Eachine Wizard X220S Upgrades

Hi Andy, Thanks for your video's. I learned a lot of them. It also convinced me to open up the x220s and do some modifications, even though it is my first drone and I had no experience in building drones, the different components and soldering whatsoever. I was having terrible FPV reception with a lot of noise at first on my Wizard x220s. After having installed a low esr 1000uf 35v capacitor on the battery lead, an LC filter between the esc vbat out and the vbat in on the flight controller and a decent antenna I was having perfect reception and no more noise from the battery at punch outs and/or active breaking. Unfortunately this new found vision made me a bit too enthusiastic and I crashed it, big time. It broke in several pieces... Luckily after watching all the content and my initial tinkering I'm convinced I can rebuild it. I'm also going to remove the LED lights on the arms and the then useless PDB. But leave the side plates on, for some structural fortification (I crash a lot...) But do you know which connector is used for the camera. It flew off, and I don't know which one to get. It has 3 cables but 4 pins? Which size? Hope you can tell me. Keep up the good work! Cheers from the Netherlands!

Hey Andy I heard that one of the recommended things to do is to remove those LEDs below the motors as they could easily short. Any advice on how to do that? Should I desolder them from that bottom PDB board that they are soldered on?

I just broke my x220s and replace frame with martian II, every single part of frame is a sandwich of thin carbon - cheap fiberglass. Only 3 pair of column is not enough to support lipo, that why i order martian with 4 pairs column, not rebuild original frame. Why you dont remove LED cable from pdb and solder it together with 5v. And provide vbat to pdb for 12v bec? 5v bec you can get from FC, just change vbat RAM to 5v RAM, for camera its enough, but for vtx I dont know.

That's a lot of work, but, its worth it if you feel it has improved the craft you fly. I've been watching the DRL (Drone Racing League) preliminaries and elimination rounds, and will watch the Championships from London on TV this coming Friday. The racers they are using are 5S models and incredibly fast. The courses they race are quite insane, and in my wildest dreams couldn't imagine racing through them (wonder if you've seen any of them). At any rate, I'm sure you feel a sense of satisfaction in completing your 'mods'. (hoping that I'll feel the same once I finish the rebuild of my Kingkong 90GT .. would you believe I bought 4 new motors, and one of them was bad? Waiting on the replacement .. sheesh!). How bad is the noise on the video, or Should I just go with the X220 or the eachine furious 250? I dont really want to add by own regulator in since I'm sure that will void the warranty. I'm planning to get the RTF with some EV800D goggles since they're cheap and I've heard are a steal.

Given the amount of extra money that you spent on "upgrading" the parts. How do you feel about the Diatone Tyrant S that cost $25 more? Motors might not be as good, maybe a little less, 2205 vs 2206, Tryant runs on F3 vs F4. Not sure if it makes that much of a difference if any in that comparison. But if we have to spend money on "upgrading". would it be better just to spend more on a better base to start with?

Same reason I was researching but my RTF came with a different component. My RTF is also missing two screws on the bottom. One for a mid and one for a rear support(purple strut). Nice run through Andy, I learned a lot.

a very very late comment got my wizard 220s about two months ago, was flying and it caught fire reasoning is because some of my wires were making contact with some of the boreds and where getting hot. went to my local shop and he took the sides off to cool the drone down. so yes, yes take the sides off it was an expensive fix

quad copters in general are inefficient therefore a regulator would have very little impact on the flight time when motors can be drawing up to 100amps . cheers

You have to plug your quad in beta flight on computer and in the osd tab check mark the battery voltage !!!!

I've seen on other videos they get stress marks near the hubs. not good. The original wizard props exploded on me with a 4 cell in it. I wouldn't use them.

Hi I see you have lots of experience with racing drones. I want to buy mini drone with good video range lets say 200-300m or maybe 500m if possible??? And good video quality, so im guessing I need good camera and goggles. Doesn't have to be fastest drone but I want nice flyer and not to expensive :) . I already bought eachine vr011 they 5inch 800x480(not sure if i will get a good quality of those? But i don't want to spend 300£ for fatsharks ), also i already bought flat panel antenna and mushroom antenna to upgrade the range . I bought flysky fs-i6 transmitter without receiver . Now my question is which of this mini drones will give me nice flying experience ? I really have no idea what to get. I know soldering and im good with diy , but im completely new to fpv . I was thinking to get fighter 130 and change the camera , antenna and receiver , but i don't know which ones to get, or maybe there are better options? Do you mind to give me some advise ? i thought it was a pretty simple mod, coming from building my own craft you can spend days trouble shooting something like this. I think its good value yes but if you can afford to learn build your own i would always go for that option first. for me its my only model that can run 5s so I have it for that novelty cheers

It looked like a lot more...I guess i've done more to the first Wizard X220 with upgrading cameras and blowing an ESC... then finding out my motor was seriously unbalanced which lead to shattering a prop... but hey, my stock VTX/Antenna has held up nicely :)

Try a 35v 470uf-1000uf 50v cap I think for 6s also a way to keep heart from jumping out

KZbin need to make it easier and less time to put in a copyright claim dispute than it takes to steal a video and upload it. Had to make 3 separate claims with over 20 videos on each one before the channel got shut down on a recent one. Bots probably create some of them but i'm very confident even the copyright system is unmanned and run by bots going by the replies from youtube too.

Yeah, very frustrating. I think it has to be different in one of several ways if the original is still there. Name, files size etc Even then I haven;t found a way to update that specific video for a new version, only upload a new one. The KZbin 'system' is all bots, not a single human to deal with or ask questions. It gets worse with copyright free tunes too, lots 'free music' channel likes to put in copyright strikes because they have also uploaded those copyright free tracks to their page. Regardless of correct copyright details on the page, they still put in claims. Often channels without any videos uploaded will still manage to put in a claim and claim all add money earned. Believe Music tried this today with me but the track is available on countless channels. I think I may have had a couple FoD with the Lizard recovering inverted that I have not when not in 3D mode. Just a heads up in case you get issues.

I WAS thinking of getting this quad, and its still a decent package, its got some good internals, but things I've been hearing, from what reviewer to another, such as things like, poor cheap frame, fragile, shoddy soldering, crap receiver, a paGOda antenna that performs poorly than other pagoda antenna's, top frame that's brittle, side covers that are also brittle, its propellers are inefficient and show stress marks within a few minutes while eating up battery, the so called 1500mah lipo they give you may or may not be a 1500 or the actual "c" rating, cool LED's (which I like) but added an entire board just to power them, what else did I miss. I thought the point of RTF was so you could get into and start flying without doing much. A tweak here and there and you're ready to go. Save some money and time. But instead, they give your the frustration and show that they cut corners to give you a so so product. I still think there are some good parts internally, but there seems to be so many small issues that you end up spending money on replacing all the cheap poor parts, you might as well just used that money and bought a better quad to begin with.

I might pick one up later in the future then should they fix all of the issues related to some of the problems associated with the X220s. Given the investment to replace them on my own at the time, It only left me a few bucks from picking up a GT2 2017 Crusader. Which fit and finish are top notch with premium pieces. As far as most the reviews have been saying. Or as Joshua B. said, "The difference between the two are ridiculous". I think by that time I decide to do so, I'll probably start experimenting with building my own.
