Thank you very much Richard, much appreciated. The voice of experience, brilliant ! Speaking for myself, the curve to learning and eventually mastering programming the Eaganmatrix is exacerbated by the use of different terminology compared to terminology used in "traditional" subtractive synthesis. Of course this is unavoidable as the Eaganmatrix is trying to do so much, programming it must be approached from a completely different angle. Your videos are extremely helpful to lower that barrier.

Great tutorial! The pace / information density is just right. After only half an hour the arcane mysteries of the initially intimidating EaganMatrix have been transformed into clear understanding!

Thanks, Richard! As a synth "enthusiast" interested in the Osmose but without much of any Eagen/Haken/Continuum background knowledge, this video gives a good introduction to what creating a patch from scratch might be like.

Hi Richard. These video tutorials are really helpful - thank you! I have an Osmose and there is an Eagan Matrix patch titled “wow soul chords” that plays a whole step lower than concert pitch. I’m perusing the patch in the Max/Eagan Matrix software but am unable to find the parameter to transpose the patch to concert pitch and save in the user patches. Any suggestions?
@eaganmatrixprogramming Жыл бұрын
Sorry. I don''t have access to look at this now but you can always transpose any preset in the editor using the middle C indicator in the surface display. Move it up to transpose down your desired interval, or move it down to transpose up.

Ah! That is the solution - thank you! Should have been obvious to me, but I’m still just getting started with all this.

Wouldn't be possible to release blocks of programming parts of a sound and give the ability to load them in the EaganMatrix software, if it hasn't got that ability already, to form a preset. Like various blocks for the basic, or not sounds, blocks for the axis, and the effects. So an user could load them up to create a base sound to edit maybe even further. Also, how hard is it to edit presets in the EaganMatrix software, instead of using only the macro on the Osmose? Last question, sorry. Can you download the EaganMatrix software and test it connected to a soft synth. Thank you.
@eaganmatrixprogramming2 ай бұрын
No. The preset is a special Midi file. There is no way to create it from some set of separate external building blocks other than building them up through the editor. A totally new editor would have to be created to do something like this and there is no plan in that area I am aware of. But the upcoming Overlay function will let you create presets using a building block like methodology (if the overlay developer creates that sort of design supporting that). But the preset itself still is the same .mid structure. And no - the editor can only work connected to an Osmose (or Continuum-based instrument). Finally, you don't edit presets using macro controls (that only changes parameter values). How difficult it is to create EaganMatrix programs depends on your knowledge of sound design and desire to learn the EaganMatrix. You can look at many videos here on how to program it.

Important: I noticed at 21.35, the video was cut off and resumed with something changed behind the scenes, no idea what (on top of a small change that you can see W was 0.05 before and now 0.061). Problem is that when I continue your tutorial from then on and adjust the C Formula with Y setting instructions you give and then press the Osmose keys on my synth to hear back the result (like you do at 22.00), the result of the sound is not the same on my side. The aftertouch Y takes my sound from one pitch to another. Do you remember if you changed something else at that cut off part in the video? Thank you.
@ConstantinPhillipou Жыл бұрын
I found the issue: I see you quickly changed the scaling of C to a multiplier at 21.45 - quick subtle change.
@eaganmatrixprogramming Жыл бұрын
Yes I simply adjusted the width of the vibrato a slight bit. This doesn't change the basic sound in any other way

