Following 2021's incredible campaign, ‪@JonArmstrongRallying‬ returns to the ‪@wrc‬'s Junior WRC category in the all-new Ford Fiesta Rally3, alongside co-driver Brian Hoy.
Jon and Brian will make their debut at Rally Sweden from February 25, with additional rallies taking place in Croatia, Portugal, Estonia and Greece throughout 2022.

(NASDAQ: EA) today enters the pinnacle of rally motorsport by sponsoring Codemasters’ developer Jon Armstrong’s quest for the 2022 Junior WRC title. The newly formed team, comprising Northern Ireland duo Jon Armstrong and co-driver Brian Hoy, will make their debut this weekend in Sweden, ahead of race weekends in Croatia, Portugal, Estonia and Greece. Fans can follow the action and get exclusive behind the scenes content, including the car reveal, via the Rally Twitter channel at twitter.com/DiRTGame The Junior WRC continues to be one of the premium series on the calendar, exclusive for drivers under the age of 30. Having been pipped of his maiden JWRC title last season, Jon hopes to go one better as drivers compete in identical Ford Fiesta Rally3 cars, all supplied by M-Sport Poland. Set across five European locations, the JWRC retains the WRC race weekend set-up with drivers tackling the same stages and routes. Jon Armstrong, 27, turned professional in 2015. He finished second in last season’s JWRC, losing to Finland’s Sami Pajari on the final weekend. Alongside working full-time at Codemasters as both a game designer and rally consultant, Jon is known on the esports scene, winning the 2018 Esports WRC Championship. @@runawayplane6166 Not really, I believe it's the end of the games as we know them. They will probably get watered down to appeal to the "greater audience", fail because people will not like the direction the franchise will go, and then finally kill it off for something different.

Let's not lose all hope. They may keep the game more realistic now that it has the WRC license. And they should if they want to keep decent sales. The fact there is Dirt Rally for simulation and Dirt for arcade gives me hope the realistic part of the series won't go to shit. Edit: Let's not forget, with Codemasters, EA didn't get only the WRC license, Dirt Rally and Dirt, but also the F1 license, F1 games, and also GRID and Project Cars. This means that the fact they want to release new racing titles (not specifically rally games) annually doesn't mean we'll have a new Dirt Rally game every year. They will surely continue releasing F1 every year. We'll see how they work with the WRC license, perhaps they could be adding seasonal content in expensive DLCs every year without releasing a new Dirt Rally game annually. I'd prefer that to having to adjust to a new game every year. Either way, annual release is one thing, but they have 5 racing series from Codemasters, so they may release one or two games from different series every year.

@@ondraspendlik9759 I had the same view during the latest releases of Codemasters. DR2.0 was not a letdown but it could be improved, Grid was kinda bad... I hope that all the great studios amassed by EA will actually improve the result in each game, being a sim or arcade, rally or track.

@@KyleS.1987 Yeah, Codemasters haven't exactly been very pro-consumer for the past 10+ years. F1 2021 had like $200 worth of cosmetic DLC and content recycled from previous games.... I want Sony to buy up EA just so we can get some half decent racing games from Codemasters and EA again

I wouldn’t be so sure of that. Yeah, it’s concerning, but GRID hasn’t been subjected to that kind of treatment, and Codemasters doesn’t have the rights to the FIA WRC license. The only reason why they give F1 a yearly release is because, well… it’s F1, the biggest Motorsport Codemasters has claim to the title for.

I see some people probably don't understand the idea of this channel called "EA SPORTS Rally" so i can try to explain a little. I suppose that the reason behind is because it will not be now just a DiRT series channel but it will also contain the WRC series with the license and upcoming games which they will want to show on their one only Rally games related channel for both of their series and titles or even more if to come in the future. That means we can see for example DIRT 6 or whatever it could be called and if it really will be "DiRT" to be released by the Codemasters Cheshire Studio which is not connected with the DiRT Rally series but more arcadey games in style just as DIRT 5... And the second thing of course the WRC game which probably will be with the name in the place of DiRT Rally 3 which we await. I'm sure we know it can be either DiRT Rally 3 with WRC license and maybe something more or even like a game with dlc's as longer service but it can be also just the WRC game each year and the DiRT games will stand for more Rallycross, Gymkhana or whatever action related to off road. I guess even if it would be a DiRT Rally 3 game maybe there could be a very slight chance to see 2 FIA licenses and discplines at once + with some additional cars and content just as Historic and Legends? I hope so! I think in general you don't have to worry about it at least for the moment, we have to see and wait what the DiRT Rally Studio as Codemasters with EA will prepare and then we will see who was correct or not or if the direction of companies will be fine. The most important thing for me is Codemasters will not change or be said to change their style of making games either by EA or at least by the WRC Promoter as for example DR 2.0 was accessible and realistic in one. Also that their DNA or from the side of promotion and stuff will be not changed and stays about the same, and as well the most important thing will be that their games will be good just as DiRT Rally 2.0 or even F1 games was for some people which is what we expect and await a lot. :) Also best of luck for the EA Sports/Codemasters team for the Junior WRC Campaign and i also hope this will be used as one of nice opportunities to get some more information about how many things in rally works, for the physics and the rest but also many things outside the driving. Some kind of telemetry or data from the stages could be always very helpful to transfer into the games and especially the experience shared by people, sim players and for sure Jon Armstrong as the driver but also previously as consultant for the game and as game designer as well. The more people or rally drivers for example from the WRC or telemetry and technology with experience will be used, the better progress we can see being made from DiRT Rally 2.0 in that case. I can't tell if that's a render or game engine footage or you're taking a part in real rally junior series, didn't really like dirt series because it wasn't advanced enough in physics for me so hopefully you will bring something new and realistic, if not then I'll join the rest : rip dirt rally series

I want to be optimistic. With DiRT 5 and DiRT Rally 2.0, Codemasters made the choice to separate the fun Rally aspect and the pure simulation into 2 different franchises. With EA buying Codemasters, and probably trying to have a hold on all FIA-licensed games, maybe we'll have a new EA Sports Rally series, while we'll keep DiRT as the continuation of DiRT 5? I hope so, at least.

I guess the series may continue under the original Dirt and Dirt Rally names. EA Sports Rally will be the developer name and the name of this channel, as it seems. But I expect the games to keep the original names, due to their popularity. Edit: Simply put, EA now owns Codemasters and will release their games under EA Sports Rally, which is a new part of EA.
