"Of all the saws I ever saw, I never saw a saw that could saw like the saw I saw in Warsaw" - exclaimed the carpenter from SANDO (SAN FERNANDO, TRINIDAD), gleefully on returning from a world tour! Earl Rodney - selfless, “fretless” bass guitarist from Guapo Village, Point Fortin, Trinidad and Tobago - won three National Panorama Competitions with (then) Solo Harmonites - 1968 (The Wrecker), 1971 (Play Mas), and 1972 (St. Thomas Girl). Rodney was simultaneously arranger/band leader for The Mighty Sparrow's Troubadours in the late sixties/early seventies. The musicians were so intertwined and versatile that they frequently accepted spontaneous, impromptu audience requests during live concert performances. I kid you not, for proof resides in the SANCH archives.