Thank you for your very detailed video! There's something I can't figure out: Is the EaganMatrix only an editor and programmer of the internal engine of the Osmose? Or can you use Osmose as a midi keyboard controlling the EaganMatrix inside your computer? Is there a VST version of the EaganMatrix? I would like to use the Osmose in a complex live setup using Ableton with multiple layers of sounds, live looping, etc. For this, I need to have the sound generated on my computer and not in the Osmose I'm really struggling finding the answer, any help would be nice!
@eaganmatrixprogramming Жыл бұрын
It's only an editor that connects to the Osmose (or Continuum) and changes the sound on the Osmose. You can not run it as a plugin to create sounds on your computer directly.
@damien4364 Жыл бұрын
@@eaganmatrixprogramming that’s unfortunate because I would really like to push it further. I know I can route midi to Ableton and then resend it to Osmose in order to have midi looping, quantization, octave pitch etc. But I would really like to loop several presets at the same time without using audio looping. Do you know if there’s any way of doing this without keyboard split? Like being able to have one preset in a loop while playing with another one on the full keyboard. Anyway, thank you for your answer! It already helps me a lot!
@eaganmatrixprogramming Жыл бұрын
@@damien4364 All you might do is set a Combination preset on a split with one preset above and the other below the split. You can't play multiple presets other than split.

Hello Richard. I just fired up the Haken Editor here for the first time with my Osmose, and I'm wondering where/how do I obtain this bank/group of 16 demo sounds? Should they load when I click Group -> Demo Assortment 1-16 (or is that like a "shuffle" function if I already have a group file loaded? Thanks for the videos - total noob here but I'll learn quickly. :)
@eaganmatrixprogramming Жыл бұрын
That's an option in the group icon but Osmose does not use a default user preset group like continuum does. This is for continuum only I think. You can try loading and see what happens, but you can always crate your own group of 16 user presets to load - see Continuum Manual. Osmose has its own demo category group option I think on the Osmose.

Thank you for all your effort. This is very helpful. I have one question. I tried to follow the user tutorial that comes with the editor. However, when I load the tutorial patch "Simple FM Tutorial.mid" the EaganMatrix disappears and the sound cannot be played from the Osmose. In the Max Console it states: cc109 27 syncFail. Do you know how this can be solved? PS: The Osmose is still connected and changing a preset on the Osmose will load the Osmose preset into the AeganMatrix editor. Also, if I save a preset from the Osmose to disk and load that midi file, everything works fine. So there is something specific in the tutorial file that generates a problem, which is strange, since it is a tutorial file. It should not have anything specific.
@eaganmatrixprogramming8 ай бұрын
I think there are issues with some versions of that file. Where did you get it? Are you in the Facebook Osmose users group. The file is in the Files section there and works fine.
@eaganmatrixprogramming8 ай бұрын
And if you don't have access to the Facebook group open up a Haken Audio ticket and someone can email it to you.

@@eaganmatrixprogramming Thank you for your swift answer. Unfortunately I am not on facebook, but thanks anyway. I downloaded it with the Haken Editor according to the directions of Expresive EE when I got the Osmose. I feared that these files could only be used with Haken Fingerboards. But if I understand you correctly, that is not the case.😀

Thank you, this was very interesting. I remain confused about only one small thing: where does the value for W actually come from? It's used in the formulae and it can be included on the direct matrix rows, but I don't quite understand its origin (unlike X, Y and Z, which are clearly coming from the control surface itself).
@eaganmatrixprogramming Жыл бұрын
W is a combination of things. When you use the standard W formula in the matrix "W" it is just a gate on when you press the key and goes 0 to 1 instantly. W in the formula section can be a gate imposed though addition or multiplication (whatever you set your formula to) with X, Y and Z or it can be a constant you add or multiply or you can use it to set shape generator or impose your macro controller on it or set it as a scaling factor in a couple ways. So it in essence can control the formula or offset it. There are other videos on the site that go into those kind of details.
@macronencer Жыл бұрын
@@eaganmatrixprogramming That does help, thank you! Obviously I need to read the manual at some point. I'll probably wait until I have an instrument that uses the matrix though - otherwise I'll probably forget a lot of the info again before I get a chance to use it :)

When I try to save the preset, I am asked to pay for a max subscription, but I saw previously that Osmose owners needn't pay for Max. Please advise?
@eaganmatrixprogramming10 ай бұрын
You don't have to pay to just use the demo version for editor only use. I assume you are saving the preset in the editor not trying to save something in MAX itself. You have to pay to try and create and save MAX programs in MAX.
