent too though but I prefer the thinner tyres of the C20

About brakes: If rubbing is inconstant - this can be bend rotor (damaged in shipment) If rubbing is constant - calipers position, brake fault or dirt inside (one or both calipers not return to "home position" after handle release) or wire trapped (for mechanical). You need flashlight, bike stand and bit of patience.

@@stanley3647 cheers. Yeah I've noticed the bent rotor thing. The annoying thing for me is that in the past I've done KZbin searches on how to fix it and so many say loosed the bolts, pull the brake lever then re tighten. This has NEVER worked and I always have to do it by eye and carefully re tighten. I got a metal spacer with one of the bikes which worked really well but nothing could be done with this bike. @@e-VRC not a problem, happy to help :) I've done a lot of repair of my disc brakes (in my bike) in past. For adjustments: best to do: loose screws on caliper and just gently tight them. Rotate wheel, and look through gap betewen pads and disc. Try to move by fingers caliper to position "centered". Do not cut Your fingers while rotating wheel - edges of disc (rotor) are very sharp! When disc is bend, You need to find "happy middle" Next: tight screws - just try not move caliper. Another point worth to check: wheel bearings: when bearings (cups and ball type) are not tighten properly - brake will rub and adjusting will be imposible.

PAS settings can be changed to 7 or 9 but the power settings are random in 7 and 9 and as said this can’t be adjusted. Probably no a big deal for most but at 68 yrs old and with minor balance issues and some muscle wastage, I’d like to be able to smooth out the power settings to 20, 40, 60, 80, 99% to get a smoother transition. I agree the cadence sensor kick in lags somewhat and as an oldie the throttle needs take you to at least 8mph to get you to a decent start but understand this is a legal requirement to comply with EPAC regs. I did ask Engwe about adjusting the power output and they said the power settings are not adjustable but I could install the older controller and display to overcome this but they no longer have any in stock. If anyone knows of a compatible display and controller please let me know so I can adjust the PAS settings. The hill climbing ability to me is ok, providing you pedal, as at the end of the day it’s designed as a pedal assist bike. The rear brake wasn’t great until I retightened the disc bolts, adjusted the calliper and roughed up the disc with sand paper to help the pads bed in.

Best thing I ever bought I ride about an hour a day Every thing is very good the price is very good,you do not need to spend £3000 to get a electric bike mine was perfect out of the box .Do not think about getting one BUY this one you will spend lots of time telling people how good it is !

I've seen reviews of the Boost, and I'm not too impressed, I'm afraid. I thought it was an improvement on the L20. I'm not sure it is. My L20 does what I need it to do and more, and unlike the Boost, it will give you that miraculous and invisible big shove when you need it. The Boost requires a bit more effort from what I've seen. Hope this helps.

Ah you eventually got one .I have had one for six months now and i love it .I got it in the tank green colour I sounds to me like you haven`t set the bike up properly to deliver the best power .There is a guy on this site with a video who talks you through the full thing , and regarding the brakes , you picked a wet day , disc brakes never work effectively in wet weather .I weigh more than you and my bike pulls me up steep hills with a little peddle assistance , and lets be honest would anyone just be using throttle to take you up steep hills. that`s no practical and these bikes aren`t built to do that , if you kept that up you would burn out the motor within a few months.

@@e-VRC best thing about this bike is if you peddle fast say up to around 25mph then stop peddling and just peddle slowly it will keep at this speed forever until you touch the brakes or start peddling again .Riding along a flat road at 25mph with hardly any effort is great

walk modes on ebikes is a stupid affair. Claims 4mph, before bike weight and climb angle taken into account. Resulting in under 3mph, but my walking speed is 4mph!! Really could have done with some assistance walking up a 30 climb, but no I had to assist the bike to get it upto 3.5!!

@@mikewade777 the best legal use of 'throttle' is the green button on an Eskuta sx250. It gives a massive push which cuts out when it realises it's over 4mph but it's like being shoved forward by Eddie Hall. They should all have that rather than walk mode on a throttle.

Crazybird is awesome and great torque, and the pvy is great for running into town, etc. My son loves the pvy being (cough) 14 he cant reach the crazybird, lol 😆

TBF it performed similar and mostly better than other budget 250w motor bikes. Expensive 250w bikes with a mid drive would do lots better.
