Found this out yesterday as well. In addition, setting to passthrough reduces the delay which causes sound to be delayed from the video on screen. Found this out testing call of duty on PS5

Great tip of using the TV as the hub via eARC to avoid upgrading the AV Processor with each technology change. Likewise I’ve done something similar but in my case upgrade is now needed - good to know that I can focus on eARC support as a main criteria.

Yup! It's kind of a game changer as we can keep our AVRs just a "little bit" longer when tech changes. Like, I can upgrade my TV and not be 'required' to upgrade my AVR.

Ah man, thanks so much for this video! I've been putting off buying a 4K TV for years because it just seemed wrong that it meant replacing my 10+ years-old but perfectly fine Denon AVR-3808ci receiver. I consulted the "experts" from Best Buy, PC Richards, and a local Home AV to give advice on exactly this subject, and they just said I'd have to buy a new AVR from them. When I told them I wanted them to first try hooking up all my devices to the TV and then send the audio to the AVR, the look they gave me said it all. So I never hired any of them, and decided I'd just have trudge through it on my own. Just yesterday I finally ordered an 2019 LG C9 from Amazon (I decided against the newer 2020 CX model because of the DTS downgrade, and also because they couldn't guarantee delivery for at least 3 weeks, ha) So when it arrives, I'll be following your advice step-by-step! 👣

Hi dowmck! I had that same AVR!! I sold it in 2016. I am pretty sure it doesn’t support ARC. You should be able to pipe the audio from the TV via Optical to the AVR.

For the DTS issue with the LG CX couldn’t one connect their DTSX capable br player to their DTSX capable AV receiver to get DTSX sound? Why would one need eARC to do the decoding. Same thing with streaming. If your br player has built in apps and movie is streaming with DTSX sound just use the br player app rather than the app on the TV.

The problem with plugging sources into TV is when Sources and Amp are over the other side of the room. And AVRs have all this video switching built in so it really should be usable IMO. Its about time this industry did more Interop testing. Its a minefield. Tks for the informative Vid.

I recently bought a LG G1. Mainly for the 120 hz and VRR. I have Denon 4400. I cant use the receiver inputs because it doesn't support 2.1 HDMI. I'm able to use the TV eARC run sound to the receiver. There was a firmware update that added eARC to the receiver. It didn't work instantly. I had unplug and plug cables. And unplug and plug power to the receiver to get it working.

I had to laugh at the purchase of earc cables, I've now got four. (Update) It's amazing how going to the movie disc audio menu and selecting Dolby Atmos from the menu works.

Great video and it is making me think about my set up I am about to install, LG C9 and denon avr-x3600h. I was considering the eARC option. As the denon does not support HDMI 2.1, connecting a PS5 to the denon I guess does not make sense. Based on this video I could connect it to the LG (as it has HDMI 2.1) and use the eARC back to the denon. Does it matter that the Denon is not HDMI 2.1? Do I loose anything with this set-up? I would still have most other sources connected directly to the amp i.e. Sat...

Hello TD, your sum up comment at about 12:45 is the way I run my small system. TCL s525 ARC out to Sony avr. Xbox ethernet and cable TV direct to the TV. This set up turns on the avr as well just like a trigger switch. I figured most do not do this for cable routing purposes. OH the Sony is older DH520 and I have the HDMI set at 2.2...works great with no complaint here. Speakers are focal 936. Nice vid and thanks.

@MalteW it didn’t work for for me until I followed the sound prompts either. When you change the settings to pass through and eArc, it should work. Be sure to also make sure that you have high speed cables running between the tv and the bar as well. I’m running Audioquest Cinnamon for my connection and it works like a charm. The cable is even an older one (5 years) and it shows Atmos with no issues. Stream a newer movie like Endgame or Black Panther and you should see it every time

Nice work ! Just one of those SMALL details(s) not everyone will specify or aware about… Now let’s hope my Denon (AVR X2300) stop turning on and off instantly while showing a blinking WHITE light, NOT RED… does an instant reset/restart. Hopefully this helps my situation. FYI- I currently RE-wired my entire system with banana plugs in addition to adding the Panamax 5300 surge.

The new DENONS with the single 8K HDMI input do not fully comply with the HDMI 2.1 specifications and should not really be considered a HDMI 2.1 device. Notice on their own website it doesn't say anywhere in the specs about it being a HDMI 2.1 AVR. One of the main shortcomings for example is that it is not 48gbps, but rather 40gbps.

