Good episode, enjoyed it and found it stimulating. Some thoughts: 1. Brief update on Groq was good and more power to Chamath and team! 2. Google AI discussion was candid and on point. My politics are progressive, but one has to agree that Gemini went too far and got to a point of being ridiculous. There is much course correction that is needed. The discussion on the topic was harsh but well deserved. As expected, Sacks’s tone was one of sardonic glee, but I’m glad that others did not raise to his bait to make it a political talking point. 3. The debate about HR departments was great with Chamath making important and thought-provoking points. Friedman signed off on this with a note about racial and gender identities. It is true that the current social discourse has gotten out of hand on these topics, but I think race and gender to contribute to diversity. I hope the ‘besties’ don’t think it would be a good idea to go from over representation of these factors to under representing them, taking us back to square one. 4. It was great to see the team pivot back to crediting Google for doing TAC deals with content platforms - a really good, timely discussion. Thanks for that! Very insightful… 5. Wish there was more time spent on the Reddit S1 and IPO. Probably as more news emerge and the date gets closer, you guys will do a longer segment on it. Thanks!

On the diversity point, I agree 1000%. I have always said that there is value for a company in diversity of thought, diversity of point of view and diversity of experience. Those bring new ideas to the fore and help break paradigms. Race and gender can be a surrogate for that, but it can be (and usually is) a poor surrogate. And in any event, why rely on a surrogate?
@ProjectKhopesh8 ай бұрын
Diversity is only useful if there are shared goals, and diverse solutions allow for better results. Modern "diversity" is divisive and corrosive because it's not about shared values and goals, it's about fripperies and competing agendas.

Friedberg, you say that the investors weren't upset about the DEI but about competitive performance. The fallacy is that, DEI causes the inability to competitively perform because it's not a merit based system. It's a broken political ideaology thats not rooted in logic, but rather good intentions improperly implemented. A competitive system must be merit based to perform.

Mr. Spaceman, the weak link with this show, said at around 9:00 that the investors aren't upset with DEI. Just getting caught. I am a very small investor in Google. I can't believe that they got caught changing searches behind the scenes for a woke agenda. That's the issue. The software said it couldn't give pictures of happy white families. But it was totally pleased to give pictures of happy black families. All this does is make people wonder how often and where else this is happening. How they are being manipulated. By Maoists.

The big problem with PIPs is that there is no proper vetting process for a manager to impose it on an employee. No fact checking or QA of something which is hugely demoralising and can affect renumeration. Especially when they are dropped on people at an annual review with no prior notices. Improvement issues should be addressed and coached at the time of the incident, not arbitrarily collected by petty and malicious managers as a lazy way to grade someone without any oversight on the process. Developers can't check in code without it being scrutinized by other peers yet sociopathic managers can put a dunce hat on people without anyone fact checking a thing. Extremely unbalanced, toxic, and counter productive. I've seen these things do more damage than good to hard working and awesome team mates by vicious unchecked managers. Fix as you go, don't build up tech debt that nobody can verify.
