that's because in the start, its just an ordinary performance of a courtesan in front of the king, but she starts singing about her love for the King's son. The king is against his son marrying a commoner. She's literally singing "If you love someone, then why fear anyone?" which angers the king. The king becomes sad in the end when she sings "if there is no barrier (she mentions a curtain which symbolizes a barrier) with the God himself, why have a barrier among ourselves". Highly recommend you to watch this spectacle. It's truly marvelous.
