Eachine Spitfire modifications

I decided to give my Eachine spitfire a new paint job. The old color was great but as I have often said I like the look of the Battle of Britain, so I gave my radio controlled spitfire a new paint job. And while I was at it I put an FPV camera in so that you could get the feel of flying from the cockpit. I will be doing a full video of the flight of the Eachine spitfire with FPV flying at my local sports complex. Pete Livermore sports complex in Carson City Nevada

Just paint over the original with acrylics. The 2024 Spit comes with a clear canopy and a pilot!. Good News

How did you connect the FPV wires? Did you solder it onto the board? And where did you solder the wires?

Hello, if you sue Tamiya Polycarbonate paint it will stick better and also flex in the event of a crash. This paint is also used on lexan (plastic) car bodies for radio controlled cars.

@@fltltcrashcrocker5017 your welcome and I use to paint the foam GWS unpainted versions of their planes with Tamiya Polycarbonate paint years ago and they always looked great.

A shame that paint is so poorly bonded to the EPP foam. They need a solution for that. The red on the tails of the mini Mustang is the only paint that sticks to them. Very cool mod. I've converted mine to 2S brushless, but still have to get a video made for my channel. Happy flying!

I think eachine should leave the aircrafts they make unpainted so that we "their costumers" can paint the aircraft the colors we want. Ill be checking your channel out shortly. So watch out for comments :)

I’ve also painted mine up to look more like a mark 1 spitfire. In addition to the repainting I also changed out the exhaust outlets to the “3 aside” as per mark 1. As commented by others, I used 1/32 extradecals though they seem very fragile and the tail fin markings had to be hand painted as the decals were too small for the rail which is actually oversized. The one thing which sadly can’t be changed to make this aircraft really realistic is the location of the main wings - they are just too far back which gives the airplane a slightly squashed look. Still, it flies really well. Like your little instrument panel. How did you make the cockpit and what decals did you use?

I just cut very carefully with a razor sharp craft knife around the bubble canopy following the frame work that would of held the Perspex in real life. The instrument panel is a scanned picture from the spitfire that Guillows makes, the 500 size as are the decals. While not spot on they are close. My stepfather’s father flew the hurricane at the end of the battle of Britain and while he had I think only 2 confirmed kills he was I am proud to say a battle of Britain pilot. Due to a crash he went to bombs after the battle of Britain and ended up as POW in stalag luft 3 (yes that camp). You are very correct on the Eachine spitfire it is not correct and only looks like a spitfire in passing. The nose is even to long for the Rolls Royce griffin engine. I’m pretty sure that it’s all about balance and kind of looking close to what a spitfire would look like. Are you going with the pre Battle of Britain paint scheme of half black and half white on the underside? I will admit that while I love the spitfire I would prefer a hurricane which would be repainted and renumbered to match my stepfathers father plane. @@fltltcrashcrocker5017 I thought about the black and white option but went with standard sky blue as my understanding is that the black/white scheme was quickly ditched as it made the aircraft more obvious in the air. Also shaved off some of the tailplane as it’s clearly oversized. Great to have had one of the “few”in the family. The hurricane was greatly underrated in terms of its role in the BoB. Like you, I hope they bring out a hurricane and hopefully a fw190 and zero. Not sure my bank account can take all this aerial warfare!

You must be a fan of the BofB movie - that music from the aerial ballet is great. What paint did you use? I am wondering if spray paint would work ok? Cellulose or acrylic?

@@fltltcrashcrocker5017 Al Deere flew from RAF Hornchurch, where I used to live, and I think Malan did too. Robert Shaw's character was based on him but you probably know that. It's all cool stuff.

Alan Deere was with 54 squadron and sailor Malan was with 74 Squadron. I have the book 9 lives by Alan Deere which is about his early to mid war time flying spitfires. Great book and a must to read. anyway Happy new year, I know late but better late than never

I just removed all parts I could, and airbrushed a few very light coats of grey acrylic primer before masking up. Then 1/32 Extradecals to finish.

Repainting Eachine aircraft seems to be becoming common. Maybe Eachine should start offering unpainted aircraft so that we (the public or the people) can paint our own colors. Hey a bright yellow spitfire would look ummmm interesting lol.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. The camera I got from banginggood and its a eachine TX02. To be honest its only good at short range (about the size of a soccer pitch).

Looks great! I haven't done any mods to mine yet but I have an issue with it waggling around, almost like the ailerons are loose (but they're not!) - anyone else had this? My P51 doesn't do it and in general flies better.

I re-created my Bf109 too with an edding and "added" some more dirt and particles.. Does anybody modified the landing gear?

When I did have landing gear on my eachine spitfire and my BF109 I put them on with the wheels inside out so that they looked more like the real spitfire and BF 109. But in the landing gear down creates too much drag and just doesn't look right. Any warbird looks better and cleaner with the landing gear up. To quote from a TV show "Piece of cake" For Moggy the wheels spoil the look of the thing that’s why he retracts the wheels as soon as airborne

@@fltltcrashcrocker5017 Thats definetly true, without using the landing gear it looks much better (and the vanilla version is not realistic nor pretty). But not to use them will cost you many propellers and they are quite expensive and not everywhere to get.

Hmmm heat gun. Maybe when I do my next paint job I will try that. What settings work best? I don’t want to melt things. Got that right on fresh goose poo. But once it dries its not that bad. Thankfully it’s not nesting season yet as they get mean then and will chase and attack anything. I don’t want to get shot down by a deranged goose.

Why go to all that trouble to remove paint ? Just use existing paint as undercoat for new paint scheme !

I wanted a clean surface to work with. now if Eachine would offer the option of unpainted aircraft it would make life so much easier. think about it. You want a spitfire of BF109 in the Tardis bam you could paint it yourself. Hey a spitfire in Tardis blue would be fun.

The paint looks like shit. It looked way better stock. These planes are the funnest little things ever!
