Hey there Steve loving this e30 progress was wondering what welder are you using?
@steviesspeedshack2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching and getting in touch. Progress is always slower than we want but always in the right direction....I'm using a Rohr 200a MIG that was bought on eBay for around £300. It's been really good and can't really fault it so far other than the power is somewhat optimistic. I'd say it's closer to a true 160a rather than 200a if I'm honest but for the money it's great.

Just come across your build, I'm also stupid enough to take on a E30 restoration. I've lucky enough to have a typical UK sized single garage... Do you reckon if I used a rotisserie, I could turn the e30 through 45 degree or so in a single garage, I really don't expect to be able to turn it through 90 degrees, or can I? Do you know the minimum width space to spin a e30 on a rotisserie?
@steviesspeedshack3 жыл бұрын
Hi mark, I have no idea but you have me curious. I'll measure the rotisserie turning circle 😂 and let you know. I would guess you would be able to spin it no problem.....the widest it can be is on its wheels so you should be all good.......I'll measure up anyway.

Hi mate use gloves when you touch the bare metal. It's your hands causing a lot of the rust. Also wd40 on a rag will stop it. Then you can get rid of the wd40 with panel wipe when you come to paint.

Thanks for getting in touch. Most of the work has been done with gloves on and there has been times where condensation has visually formed on the surfaces of my toolbox, panels, cupboards etc. It's a really poor atmosphere at the moment and it's something I'll combat with better extraction and heating. As for the steelwork, I'm hitting everything with etch primer now so it's not causing too much of an issue anymore.

@@steviesspeedshack Next time I think a dehumidifier will help you a lot with the condensation. As for heating, look into a Chinese diesel heater - I just installed one in my garage and it's absolutely fantastic. I noticed you said you were gonna epoxy prime. With the epoxy primer I'm using (jotamastic 87) it's quite thick without thinning so brushes on very well. So if you strip the underseal in sections, areas that don't need welding can be cleaned up and painted immediately with a brush on application of epoxy primer. Since it's going to be covered in underseal anyway, a brushed finish is fine. Out of interest what underseal are you going for?
@steviesspeedshack2 жыл бұрын
@@denguefever9489 I've got a 2 part epoxy primer and 2 part epoxy top coat that will seal the underside, then I'll apply the seam sealer and finish it with body colour top coat. I intend on using a clear underseal but I'm not set on a product yet. I'm interested to see how good the lanoguard stuff is.

@@denguefever9489 regarding the heaters, I'll be using ceiling mounted infrared heating panels in the near future which will help hugely.

@@steviesspeedshack seam sealer should go on before paint in my opinion but there are some debates on it. Regarding underseal the best in the business is 3m 08800 but it's expensive. Upol gravitex is a more affordable great alternative. Your projects looking great so far!
