To my great regret the Eachine EX4 has proven to be quite cumbersome 😥 Because of all the hassle I don't really use it ... It looked amazing in the video, but I'm sorry, I can't recommend this drone. Better steer clear of it and use your money on something else ! Positives: 3-axis gimble & 4K camera Negatives: acquires GPS signals super slow, does a lot of toilet-bowling on take-off & I had at least 3 fly-aways during the half a dozen times I've used it !!! If anybody knows of a fix for these problems I'm all ears, because I'd like to have more fun with this $200 project 😉

Cold weather electronics tips: Get gloves with conductive fingertips, or a pen with a rubber tip for using touch screens without freezing fingers. Get a cooler big enough to hold your drone and camera gear. Keep in house and warm car until going to shoot, at which point put a few microwaveable hand warmers into the cooler. (The kind you click and they go solid and get warm., not the burning type.) it will keep the gear warm enough to function.

Ten below zero, and you don't even seem to be bothered by it much. I am from Southern California. I don't even own any kind of clothing that would protect me from the kind of cold. I could not imagine even wanting to fly in that kind of weather. Lol...Captain Drone, you are hard core! You brave ice freezing, hand stinging weather, just to make a drone video for us. Thank you for all your comments and reviewing the EX4. I am an actual user and have had it for a year as of today (6/5/21). Let me start by saying that your review is accurate with some comments. I had great expectations on the EX4 based on the reviews. Those expectations were met at some degree. However, I feel obligated to make the following comments which left me disappointed and with the impression of having a better experience should I have invested not too much more by buying from another brand. I purchased three batteries so I could enjoy longer flying trips. 1. Gimbal. Yes. It is a 3 way gimbal (tilt, pan, inclination) Tilt and Inclination work fine, as expected. Pan does not however. Panning behavior is very shaky and chunky. Do not tell me that I probably push the direction lever too hard or too fast because I tried doing it different ways. The resulting video was not pleasant. Besides, it takes too long to correct the tilting after a turn. 2. Video. I do really regret having videos recorded at 24 fps. You know that the minimum to please your retina is 29.5. This results in, again, a chunky video. Besides, although not always, there is a "jelly" effect in those videos. 3. Orbit. Yes it does work, but the maximum radius is only 5 m. I personally consider that not useful if you want to orbit an object that is bigger than a car. 30 m to 50 m would be more useful. I fact, at times I have had to orbit a house, for instance, and I have had to orbit the drone myself with the subsequently shaky video because of the gimbal behavior I mentioned in numeral 1. 4. Waypoint. Yes. It does work too as expected. However, sadly I found out that the maximum distance for waypoint 1s only 100 m which does not make any sense to me if I have a drone expected to have a range of 1,200 m. I should be able to program a waypoint around my neighborhood, for instance, not only around my block. This is to give you a practical sense of numbers and real life situations. 5. Follow me. Again Yes. This feature does work too. And Yes, there is a "however" too. I did it the first time. I had the drone follow me while I rode my bicycle. I follow me and "punched" me. However, the next time I tried to do it, it did follow me too, but this time the camera "punched" a totally random target. I wonder what the point was. 6. The batteries. After 6 months of relatively happy "Honey moon" with my drone, I started noticing that the batteries ere hard to pull off the drone for the charging cycle. What happened was that the battery slowly exploded inside the plastic battery pack and swollen it until the pack opened. Once, it happened in flight and the drone started to loose altitude at an unexpected rate. It landed almost freely by gravity. Fortunately, I realized what was happening and was able to steer it out of the lake over which it was flying. 6A. Customer Service. I submitted a complaint before Banggood with unsuccessful results: Warranty expired! I order a new battery for another USD50. That new battery also failed within two months. I submitted a complaint again, but they have not answered yet. All of this means that I ended up with a USD400 paperweight. It can not be flown anymore which would not have happened should I have purchased another brand. USD is what I invested including the extra batteries without accounting for an extra charger (USD35) 7. The App. C-Fly or Enjoy Fly. Yes It does work, but it is so limited that you have little or no control over your aircraft. The software is poorly designed and you have almost nothing to control. Besides, lets talk about updates. No updates. They are not supported by Playstore (Android). you have to download it from the apk sites with all the risk from the Internet. I am 50+ years old engineer who has been around remote controlled flying aircrafts since the 70's. I have built myself many models, trainers, stunt planes, sail planes, you name it. I do know what I am talking about. All in all, very disappointed. I have emailed them several times with no response. You get down to your own conclusions One more issue: Warranty is one month an batteries failed within 2 - 6 months!!!!!

Love your channel... So I just ordered my second drone and after your JJRC X12 and this video. I ordered this one at an awesome price.. bag + 2 batteries- $220 American... LOL I can totally see how this hobby can be addictive... I ordered this drone and I'm excited for it to get here.. My first one was the MJX Bugs 4W 4K just to see if I'd like the hobby.. first flight- ADDICTED :) ... love that drone.. I've had one crash with it.. it hit a tree (20 feet high), fell to the ground, quickly took back off and struck another tree, then fell to the ground upside down lol.. totally pilot error BUT not one single scratch... I found that the C-Fly Faith app actually works better than Enjoy-FLY. Also, the GPS maps actually work in it, so that the drone doesn't try to fly home to China. Bear in mind this is with the JJRC X12 Aurora, I've never flown the Eachine EX4.

