Saw something similar to this at the Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio. Birds keep flying into the eagle enclosure and checking the bottom for any food. Well one robin bird spent too much time in there and the eagle was extremely quick. It was a few seconds of bird screeching then silence. The eagle was quick to de-feathering it’s meal and whole heartedly enjoyed it.

I've seen crows do this with bread to attract fish. They will move the bread out of the way when a fish that is to big to eat tries to get it but when a small enough fish comes up to eat it it grabs the fish.

Eagles are smart, but hardly even close to the top 10 smartest birds. I think majority of people are way over estimating the eagle by saying it “baited” the heron or whatever it is. The eagle may have been bragging about it’s food or maybe just mocking, but I seriously doubt it “baited” the heron just so it could snatch its neck and then do nothing else because it’s dumbass didn’t think past that. What was it baiting the heron into and what for? To grab it’s neck/head, only to be stopped moments later by, most likely the alpha male eagle, and releasing the bird almost immediately, before cameraman can even capture it.
