We may be in the Golden Age of knives. This appears to be well made with a fantastic price point even with the supply chain problems we are experiencing. In January I would never have purchased a knife from China but by February I came upon Beez Blade and was introduced to modern knives...WOW did that change my opinion!! Politics and prejudices aside, there are some fantastic blades coming out of China.

Yeah they have some great stuff, WE/Aritsan/Reate/Bestech/QSP/Maxace/Rike all make knives as good as any company. Then you have companies like this that produce amazing budget knives.

Eafengrow, Firebird, Freetiger, NemoKnives, Sanrenmu / SRM, Trivisa, Land, Shooziz and many more - they definitely stepped up the game...

The tech boom has leveled the playing field. If we were talking hand forged then speculation on whereabouts would be merited. But with cyborg precision and regulation I don't really think where it's from matters any more. It's all about preference of shape and price. Let the golden age rock on!

I wish they did it without the finger choil. Aesthetically it looks better without it. Functionally I wouldn't want it with the guard there.

More of the original Japanese tanto design. As mentioned in my vid, it isn't the Americanized tanto chisel point most associate with "tanto." Do a web search for "Japanese Tanto knife," and see what hits you get for images. 👊🗡️👍

I'm willing to give Eafengrow a shot based on your review. Honestly, I did write them off because of the blade steel fiasco a few years back. The EF-123 Tanto fixed blade is stunning. Great review.
@chronovore37262 жыл бұрын
The blade steel fiasco is ongoing. They are a rebranding distributor. Sometimes, they get decent stuff. Most of the time, they don't. They keep stamping whatever they think will sell on the blade.
@OGBladeReviews2 жыл бұрын
I don't plan on buying very many if any more of their blades, but in hand regardless of the steel this is a compelling knife, although I've since been told that it is a copy of a Japanese branded Sakai knife. One day it may be worth it to have it tested for steel integrity..
@chronovore37262 жыл бұрын
@@OGBladeReviews Maybe you could have LTK send it out for XRF testing. He has done that for other people in the past.

This is copy of G Sakai Sabi5 knife but using better steel. SABI5 is design for fishing especially fishing in the sea, they use H1 steel has very good corrosion resistance, and that hole for finger is using for handling the fish. But its price is more than twice of ef123.

This has been on my list since seeing it on your channel and I finally ordered it...I can echo everything you have said. Wonderfully made and not a fault! It was hard deciding which color to get and went with the black...don't see a reason not to go ahead and get the jade also. While shopping I also threw in the EF124 and I am also very pleased with it.

eafongrow seems to quickly becoming a value king, bought a 3in d2 Eafengrow EF121 for my pistol belt, absolutely wonderful. Tough, deadly and looks great, for a tactical belt knife with decent tool steel for $30! most comparable knives in the size for the same application at upwards of $100, im am very happy

Last comment . I found 2 WE 600 series knives for a good price so I grabbed them even tho they r 5 years old they re still super nice and light . The WE 611 and 603. 3.75” blades @ 5 oz weight feels strange to me but man these WE titaniums feel great in the hand .

It pisses me off because there are a ton of cheapo knives that look really attractive even more so than a lot of the name brands knives. This knife of course being a fine example. This blade shape in particular being one of my favorite.

Don't trust Eafengrow. They are a rebranding distributor that prints whatever they think will sell on the blade. Occasionally, the stamp matches. Most of the time, it doesn't. Think of it this way. Have you ever seen this much 14C28N in a knife for this price? Compare it to something like the Ruike Jager. Despite being a very competitively priced fixed blade in 14C28N, the Jager costs twice as much.

What a sweet deal on that thing!! They used 14C28N as well. That’s awesome. Almost looks like a straight back since it doesn’t have a secondary tip. Very belly-ish Tanto that is very gradual.
@OGBladeReviews2 жыл бұрын
Yep this is how Tanto's used to look prior to the the Americanization of them in the '80s by Cold Steel.

They have a version called the ef107 which i think is what the Tops El Pionero should've been. You should check it out. The ef109nhas near perfect ergos too but i hate the weight the cut out.

I take these knives for what they are, beater blades. I dont trust whats printed on the blades ax far as steel. Theres no way to make these at such a low price point. If only us nornal folks had access to XLR testing equipment to see if the steel is real.

The sheath is worth the price. Thanks!
@Obliticus2 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. Last Eafengrow fixed blade I got, the kydex was nearly paper thin and so flexible that it could not retain the knife with any degree of certainty. The knife itself wasnt bad, especially for the price, but the sheath is worthless. In fact, it's so bad at retaining the knife that at one point, the blade came free on its own and as I grabbed it to prevent it from hitting a concrete floor, it gave me a nice 2 stitch slice on my pinky. Until I get a real sheath made for it, its staying in the box..
@OGBladeReviews2 жыл бұрын
I've seen a lot of Kydex sheaths of all price levels and this is a thick and well made sheath which surprised the heck out of me. However I'm not doubting that you have run into some junk ones in the past.

Traditional Japanese tanto. Not the chisel pointed Cold Steel inspired variety. Check this link: siamblades.com/products/japanese-nihonto-tanto I'm also noting that the Eafengrow has an oval Tsuba-styled guard.

I don't think you could do any better for the price. Great review 👍
@mikeborrelli193 Жыл бұрын
This would be a 100% better knife without the the useless finger choil that not only ruins the aesthetics, but also reduces leverage by moving the cutting surface to more an inch away from the guard.. A lose lose situation in my book.. ditch that finger choil and this becomes a very very nice knife for $35
The LAST thing I need is another knife, but I couldn’t resist ordering after watching your review. I have some fancy Japanese knives but they’re a little too nice for me to actually put to hard work. This one I can put to work and not worry about it. Sheath looks wonderful, too. I just wish it was lighter.