Thought you might be interested in an issue that had me tearing what little hair I have left out and that was I was wanting to fly the EX4 and did a Gyro Calib and a Compass Calib but then it would not arm either in GPS or Non GPS mode. It kept telling me that "Environmental magnetic field interference too large". Turns out that I had not done the vertical compass calib correctly. Good old smarty pants (me) had not followed the instructions and pointed the drone down instead of up. Recalibrated the compass correctly and problem solved. I suppose that's why they give you an instruction book.

Yes, of course, but your smartphone must be able to talk to WIFI at 802.11ac. GOOGLE the specs of your phone to see if it has that.

@@elipin4128 One afternoon it got quiet before sunset and I took it up 30m in the garden, I am not supposed to do that so I just kept it vertically over the house. It was actually stable as a rock. I turned it around and filmed. Video quality is OK, but I struggled with the exposure in the direction where there is water. Horizon was curved. Over Christmas I got a Mavic Mini that I was flying over the holidays. I will sure fly with both. They are quit different.

It is for your display on your phone (720p to 1080p). It may affect the image recorded to your phone as well, but I'm not sure.

On some Low Cost drones the barometer and internal circuits do not function properly in the Cold. A lipo battery is unable to supply continuous power at same voltage in the cold. Try flying the PARROT ANAFI in the cold... it won't let you take off for fear that the cold affects the internal components.

While Captain Drone does amazing reviews, there is one thing that I don't recall him ever mentioning and something one has to consider when buying one of these drones from China: Repair and replacement. I got a defective EX4 and Banggood wanted ME to pay for shipping back to them ($55-$60 USD) even though their return policy states that they would pay. THERE IS NO PLACE IN THE US (to date) THAT I CAN FIND THAT CAN EVEN REPAIR THE THING! And after all- it's a drone. So if you're never going to crash it and you're sure yours will be perfect out of the box, fine. But I'm going to suggest that you'll probably crash it at least once and when that happens if there is any damage, Ghost Busters isn't going to pick up the phone. Just sayin'. With DJI and probably Autel, and I'm sure others, if you need a repair at least there is a resource for it. This is on aspect that I neglected to check. Also, some of the drones are so cheap that they're meant to be tossed rather than fixed. A lot to consider when choosing. JMO

Unfortunately budget drones come with no serial number because there is no warranty, support, repair, parts. The prices are low for all these reasons. The purpose of the budget drone is to get people into the drone hobby to see if they wish to move up to the mainstream drone models.

If it is a budget drone that does not have a memory chip in it to store gps and compass info, then you have to do it each time you power the drone on. The drone will tell you or it just won't take off. Most drones that cost more than $300 only have you do one compass calibration when you receive it and that is it.

For the price the best bang for the $$ is the SG906 PRO. It is very inexpensive which makes it attractive. Any drone less than $500 US is pretty much a budget drone with limited features and questionable camera/flight/range.

Were you ever able to calibrate the compass and gyro? I have the JJRC X12 and the compass will not calibrate vertically, and the gyro will only calibrate intermittently... both indoors and outdoors.

Yes works indoors due to it being warm. Outdoors, if warm, you just let it sit until the sats register on your APP, then do the GYRO and Calibration.

Hello all, today was my first flight with this drone, got the Eachine version. I made the mistake of flying it in my backyard and yes it was my first drone flight too. Well, after the calibrations, I was off and flying. Did really well scooting around the yard with no more than 15' altitude and practicing with the sticks. Flew like this for about 20 minutes and it was fairly stable. As battery approached 10% I just hovered around and all of a sudden, the drone went into full throttle high into the sky! I panicked big time trying to force the throttle control down, but it seemed like the controller was disconnected and the drone was not responding to stick input. Finally in a frenzy I pressed the "return to home" button and it immediately started beeping and the drone began descending. It came close to hitting my arbor on the way down, but fortunately it landed just a couple feet from takeoff, so the GPS seemed to work well. So, what could have gone wrong? I'm now afraid to fly this thing until I can find out what happened. Any thoughts?

Hi Captain!, I would appreciate knowing a big question. I do not understand how having a 3-axis gimbal, when you rotate the drone there are jumps in the image, the rotation is not sharp. That is why? Is there a way to correct those jumps when the drone turns in the air? Thanks and regards!

We tried to fly this little guy last weekend and in Quebec it was I don't know -16? there was a foot of snow more or less and we were able to calibrate half the times, I don't know if it's due to the temperature because it wasn't a steady failure result... And then it pitched itself in a wall that was 30 metres away... 😅 short test flight

Fantastic review, does this drone come back when you press the button? I am thinking of getting it for my first drone ( Baby beginnerrrr) i love the 3 axes gimble bit...Its 445 au dollars here in Melbourne. Looks very good with 3 batteries and bag and all the bits n pieces.

It will return to where it took off if you press the RETURN TO HOME button, or if it flys out of range, or if the battery gets low.

I've tried 3 times now, trying to order from the sources that the reviewers provide links to, to no avail. Even made sure to dot all the I's and cross all the T's. Oh well....maybe the stars will align and I'll win one from one of these reviewers. Then again...might hit the lotto first - haha.

@@earllarson7289 I've been waiting since mid-March from Bangood. First shipment supposedly got returned to them. Now on the second try it says quad had made it to New York. I think it's held up at customs, but I'm remaining hopeful.

Captain, in several reviews you address that the same company makes both brand names. My question is: Are they also produced to the same quality? This question refers Specifically to the JJRC X12 VS the Eachine EX4 as this model is where I intend to start my drone journey. I apologize for the reiteration of previous questions, but after reading through all of them, I didn't see where quality was specifically addressed. Thanks in advance
