I pulled the trigger last May, when business was real good. I’m riding the wave. Things eventually will get better again. Expediters will always be needed. Therefore, it has to become sustainable again, otherwise no one will be able to do it for the companies that need our services.

I get really annoyed when the people making these videos do not mention the DATE. The person making the video certainly knows the current date, but the people WATCHING the video don't know when the video was made. That's VERY IMPORTANT!!! I’ve also heard from many truckers in the past 6 months. If you have a good paying trucking job then don’t even think of buying a truck. Breakdowns can put you out of business if you can’t get a part or a mechanic screws something up and doesn’t take accountability. I think Andre has critical advice as usual.

I'm about to retire from a totally different profession to do expediting. I saved up enough money to buy a sprinter like yours. I don't have family and love driving cross country. I'm leaving my current profession because the 9 to 5 setting and working for somebody else is slowly eating my soul. My plan is to vacate my apartment, live fulltime in the van while doing OTR. I'm at the point of my life where OTR makes the most sense, but now work is slow. I can't win even when advantages are in my favor.

Best informative videos I’ve come across. I know I am a good fit for this type of work. I work in the oilfield and it’s breaking my body down. I’m used to being gone 14-30 days at a time. I sleep in the truck at times and make my own food. My kids are grown and I’m not married and I don’t have a house or apartment payment. My only bills would be van payment and insurance. Can a person make at least $75k a year if they’re on the road 3-4 weeks at a time and off for 10-14 days?

I’m a little concerned. It’s February 1 2024. How is the current market for drivers? As far as work ethic, I’m very competitive, I love to drive all night. In fact I prefer to drive at night. No one will out work me. That is my work ethic. My personal situation is this, I’ll need to gross 2000.00 per week (7 days). Is realistic to expect enough miles to cover? I appreciate your content and honesty. Thank you in advance for your reply.

It's possible but it's not a guarantee that every week you will make 4k. You have to be a beast to do that 1st off and 2nd you need to see what kind of freight they haul if it's specialty loads and how many miles they clear to get that 4k a week. Lots of competition and lots of cheap freight out there now. It's not a reality to have those type of weeks consistently weekly in today's market.

I have the money to buy a van flat out, I have enough to buy whatever I want, I can also pay at least a year upfront for any insurance and whatever else. I drove a 23 ft flatbed delivering to major construction sites like rams stadium, Gerald DesMond bridge in Long Beach, CA, delivered to the Long Beach/Los Angeles ports, high rises in LA, did many pick ups at various venders/warehouses etc.. I have a class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsement, have a TWIC card, no points on license at all 100% clean record, nothing else on my record. I was planning to get into this business, I am independent, can think for myself, I have no wife or kids so being away from home for a week or two or more is not a problem. However watching this video I am thinking twice about doing this, I inherited a few bucks, not a ton of money but enough to invest into something like this but I don't want to invest into something that is going to turn out bad. Is it a bad idea to invest into this even with my experience? I've done quite a bit of extensive research into this over the last several months, I have a very big amount of Brokers, carriers/dispatch and load boards I have found and saved, I also have quite a few apps I found as well so I feel I am ready but I am not so sure after what you are saying. I am also a very cautious person who takes his time doing stuff like this, I like to learn everything I can before I go jumping into it as I've been doing for several months. You say I don't need a MC or DOT number but actually many Brokers and carriers I found require this and if you don't have it they will not work with you, I'd rather not get this but if it means more work then I'm getting it but maybe you know something I don't. Sorry for saying so much, I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing before I go spending 40,000 or more on a cargo van and how ever much else I will need to spend for anything else I will need.
@Eagle-Xpress
@Eagle-Xpress 9 ай бұрын
If you're going to be leased onto a carrier or broker and get loads through them u don't need MC and DOT. But if you're planning to load yourself through all the little platforms you mentioned then you do need it. But to obtain and keep an mc and DOT number you need to have a log book unit which is above 10k gvw and sprinter van does not qualify for that. You will need at least 1 big truck for this to be able to keep your MC and DOT filings.
@johnritter7069
@johnritter7069 9 ай бұрын
@@Eagle-Xpress Would I still need the MC/DOT if I stayed within my state and just worked off apps? Not sure if working off apps is any good but I thought maybe do this to start off to get the feel of how this all works. What's the chances of this working out, is this a bad time or would it still be fairly decent for someone who at least has some experience in the driving/delivery part anyway. Is it that bad out there or is there still plenty of loads? Can you work with multiple carriers or when you are "leased" to a carrier are you loyal to that one carrier? I'm not familiar with the term being leased, is that like being employed by a carrier?

You can't live off of credit but you'll be able to live off that cash if things go bad for you in the next few months. Unless your credit is super bad don't do that.
