The game is set to hit shelves in less than a month. Of course the devs are coming out now and saying that all the mistakes from the past has been fixed. It's like in the weeks up to draft season. Don't believe anyone -- it's all smoke and mirrors.

The fact that all the best Madden players use 1 offensive formation, 1 defensive formation (max 2 or 3) and maybe 10 plays from different quick snap motions, and everyone users the same player, makes it very clear the game needs a huge overhaul. I can't imagine a fighting game where the best players only smash 1 button and repeat the same move again and again. The complexity is just not there most times, we just get the manipulation, and we fight against mechanics that aren't clearly explained (match coverage rules). It's almost insane to think that match coverages rules are so obscure and formation based but there is NO explanation anywhere of a clear cut rules based system to predict as a defender. It's left to KZbin guys to try and muddle through practice mode to try and give us some semblance of predictability. That's my take. Thanks Eric. And hey, if you ever want to break down match coverage rules for us, I would love you forever.

So, it took until Madden 2023 for them to finally listen and act like we haven't been encouraging them to make Madden more physics base. They haven't been listening at all. Yes, the Refs on the field are small, but it is the only SIMULATION football game. So what we see on Sundays is what want to see in the game. 2K doesn't have to put cheerleaders, Referees, or a Halftime show in the game, but they do. Do you remember the old EA Slogan "IT's IN THE GAME" I see why they don't use it anymore? We buy the game every year 1 because it's the only NFL Game 2. I always hope they give us what we've been asking for. We are on Next-gen consoles, and still the same thing.

We need to understand the bigger picture is driving the change. The bigger picture includes MCS series and ESPN exposures to it. Bottom-line, there's a lot of $$$ in the competitive space. With it comes more Madden exposure, with this exposure bugs are exposed and overused formations are seen in very large TV audiences. So EA has to step up more than ever. I'm encouraged.

There are some under-the-radar changes that could make the game feel more immersive, such as Long Snapper actually being a position, snapping accuracy being a rating (or just called "snapping") plus snap catching, holding, etc. because we all know that bad snaps and botched holds are very much a part of football. Also, adding more player body customizations such as wingspan, hand size, and actually being able to fully customize faces and hair of a player like other games of the modern era. Edit: based on the replies I received, I will note that I'm not demanding this or anything :) but I really think it would improve the quality of the game if one or more of these changes were implemented.

My issues with Madden are simple things... like why can a CPU defensive end get around my right tackle 7,8,9 plays straight regardless of his overall rating or dev trait but the CPU will stonewall my defensive end.... or why is it that the CPU corners can run the route before my receiver does but my corners will just stare at the ball and do nothing but let them catch it... why can a 66 overall rookie normal development QB for the CPU complete 15 straight passes but my 88 overall Superstar QB overthrows a simple 5 yard drag route by a mile? Or my lineman falling down instead of actually blocking so the CPU can get an easy unearned tackle? Or the CPU making way early throws and its accurate 95% of the time but if i do it its way off target? it's things like that that are really irritating and make the game boring... aside from all the things missing from Madden now that were in Maddens past... like training camp, unhappy players, cpu trades, better draft logic, cpu offering you trades... etc...

I like the fact that they made DB subLB worse at run stopping because especially in ultimate team and franchise and h2h everyone puts a safety at subLB for the user animations.. it really eliminates linebackers because you get thrown over and have to have lurker and even then it doesn’t work. Those dumb lurks that happen where the safety just plucks it out of midair and jumps hella high should not be interceptions… they should be tipped passes with the chance of a tipped interception which is how like 50% of interceptions happen (especially by linebackers and safeties)

madden really needs to fix their sim logic. i did about 12 years of a franchise and lamar jackson won MVP 6 times, with a 3 peat towards the end of the sim. on top of that QBs rated 90 and above are getting blown away in terms of stats (passing yards ect ect ) by QBs rated high 70's. Each year in a franchise feels very bland right now. I know they look to improve that with better draft logic and a better free agency period. Hopefully they fix simulation stats to make each year feel unique.

Pretty much. It’s so stupid to take out create a team and replace it with wack a$$ “relocate”, and then have the same BS relocated teams every year. NHL has a create a team in their expansion franchise mode and you customize everything from the uniforms to the emblems on the ice, the goal buzzer, the color of the seats in the stadium etc. why madden won’t do that is beyond my comprehension. Guaranteed if they did that, more people would play just for that mode.

Pass coverage by linebackers is always terrible. I can't recall how many times my inside linebacker just stands there helplessly as they watch their assignment catch a pass. They almost never make an effort to deflect the pass. An interception could have been made if the linebacker would just jump yet the linebacker would just watch the ball sail over their heads into the pass catcher's hands. It's still way too animation based.

The reason PC hasn't gotten access to NextGen since it's been an option is actually very simple. EA has a contract agreement with Sony and Xbox to keep NextGen exclusive to consoles for the purpose of boosting the sales of those platforms. All of those companies know that PC players (in general) are on a fairly higher budget, and the majority of them will just opt to buy a NextGen console if they aren't allowed to play the new game correctly on their existing PC. The past few years, Madden has had a laughable playerbase of about 2000ish on PC. EA are completely fine with that despite what you might think, because most PC owning sports fans are still buying and playing Madden every year anyway, just not on their PCs.

Start mocapping ACTUAL CURRENT football players. Every notable starter should have his throwing motion mocapped. Take advantage of these NIL deals and have these small college receivers and DBs mocap the necessary movements. I can’t even begin with how to fix franchise but literally going back to the halftime/postgame show of madden 10 will do just fine. Add a level of excitement when you’re a team fighting for a wildcard spot. Actually highlight what scenarios have to play out in order for your team to make it. Reference previous season stats in franchise like MLB the show. Reference if someone is close to breaking a record. Highlight a young QB who’s shown improvement and a vet who’s declining. I genuinely want to know how hard any of that is. Make team building worthwhile. Rebuilding literally takes 1 season and that’s so boring for anyone who wants to “realistically” build a team. Stray away from X factors and go towards a 2k route with badges for players that separate everyone but doesn’t make it arcade like.

I think there are just a lot of toxic players who overlook all the good things and just care about the bad stuff. I agree, there are many things that could be improved on, and a few things that NEED to be improved on. But I've been playing Madden for the past year and a half and I still play it for at least an hour a day. Maybe it's different after playing nonstop for a few years but right now, if they fix most of the major things like crossing routes and pass rush, then I'll be fine.

I have to disagree when you suggest that EA will make a better game if they listen to the hard-core players. I think that's what's taking the series in the wrong direction. I believe the focus of every video game should be Fun. Hard-core players are too focused on winning by any means, and patching the game to fix all the glitches these players find often makes the core gameplay worse.

Hardcore players don't just mean competitive online players though. It includes hardcore sim and franchise players as well. Every group has something to offer in terms of making the game fun and balanced.

I've been running a small league on Xbox for the last couple seasons, and you can count me as one of the silent majority who are relatively happy with madden. It's not perfect, but at least it's better than nba2k.

Well for starters that's not EA saying that, it's IGN/customers. Other sports games are still competition. When people bring up EA's franchise and career mode, it's compared to the competition of 2k and other games, showing how high the bar is outside of Madden.
