So if you get new head bolts they won’t pull the threads? or is it still possible with new head bolts? that’s the only thing stopping me from getting a blown E46. the time insert kit isn’t cheap for the block either.
@n54andmore569 күн бұрын
So, the purpose and reason for getting new head bolts is because of the 90-degree portion during torquing, the bolts themselves stretch. So, it is possible to pull threads if you over torque but it's more likely to snap a bolt first.

my only question is when do you decide to do this vs just motor swapping i was pretty much handed a 2002 wirth a blown gasket im cooonfused on what my next move should be
@n54andmore562 ай бұрын
When the bottom end is fully intact, and the cylinder head is the only issue. You could get another engine with more impending issues.

thanks a lot for your videos man! I've got a 328ci I blew a headgasket on cause one of my hoses burst and there was no way to get off the highway in time. I've already watched a ton of videos to do the work myself but your videos convinced me its totally doable without rushing it (other videos would always have people pulling whole engine out, etc). Greetings from Poland fam.

I have to tell you that 2x90 head tighteners were scary for me.. I could fell those bolts stretching and thought for sure I was going to pull out the threads. I think oiling those bolt threads is a good idea, and a friend convinced me to buy new bolts. Apparently the bolt stretching on the last 90 doesn't work well with an already stretched bolt
@n54andmore568 ай бұрын
Lmao when I looked up the full torque sequence I was like ain't no way but it also said never reuse the bolts.

Hello, I would like to ask, if there is no jacking machine, can the front section of the exhaust pipe be removed in the engine room?
@n54andmore5611 ай бұрын
I think it can be done but due to the weight of the head combined with the exhaust headers, you would need to use a hoist of some sort.

Hey man great video, one question can you do all the head torquing without the cam trays in place,surely they can go in after as they would now have a solid platform to sit on?about to do this on m54b30 so trying to get as much info as I can👍
@n54andmore562 жыл бұрын
You can but you have to be very careful. If you install them incorrectly while the piston is in the upright position, you could bend a valve.

That zip ties around the cams is genius bro !!! I don’t suppose that it put any type of stress on the cams right?

I’m doing mine as we speak lol… What was that spray You were using to clean off the block?
@n54andmore562 жыл бұрын
That saved the mess outta me. I really don't think so, the head wasn't really that heavy but for that awkward angle of putting it, it would've been too heavy.
@cuddiebri95302 жыл бұрын
@@n54andmore56 big facts bro, that angle is killer… luckily I have a hoist so I was thinking of picking it up with the zip ties at the back

I have finally gotten the head off mine. Head looks good but now unfortunately I noticed that my pistons are melted! I am going to kill myself with this car. I don't suppose you have any videos of replacing pistons on this type of car...and with the block still in the car? I know sounds foolish but I'm about to push this car into the river, at this point I'm about to swap the engine. Also, you must be mad strong to lift that head by yourself like that and just lowered that shit in with ease and grace!
@n54andmore56 Жыл бұрын
At this point change the engine. Few reasons why: the block could be warped, the crankshaft bearings could be bad, the rod bearings could be bad, and it's so much less work at this point. I know how to do it but I have no videos and it's not worth it. I have spent a good amount of time in the gym and lifting transmissions alone lol.
@thegreatpatsy Жыл бұрын
@@n54andmore56 I got lucky! The head was in excellent shape, no warping to the head or block. I ended up getting the pistons out with no issue. Was easy once I dropped the subframe to get the oil pan out. Finger's crossed that I can get this bitch back together and running...at least decent enough to sell it. It's just blood, sweat, tears, and time right? LOL. Thank God I'm handy and patient! I got stronger through the process too.