Another great video, I think most people connect their devices to the AVR or pre/pro because they typically have more connections that the TV, also its much neater for your cables runs. I will just wait for when we get all HDMI connections with the 2.1 support.
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and that’s how I have everything connected. When you decide to upgrade your TV, you are not required now to upgrade your AVR thanks to eARC. If your current AVR doesn’t support new features of HDMI 2.1, you can connect directly to the newer TV and use eARC to send uncompressed audio to the AVR. You can keep you AVR a little bit longer. Man, I should have made this more clear...
@DTA_Crypto

@@TechnoDad Oh no you made it very clear I understand what you were saying. I use to have everything connected to my tv then ran a HDMI cable to the receiver. But that was when I had just 2 devices, but now I have at least 6 connected devices, and most TVs just come with 2-4 HDMI connections. I see your point of if you dont have the current 2.1 for both consoles just connected those consoles to the newer tv and the rest on your AVR. I am just old school wanting all my devices connected to my Processor, That is why I will wait for a new AVM60 wth all its HDMI ports 2.2 hopefully. But like I said before most games won't be developed to run on those new consoles at 120hz at 4k just 60 if we're lucky lol

I think I really messed up. I bought a Denon receiver, a new LG OLED TV, and a Sonos soundbar. Really the only reason I bought a receiver is that I have so many media devices, I didn’t want to have to plug and unplug cables into my TV every time I wanted to watch something on a different device. Now I can’t figure out how to get sound out to my soundbar, but video out from my receiver into my tv. I got the setup to get both audio and video to my TV, but can’t connect to the soundbar. I’m worried I’ll just have to directly connect my soundbar as an audio out from whichever device I’m using which defeats the purpose of having the receiver. Is this not a thing that people do? I just assumed it would all work, whoops…

Dude, have (almost) same setup as you - I have an OLED LG TV (C1 lineup) and a Denon S650H and have been tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to get them to work. I eventually got the sound to work but it keeps dropping - I am betting once I get the TV to send it in eARC mode (need to set to passthrough) then all of these dropped sound issues will disappear, but time will tell. I'll report back. Thank you for the video!

@@TechnoDad I found out my problem was the HDMI cable - a Reddit user said to buy one of the expensive Zeskit ones - though pricey, it was worth it - since I connected it, I have had no drops at all On your point though - I did set it to pass through but my signal still reverts to Dolby Digital Plus whenever I turn on any streaming service (HBO Max, Disney +, Netflix, etc.) - either way, it’s been working well so far so that part doesn’t concern me anymore

Well I tried this eARC thingy. First, Dolby Atmos does not go through ARC in any case (only the TrueHD core does) because of bandwith. And if your TV does not decode DTS:X (hello LG CX) then you're out of options to read that. Plus, you have a freaking audio delay that is impossible to compensate (I've tried many things). So goodbye eARC, at least you tried.

Thanks for this video. I just got a Denon X6700H to use with my Apple 4K TV and PS4 Pro, that are connected to my LG CX. I lucked out and got a PS5 pre order in. So that will be swapped in when it comes out. Currently I have those 2 sources going through the Denon. But it can be finicky at times with switching or recognizing one of the sources for some reason. So now I'm thinking maybe I should use the LG CX as the switcher instead to handle things better. It's nice to have choices.

I hooked up my externals (4K Fire Stick, PS3, Tivo Premium X) to my LG C1 and run all audio through my older Pioneer VSX-33 receiver. But I'm still confused: I take it the oled tv can send eARC; can my older receiver receive it? Or do I need a newer receiver? As far as I know, the receiver has DTS and THX at best. As an aside, I now find the oled struggling and jittering with all the externals hooked up to it directly.

Sony no 7.1.4...muh LG SN11RG..gave me 7.1.4. playing Dolby bluray test disk.. none of the other soundbars came close ..and to be honest no need for separate speakers in the ceiling anymore or wires running to the rears... I know you guys are going to say there's no substitute for speakers in the ceiling.. and I agree with you.. but this is so close in my opinion it doesn't matter... Unless of course you don't mind drilling holes in your ceiling and running wires.. and constantly having to buy a new receiver to keep up with yr latest needs.. as the video here says..run yr inputs to the tv..n then yr sound to the external audio equipment via eARC.... Seriously guys before you consider a full set up go listen to this soundbar... It just works seemlessly... No I don't work for LG...lol

@@n25992 for the new consoles that take advantage of hdmi 2.1, it seems better to direct connect to the tv (at least right now).
