@@jayv6315 dont think too much. the goal is to grasp and feel the intervals. so in future u ll hv a better note choice. the ultimate goal isn't to identify every single note accurately. in my opinion it should be used to feel the music better. while improvising you will be playing the notes which is in your head.

The first time I did this it was kinda hard but the second time around I did something different. The key (pun intended) is to know what C sounds like (since it's the base note or Do), then once a new note is played go back to C (hum or sing) and see how far the new note is from C and that'll tell you what's the new note. The most important note to know is C, all the other notes are related to it.

If I say the letter that instantly comes to mind the moment I hear it (without thinking), I get it right. If I spend more than a second thinking, then it becomes more of an 80% chance where I'm off by a semitone. I think that we hear these tones all the time and we already defined the tone subconsciously, and so part of getting it right requires some internal confidence.

This is exactly what I was looking for. A video to show me how bad I am at recognising a key. Also it shows piano keys, which is useful for French people who have no clue about the letter system. Come to think of it, I should have probably searched for a french title, but content is usually much better in English because there is a lot more choice

To get better at this REALLY practice doing and listening to a C scale, especially the arpeggio. An arpeggio is the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and then back to the first of a scale. Just play these on a piano and try to get familiar with the intervals. If you are able to hum along to a scale you will get better with the the progression. Oh and one more thing... You're doing great :)

Think of this scale in solfage. C is your Do, D is your Re, E is your Mi, F is your Fa, G is your Sol, A is your la, B is your ti, and back to C is your Do an octave about. If you sing the Do solfage in order starting on C and training yourself how to hear each note differently, it geta way easier and you can figure out what note was played .

I don’t know if this helps, but this is how i figure out the notes - by listening to their function in the C major scale rather then the intervalls between the notes. C: Feels like home. D: Is the note before C, wants to resolve to the C. E: Wants to resolve to the C, everytime there is an E I sing E-D-C or 3-2-1 in my head. F: The subdominant, want’s to go up to the dominant (G) and then home (C), F-G-C or 4-5-1. how is that a C played at about 1:59? I'm confused, because the original C played at the beginning is much lower. Is this C just an octave higher??

So for those that struggled with this, the trick to remembering which intervals are which is by remembering them in songs (I.e., the first two notes in “Somewhere over the rainbow” have an octave relationship) and then relate every tone you hear back to the tonic
