whether a fuse should be placed between the battery and the soldering iron

how are your batteries holding up as i'm pretty sure for the draw of the iron you need a protection circuit due to how irons heat up.

I always look in the comments below videos for good tips from other knowledgeable folk so i will give my penny's worth too. I would use a 3ah battery because a 1.5ah or 2ah battery is a bit too small but also its all about capacity. These irons can accept 24volts so 18v battery is already down a bit from optimum. Therefore you will need to keep the 18v as close to full for as long as possible. So the more capacity a battery has the longer it will keep closer to 18volts. I hope you understand the reasoning here. A 24v battery would be even better as you can then get the full 65watts from these irons and that extra heat is sometimes needed, especially in windy conditions or on large ground planes. Have fun!
