Very posh English accent, Poldark, he didn't pick that up in Finglas. Now, his spoken voice in the interview is genuine, so fair enough.

He's more well known for being Bono's friend and he's every bit as pretentious.

I don't think Gavin was well to do .. he was brought up on the "Catholic" end of Cedarwood
@pmacc3557 Жыл бұрын
@@scottblack9213 oh was Cedarwood a mostly Protestant area? In fairness though, you can't just rock up to D4 on a Friday night unless you got connections or cash or both
@scottblack9213 Жыл бұрын
@@pmacc3557 apparently the cul de sac was the Catholic end where Gavin was and the main area up by the shops was were as Gav said "the prods" were - Bono Gugai etc. Gavin was definitely not from a well to do family - his father was a painter and decorator... I would put it this way, a lot of Northside families were very house proud and grafted hard, so from the outside looking in, they had a few quid, but in actual fact they more then likely had a father who grafted six days a week and put all the money into the family - they had a "comfortable" semi detached life, like many people in the U.K and Ireland but by no means wealthy - Gavin could buy records and stuff like that, maybe go across to London to see gigs, but was most definitely a Northside Suburban Dub - kind of like Brett Anderson was in Haywards Heath - a suburban "weird kid" Enough money to buy records and go to gigs, interested in Arts, but definitely "working class made good"

A lot of the responses here appear to be from a certain type that would not get anything that is a bit different. Could be a generational thing. Let`s be honest here, this 21st century has proven a bit dumbed down when it comes to creativity. Poor kids!

Dumbed down

It was the 21st century that gave us the album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the TV series The Wire, the movie Parasite, the videogame Dark Souls. It's not all dumbed down for this generation when it comes to the arts, besides didn't adults in the 80s say the same thing?

At least if we ever lose Bono we have a spare. Brothers from another mother. In fairness the Prunes were genuine Punks, Bono just pretends to be a Punk. Then again he pretends to be a lot of things. Am I begrudger ??
